How we managed to manage 89.000+ mailboxes (so far) Everybody who has worked in IT sometimes dream of how platforms such as GMail or Hotmail are made and managed. While not nearly as big as those, at JouwWeb we currently manage 89.000+ mailboxes which haven't been exempted from challenges and, to be honest, our fair share of failures as well. Do you feel like you can handle everyone at GEWIS when it comes to mathematics? Or do you just feel like solving some hard Math exercises? Then you should come to the mathematics competition on Saturday 17th of June. We from GEBEP have established a set of challenging mathematical questions which you can tackle in groups of three. To assure you will not feel hungry during the competition, we will start with lunch. This means you and your teammates will be able to focus on the exercises that will follow afterwards. To round off, we will have a small drink together. Here, the winner of the competition will be announced. Of course, we have arranged some prices! At most 70 people can sign up. The minutes from GMM 138, 145, and 150 have to be reapproved.An update will be given by AVW191,An update will be given by our Career Development Officer,We will vote on adopting decisions regarding non-platonic relations within the board and committees of GEWIS,A revision on the sponsor update will be presented,The treasurer of the 41st board will present a change to the Internal Regulations regarding financial matters, as a result of AVW185. There will be a vote about this change to the IR,Lastly, we will discuss the budget of GEWIS for the year 2023-2024. There will be a vote about this budget. Dear GEWIS members, On June 13th in the afternoon, it will be time to break stuff and get all of the rage out you have built up during the entire academic year. Défi is there to help you! We will provide you with stuff to break, but of course you may also bring your own broken chair, old tv, whatever (all items are from second-hand stores who rejected them because they weren’t good enough to sell anymore or already a bit broken)! Enough safety measurements will be taken to make sure nobody gets hurt. The most introvert person can turn completely wild during this activity! Make sure to find another member to subscribe with, so we can make a planning of groups of 4. Each group will have some time to break and smack items (this will not take the entire afternoon, a maximum of 30 minutes per group including the buildup of your room). Be aware, if the subscriptions fill up, the activity is first come, first serve! The actual end time of the activity is now set at 19 o'clock, but might be a bit earlier/later depending on the amount of people subscribing. When subscribing, for each of the timeslots say whether it is your first, second or third preference, based on this we will make a planning! Join Défi on the 13th to let out all of your rage!

Dear GEWIS members, For the past two years, Défi has been visiting Amsterdam Pride with GEWIS. We had so much fun with you, that we are inviting you to participate in Eindhoven Pride Walk. On June 10th, we will gather in the centrum to start the walk at 14:30. The walk is expected to last for 1.5 hours and after that, there will be a party! Once in a while, we all need to escape our tiny student rooms and make sure to get those muscles moving. To help you, we again have organized a weekend full of activities. Join us at a campsite near Dinant, in Belgium! Enjoy the free 'streaming' service (a.k.a. the river) by day and the (live!) campfire by night, of course with plenty of drinks and BBQ.

To get some action, we will take you to some great activities in the neighborhood. In particular, on Saturday we will combine a climbing activity with canoeing. To accommodate for different levels of fitness/laziness/love for climbing, we offer two different climbing trails: easy (2,5h) and intermediate (3h), so please indicate your preference.

Of course, this is an all-inclusive weekend! We will spend the night camping in tents, below you can indicate whether you have a tent and for how many people (including yourself). If you don't have a tent, don't worry, just contact one of the people who have indicated that they have a tent (we will not make tent groups). We may also create a WhatsApp group for everyone joining the weekend to ease communication. Soda, beers, and some coffee for those who cannot live without their daily rate will be taken care of, as well as plenty of Sako's pasta salad on Friday and a BBQ on Saturday.

As it is a long walk to Dinant, we are also looking for cars so we can take everyone. Please indicate below whether you have a vehicle available and how many people you can take (including yourself).

We are planning on taking 52 people with us for the weekend, so don't hesitate to subscribe before the list is full! In case the list is full before Monday, April 3rd at 12am, there will be a draw among those who subscribed. Otherwise it is first come first serve. To make sure we have enough cars, people who can arrange one will have priority if needed.

The Delft-Eindhoven-Twente day (DET-day) is a day focused on the integration of members of the study associations Abacus and Inter-Actief from Enschede, Christiaan Huygens from Deltf, and GEWIS from Eindhoven. After the huge success in the revival of the Delft-Eindhoven-Twente day (DET-day) last year, the tradition of organizing the DET-day will this year be continued by GEWIS, and will thus take place in Eindhoven.

The day will be all about discovering the TU/e campus and getting to know the amazing people from other associations. It includes a campus tour, a worstenbrood-lunch, a pub quiz in Hubble Community Café, a high-end friet-table, and a social drink in GEWIS' own 't Dakterras.

Sadly, Deltf is not able to join us this year for the DET-day, so it will, just like last year, take place in the form of an ET-day. The day will take place on June 8 and will include a unique overnight stay on the TU/e campus (for non-GEWIS participants). More concrete information about the day and the schedule of the day will be provided later, but the plan, for now, is to have the official opening around 11:00 in the morning.

How math is used to meet customers agreements while reducing the total cost

ASML lithography systems are used to produce microchips with nanometer accuracy. Due to a rapidly growing demand for chips, it is of high importance to keep these machine up and running as much as possible. A key aspect of this is that needed service actions can be executed when needed. For this, the correct service parts need to be available.

During this lunch lecture it will be explained how mathematics is used to do a proper trade-off between meeting customers agreements and improving the machines up time while reducing the total cost for having spares on stock.

What does it take to visualize the single atoms of the silicon? How to visualize the structure of a protein on the scale which exposes its DNA structure?Why the electron microscopy embraces and embeds the digitalization in a rapid pace?These are just a few questions that we will try to answer during the GEWIS lunch lecture.

Our presenters will introduce the audience to the digital electron microscopy, explaining basics of the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imaging.Then the role of the software, and in general computer science in microscopy will be shown and explained.

Are you tired of constantly losing all your programming competitions? Don't worry, happens to the best of us. But even for someone like you, there is plenty of room for fun to be had! If you want to improve your programming skills, or instead maybe you want to make the lives of other programmers more difficult, then the FYPC is just the activity for you! During the FYPC you will be solving a programming problem set, but there is a twist. Or perhaps we should say Twister? During the competition, you will have to take on various challenges against other teams. These range from racing around on bikes to seeing who is the better dancer in Just Dance. If you manage to win, nothing will happen. If you lose, however, oh boy do we have bad news! There will be various punishments, from your mouse moving to a random coordinate and clicking to... Actually, we do not want to spoil the fun just yet ;). We will provide free lunch during the day and there will also be a "borrel" (social drink) at the end of the competition. So not only is there a ton of fun to be had, but it will also be cheaper than staying at home! Practical information:

The competition is intended for groups of three, you can sign up as a group of two, but groups of three have priority.The competition is intended for the first years. However, you are still allowed to participate as a higher year. When drawing the teams, we will prioritize first-year teams. Furthermore, punishments will be more severe to keep everything fair.The competition will take place on the 27th of May and last somewhere until 18:00 with a social drink afterwards.Only one member of every team has to fill in this formThere is a maximum of 23 teams. The LIMO is a national mathematics competition in which students from universities in The Netherlands and Belgium solve Mathematics problems to become the best team of that year's LIMO. LIMO is an abbreviation for the Dutch phrase "Landelijke Interuniversitaire Mathematische Olympiade" and is organised this year by Abacus, the study association for mathematics in Enschede.

The problems that the participants try to solve are provided by established mathematicians and companies from The Netherlands and Belgium. The time span available for solving these problems is three hours. After these three hours, the exercises are checked by a group of volunteers and the winner is declared. On the day of the LIMO, there is also a campus tour with a nice lunch and the participants close the day with a dinner. The problems are diversified in difficulty, such that not only more experienced mathematics students can show off their mathematics skills, but first- or second year students can contribute something to the competition as well.

Tom Verhoeff, one of the authors of the LIMO, will organize two training sessions with tips and tricks to prepare you for the contest! One training will be on Wednesday the 3rd of May from 19.00 to 21.00 and the other training will be on Tuesday the 16th of May from 19.00 to 21.00. The training will be held in MetaForum 15.

You can (and should) enroll via the website of the LIMO, before the 12th of May in a team of maximum 4 people: LIMO. Note that for students in their third year or higher, there are additional constraints for team formations.

However, if you can not find other team-mates to sign up with, you can subscribe here such that we (GEWIS) can bring you in contact with other interested people to form a team. The trainings can also be used to find a team!

Ze krijgen hoor- en werkcolleges van zowel Wiskunde als Informatica, een tour over de campus en praatjes van verschillende mensen van de faculteit. En niet te vergeten, aan het einde van de lange dag een borrel voor de ouders. Dit alles duurt van ongeveer half 9 tot half 6, net zo lang als een flinke dag van studeren.

Every year, the introduction committee needs intro parents to house all new students. In this form, you will be able to subscribe to the introduction week as a introduction parent with one of your friends!

The introduction week is from 21/08/2023 until 25/08/2023. This means that you HAVE to be available during those times. Next to that, there will also be a training day during the holidays where you need to be present. This day is on the Saturday before the intro week, so 19/08/2023. If you are currently studying, you can be an intro parent!

At the university of technology that TU/e is, we sometimes miss a little creativity and fantasy. Have you always wanted to share your crazy ideas, bring out your figments of imagination, and do you love to be behind a camera and capture fantastic things with it? Then this is your event! People from different FSE photography committees have bundled their powers to set up TU/e’s first photo competition: Picture Perfect! There are 5 separate categories you can choose to submit pictures, namely, people, perspective, nature, architecture, and product. For each category, you are allowed to submit just one photo. Each year, the competition has a theme, which all the photos are encouraged to be connected to somehow. This year, the theme is Fantastic Photography! During this lunch lecture Petrus Bult and Ruben Kwant will tell you what the life of a mathematician at the Mathware department of Sioux Technologies looks like. After giving you a general introduction about Mathware we will tell you about two projects. First Petrus will tell you about a project he did for PhenomWorld. PhenomWorld is a company that makes cutting edge low-cost electron microscopes. These electron microscopes can be used to create high-resolution images of materials and structures. However, their images suffered from an image distortion effect they called ‘flagging’, caused by vibrations in the imaging system. At Mathware, we tackled this challenging problem for PhenomWorld, by creating a solution that significantly reduces flagging and improves image quality. In this talk, we will share the ins and outs of this project, from understanding the problem to delivering impactful results. Secondly Ruben will talk about a project Sioux did for Xyall. Sioux helped Xyall to design a machine which helps with molecular analysis of cancerous tissue. This machine needs to be able to position itself very accurately, and in this project Mathware helped with this problem using automatic alignments, where we used optimization and image analysis to overcome imperfections in the machine. Arrrrr! Het GEZWEM zeilweekend komt er weer aan! Ditmaal zal het zeilweekend in het pittoreske Fryslân plaatsvinden. Als jij zin hebt in een gezellig weekend vol zeilen, gecombineerd met rum en bier drinken, schrijf je dan nu in voor het GEZWEM zeilweekend!

Omdat de OV-reis naar deze locatie niet ideaal is, proberen wij alle deelnemers via de auto te kunnen laten reizen. Mocht je een auto kunnen regelen, graag aangeven in het inschrijfformulier.

Ze krijgen hoor- en werkcolleges van zowel Wiskunde als Informatica, een tour over de campus en praatjes van verschillende mensen van de faculteit. En niet te vergeten, aan het einde van de lange dag een borrel voor de ouders. Dit alles duurt van ongeveer half 9 tot half 6, net zo lang als een flinke dag van studeren.

Do you want to join our Foosball Tournament? After the exams, it is time again to chill at GEWIS and play some table football. GESPORT thought, let's make a tournament out of this! It's easy to subscribe, first come, first serve, a small paper at the GEWIS foosball table. Write down your team name (2 persons per team), e-mail address and phone number before the 26th of April. That Wednesday, we will publish the groups and let you know which games should be played in which week. Contact the other team via e-mail or phone number displayed on the list and let the committee know your score!

After the group phase, the first two teams will proceed to the knockout stage. The finals will be played in the week of the 12th of June. Then we will have a winner before the end of the year!

Are you also looking forward to better and sunnier weather in coming spring? What better way to start off spring by running the most fun relay race of them all, the Batavierenrace! In the weekend of the 28th till the 30th of April, we from GEWIS will once again travel to Nijmegen to run together a distance of 175km to Enschede, divided into 25 parts, running during the night, in the morning and in the afternoon.

We will sleep in our own tents on the campus of Twente University and every time a new team will go to their starting point to take over the responsibility of the prior team to run GEWIS to the finish. Hopefully, you're looking forward to this relay race just as much as we do (or even more of course)!

We are facing many societal and environmental challenges: the energy transition, climate adaptation, biodiversity collapse, circular economy, and large-scale replacement of infrastructure, to name just a few. These are large, complex, and multidisciplinary problems that involve many stakeholders whose interests often clash. Effectively applying IT allows you to take an integrated and iterative approach and is therefore a requirement to solve these problems. After corona, GELIFT is back again and this time we are going to Paris. We will host a hitchhiking competition where all you will have to do is stick out your thumb, we will provide the rest. We will leave on Saturday and will be back Sunday evening.

On Saturday you will hitchhike from Eindhoven to Paris. Once you arrive there, a hostel will be provided for you. On Sunday you will have the entire day in Paris to go do as you please. At the end of the afternoon we will take the train back to Eindhoven.

For the very low low price of 35 euros you will get:

the necessities for the hitchhiking competition;an overnight stay in Paris;transport back to Eindhoven.

Before the actual weekend, we will provide you with a presentation on how to hitchhike safely. Here we will also provide more general information.

Hello lovely members of GEWIS!

As most of you probably already guessed, the BAC will organize their classic MAVO borrel again on the last Thursday of the exam weeks. These borrels are well known among the older GEWIS members and in case you don't have an exam on Thursday evening or Friday, I would definitely advise you to come visit as well.

Unfortunately, also borrels end, and even more unfortunate, also hangovers can start to form. But no worries, the 41st board has your back! We will provide a delicious hangover breakfast on the day after the MAVO borrel. Try not to be too late as we don't have unlimited amounts of hangover-food;)

As each year, GEWIS organizes the Best Teacher Award. The BTA is an award in which you get to vote for your favourite teacher. This is one of the best ways to give that shout out to the teacher whom presented the topics you have fallen in love with, instructors who helped you grasp those difficult concepts or any other teacher you feel that went above and beyond.

The winner is announced during the employee drink (Thursday 13 April 2023) at GEWIS, they receive an award and are nominated for the TU/e Best Teacher Award. The winner of this award is announced during MomenTUm. Last year, Jim Portegies (from our department) won the TU/e wide prize and he is still in the running for the National Best Teacher Award. How exciting!

He will offer a behind the scenes look on working as a Business Consultant/Devops Engineer in a DevOps Scrum team deployed at the Rabobank Financial Economic Crime area via Ordina. The lecture will include an overview of the diverse IT portfolio of Ordina, a description of the team composition within the specific department, techniques and software frameworks utilized in the working process and will provide a general overview of the development methodology DevOps. Is your bike always broken? Or are you completely done with your expensive Swapfiets subscription and not being able to find your bike? No problem! GEBEUN and Défi present to you: FietsenFixers!

On Wednesday March 29, Défi and GEBEUN are organizing an activity together where you can completely fix up your bike. During the afternoon you can walk by to use the colorful spray paints of Défi to give your bike a new look. In the meantime, GEBEUN will be ready to give various workshops related to fixing bikes. For example, how to fix your tire and how to replace and repair a bike chain. In addition to the workshops, there will be some "special projects" available for the more experienced fixers among us. Next to this, you can indicate what is broken on your bike and GEBEUN will try to arrange the tools and knowledge to fix your bike again!

You can attend this handy activity for free as a first year and older years have to pay only 3 euros. But that is not everything! For only 2 euros extra, you'll receive a goodie bag from us with a tire repair kit and a set of bicycle lights.A maximum of 20 goodie bags are available, if more people are interested, there will be a draw.

Want to know how automotive student teams work? Most importantly, what could you as GEWIS member add to one of these student teams?

Two student teams will give a lunch lecture to show what these teams do and how you can apply your knowledge within these teams. TU/ecomotive and University Racing Eindhoven are two teams which build cars for different purposes. One of them builds a sustainable concept car to challenge the industry and show the world the future possibilities within automotive. The other team builds an electric and autonomous racecar with which they participate in the largest engineering design competition in the world, Formula Student. Both teams will present what a student team is and what their team does specifically. Of course, they will also present the most interesting parts and applications of their cars for GEWIS members. Make sure to join this lunch lecture to get all of your questions about student teams answered!

Are you a freshmen who thinks all the old GEWIS members are boring and should be more playful? Or are you old and get annoyed by all the freshmen acting childish all the time thinking they should just go back to preschool? But deep inside you're just jealous of them still being so young? Source Control in a No-Code platform

Anago is a standard no/low-code cloudplatform for developing smart planning solutions such as operational planning, capacity planning, resource scheduling and strategic personell planning. A planning solution is modelled in Anago without the need of writing code. Data structures are modelled in terms of multi-dimensional data cubes and relations, advanced mathematical models are defined using smart building blocks and an extensive library of functions and end-user screens are defined by adding elements to the screen and defining properties. Over the years, the Anago solutions became larger and more complex. We needed to support multiple developers in the same project and features to support new developments and bug fixing in parallel.

During the lunch lecture we would like to tell you more about our path in connecting our no-code software platform to a distributed version control system such as Git. What do you do when you do not have code, but would like to have the source control features such as branching and merging, rolling back and shelve? What does work and what is not so great?

This lecture is given by Femke Berendsen (Developer, background Mathematics and Econometrics) and Thomas de Nooij (Founder, background Computer Science and Logistic Control Systems).

Suppose it's a Thursday night out and you are having fun with all your friends. Fun! But what if it turns out to be not so fun anymore... are you confident enough in addressing your boundaries? Do you know how to act appropriately in dangerous social situations? What to do if you get into a fight with another group?If your answers is "No" on any of the above question, than do not worry because Défi is here for you! On 13th of March we organize a self defense training together with Thom de Moor. He will lead the training and has experience in several martial arts. He has learned a lot about self-defense over the years. Not only aspects related to fighting but also a lot of theory and laws regarding self-defense situations.This self-defense training is accessible for everyone and the following aspects will be addressed during the training: some basic self-defense practices, striking basics/defenses, verbal judo and role playing. There will be some sweat during this activity, but we encourage you to wear your everyday clothing. Because that will most likely also be what you are wearing if you get into a situation where you have to perform the skills you will learn.

The capacity for this training is 30 participants. If there are more subscription than this at 10th of March 23.59h there will be a draw.

After the trip in 2020 was cancelled, we will try again three years later! ATHENA is organizing a city trip to Gent in 2023! We will be visiting Gent from Friday the 10th to Sunday the 12th of March. We have arranged a hostel to sleep in for two nights, including breakfast. Furthermore, we already have two activities planned to explore the city and a nice dinner for all! The rest of the weekend, you are free to do what you want: drink some Belgian beers, shop till you drop, do a canal cruise or look at amazing graffiti art!The costs (including hostel with breakfast, two activities and one dinner) will be 30 euros for GEWIS members and 85 euros for graduated members.

Ja, je leest het goed! Het GEPWNAGE LAN weekend is weer terug van weggeweest! In het weekend van 24 tot 26 februari wordt de lan gehouden in het Metaforum. Inschrijfkosten zijn maar 10 euro voor studenten (Avondeten op vrijdag en zaterdag en ontbijt op zaterdag en zondag inbegrepen)!

Op vrijdag wordt er in de avond pizza besteld en zal er iWok beschikbaar zijn voor degenen die wat gezonders willen, op zaterdag zullen we iets bij Hubble bestellen.

Vrijdag beginnen we om 15:00 en sluiten de deuren om 23:30. Zaterdag kan je terugkomen om 9:00 en sluiten we weer om 23:30. Zondag begint het weer om 9:00 en eindigen we de lan om 15:00.

There will also be a member change within the Advisory Board.The 41st board will present their Semi-Annual report. This includes the board policy, personal letters of the board, and the semi-annual financial report.The 41st board will present a rebudget of GEWIS for the year 2022-2023. The rebudget entails a change from including VAT to excluding VAT on all posts. There will be a vote about this budget.Multiple budgets will be discussed and there will be a vote on these budgets. One of these budgets is about buying a party tent for GEWIS. This will be presented by the 41st board of GEWIS. Furthermore, B.O.O.M. has sent in a letter with the request for extra money for their outdoor weekend.

Relevant documents can be found online or will become available online as soon as possible on this page.

Agenda points can be sent to the board in a digital fashion via board@gewis.nl. This can be done at most four days in advance. The GMM will take place in English.

On Saturday February 11, 2023, a group of international Erasmus exchange students will arrive on the TU/e campus to have an amazing introduction day! Those international students are staying here for at least half a year, but they have no knowledge about the Netherlands, Eindhoven, or this university. To help those students feel at home, we are organizing this introduction day!

Every Erasmus student will be paired up with a student that currently studies here, a buddy. Therefore, we are looking for you! On the 11th of February you will meet your buddies in real life and you will guide them during the day. During this intro day, you will have the chance to get to know more people and make friends from all over the world. The intro day will be completely free for you and there will lots of fun activities. We won't spoil too much but there definitely will be a city tour and a pubquiz.

Welcome to the new year! It seems only yesterday when we collectively ended 2022 with a big bang. Some look back on the previous year with great fondness, while most are happy a year of misery is done. Therefore, we need to grab every opportunity to celebrate a new start of a year that is still open, and can potentially include everything you ever wished for!

And of course, like always, Dispuut “In Vino Veritas” does not disappoint! To kick off the celebrations, we're organizing a special monthly drink honouring a new year full of opportunity, featuring a refreshing and bubbly sparkling wines. Whether you're ringing in the new year with friends or enjoying the company of new comrades, this sparkling wine is the perfect way to add some sparkle to your evening. So raise a glass and cheers to the start of a new year full of possibilities.

The only thing you have to do is be present in the GEWIS room next Tuesday, January 10 2023, from 5 o’clock onwards I.V.V will take care of the rest! Bestaande encryptietechnieken kunnen communicatie en opslag goed beveiligen, maar wat doe je met data tijdens de verwerking? Did you grow up with legos? If you did, you probably had a wonderful childhood filled with hours of fun! If not, you don't know what you've missed. Regardless, the AC has a great ACtivity for you: Lego building!

We have all the building blocks for a wonderful ACtivity: snACks, our fellow GEWIS members, and lego sets of course. We have a variety of sets, including (probably) at least one you will like. Whether you want to build your own rollercoaster like Phineas and Ferb or like the sound of a snazzy jazz quartet, or even the Star Wars set: the AT-AT, we will try to get it! The other sets are a surprise.

Wat krijg je als je Ruben zijn calamares niet opeet? Juist ja, Een kwaaie B.O.O.M. met inktvis. Huh? Zei daar iemand Driving Home For Christmas?! Nee. Maar dit bracht ons wel op een idee: laten we Christmas Sweather Friday eventjes dunnetjes overdoen! En om dit idee niet alleen tot iets conceptueels te beperken, nodigen we jou en al je vrienden inclusief kersttrui uit om op vrijdagmiddag vanaf 13:30 naar ons GEWIS te komen. Dan zul je betoverd worden door een waar kerstwonder!

Want wat je hebt gehoord klopt! Niet alleen de sint is weer gekomen, maar ook je moeder gisteravond! En Rudi en Bou natuurlijk ook! Daarnaast zullen de legendarische vrijdagmiddagen aan de bar met het eindeloos genot van de keelklanken van ene Chris Rea en consorten ook een comeback maken. De laatste vrijdag voor kerst kun je genieten van een weergaloze activiteit waarin je uitgedaagd wordt om kerstmis te redden. Het is namelijk zo dat GEWIS heeft nagelaten de kerstboom te versieren. Oh nee! Hier moet natuurlijk zo snel mogelijk iets aan gedaan worden, en alleen jij (en je maat) kunnen ons helpen. Zet je beste beentje voor en probeer alleen, of met zijn tweeën, de kerstboom binnen een minuut zo geweldig mogelijk, alsof het het laatst rondlopende rendiertje op Stratumseind is, te versieren.

Per opgehangen bal krijg je naargelang via een vooraf aangegeven puntensysteem scores. Echter is dit niet het enige waarop je een cijfer zult ontvangen. Een vakkundige jury zal ook de algemene stijl, kwaliteit, verdeling, entourage, mimiek, achterliggende gedachte, gortigheid, je-ne-sais-quoi, joi-de-vivre en festiviteitsgehalte beoordelen. Naar gelang van de getoonde skills zal er aan het eind van de activiteit een waardige prijs worden uitgedeeld aan de gelukkige winnaar, en het gelukkig winnend tweetal.

Maar niet alleen winnaars kunnen juichen, kerstmis gaat namelijk om samenhorigheid en gezelschap. Dus ook voor alle losers hebben we iets moois in petto. Deze twee bronstige jongens hebben gezorgd dat er overheerlijke deelflessen (hier mag je er wel één van kopen, mits je hem niet alleen opdrinkt) kerstgerstennat in de koelkast staat (we love you, BAC!). Deze zullen aan te schaffen zijn vanaf 14:00, want de kerstman heeft alle colleges die dag afgeschaft! Dus schroom niet om langs te komen, want het wordt een middag vol plezier, vertier, gezelligheid, lachen, tranen en kerstgevoel. Speciaal voor jullie, met liefde door ons.

Hallo allemaal,

Het is zover, het grote afscheidsfeest van GELIMBO komt eraan. Op maandag 19 december zullen wij ons laatste feest op Stratumseind geven als actief dispuut bij GEWIS. Het thema is A Nightmare Before Christmas, want een grotere nachtmerrie dan dit bestaat er toch niet in de week van Kerstmis! Kom verkleed als nooit tevoren, dat zullen wij ook doen. Denk aan scary christmas: enge kerstman, verloren elfjes, enz…

Het vindt plaats bij café Peppers op Stratumseind vanaf 20.11 uur. Er zijn gratis welkomstshotjes, bier en fris voor maar 2 euro en wijn voor 2,50. Schrijf je in op deze inschrijflijst en claim je kaartje! Je kan dan 1 euro betalen op een van de komende borrels of aan de deur.

Cold weather is glooming over us so it's time to get in the Christmas spirit!

That is why, on the 17th of December, GeLOBAL is taking you to the cozy Christmas market in Cologne, Germany.

Each year, over 4 million visitors walk through multiple locations of the market, visiting 150 stands filled with sweets, warm food and games. It is a perfect opportunity to relax with friends and drink hot chocolate while exploring the city :).

The activity is limited to 50 people, so keep an eye out for the free spots. It costs 28 euros, which includes transport and dinner.We have a whole bus for ourselves, to take us from Eindhoven to Cologne and back.

It is a whole day acitivity, so come rested and and dress warm!

Waarde leden der s.v. GEWIS,

De tijd is aangebroken om te vieren. Levensjaar na levensjaar wordt afgevinkt, en de tijd om het potlood er weer bij te pakken breekt weldra aan. Echter, waar onze neuzen jarenlang slechts de spreekwoordelijke boter hebben beroerd, worden deze nu op lang vergeten feiten gedrukt. Zo verschijnen voorzichtige vraagtekens bij de vanzelfsprekendheid van het genoeglijk bestaan, van het aangenaam vertoeven.

Terwijl de student bibberend zijn bankzaken bekijkt, en menig rekening reeds rouwvolle gezichten opwekt, is genot het slachtoffer. Kaarslicht wordt geruild voor ledlamp, lederen schoen voor croc, croissant maakt plaats voor casinobrood, en tijdens de casinoavond wisselt slechts eer en roem van eigenaar. Alleen de Lidl Pluskaart staat tussen student en faillissement.

Enfin, excuses voor de ietwat dramatische toon. Desalniettemin belicht het bovenstaande een schrijnend probleem: decadentie is helaas het eerste wat bij menigeen het onderspit moet delven, wanneer crisistijd de portemonnee vervloekt heeft. Echter biedt Hèt Dispuut wederom een uitweg: puur genot voor een vriendenprijsje. Een Decadent Weekend vol culinaire geneugten, met wijn en goed gezelschap, waar het dagelijks leven kortstondig vergeten mag worden. Geen kopzorgen die heerlijkheid in de weg staan.

In ruil voor 75 euro en een zondagse kater wordt u naar het pittoreske Ammeldingen bei Neuerburg gebracht, waar u wordt voorzien van een onbeschofte hoeveelheid wijn en spijs. De zaterdagmiddag staat in het teken van het ontdekken van de omgeving, gevolgd door een zevengangendiner waarvoor geld noch moeite gespaard is. Een ongeëvenaarde ervaring van het Bourgondisch leven.

Of course, no social drink is complete without a... well, drink! During the social drink, the lights in the room will change between red, green and blue. Hello world! Computers have become a mainstay part of our daily lives. Whether it's a laptop, phone or abacus, people have made great progress using these machines. This is why GEPWNAGE, together with the CBC, want to show the history of the pc to you! The HomeComputerMuseum in Helmond will open it's doors for the members of GEWIS on the 3rd of december. We will be able to look at all types of computers and determine the age old question of whether it will run Doom, the older computers will have different games to try on like pacman! The tickets will be free for first years, and €1 for older members but travel costs won't be reimbursed. We will travel together from 10.10 on Eindhoven central. Please subscribe so that we know how many people will join.

Hi there culinary geniuses,

Do you like cooking or do you just like eating? Well, GETAART got you covered by organizing a dinner roulette. You can sign up with a partner and experience exquisite dishes prepared by two other pairs and yourself.

The idea of a dinner roulette is that you will create one dish (appetizer, main dish, or dessert) together with your partner and organize a place to serve it (yours or your partner's place). Please enter your preference for the course you would like to cook in the subscription form. You will serve this dish to your partner, two other pairs, and yourself. The other courses will be taken care of by the other pairs.

By the end of the evening, you would have had a three-course meal at three different locations and only made one of those courses yourself. What a bargain, right?

What's more, you will only need to pay a measly 6 euros for this entire feast! The cooking costs for the appetizer can be declared up to €20, the main course up to €30, and the dessert up to €20 (so €70 in total for all cooking costs).

You will also mix and mingle with a lot of people throughout the night and experience the genius culinary creations of others.

To make sure that the travel time is not too long between your courses please let us know where you are planning to serve your dish by email (getaart@gewis.nl) after you have subscribed. The information will only be communicated to members of GETAART, it will only be used for the schedule, and of course all the information on locations will be deleted afterward.

Not necessarily a problem, but if it becomes a big part of your life and hinders you in your everyday life then it does become a problem.

During this wellbeing hour, together with professional Laura Curta we will share our own experiences with everyday addictive behaviors and give each other tips and tricks to keep control of it.

Dear student,

Coming 30th November the 2022 Edition of the SNiC Congress - CelerIT will take place in the Parktheater in Eindhoven.

First, for those of you that aren’t all too familiar, a little more about the SNiC Congress: The SNIC congress itself takes place yearly in November, in a different city every year. It attracts hundreds of students from all throughout the country. It’s a single-day event where lots of speakers come and give an interesting talk about state-of-the-art technology or practices in the aforementioned fields. Not only is the day filled with exciting presentations about innovation, during the breaks and after the event you’re also able to have a chat with any of the participating companies of the congress. They can tell you a lot about career-related questions and projects that their companies are currently working on related to the themes of the congress.

Now for what makes this year’s edition special. As it may not be very obvious, CelerIT (pronounced Celer - IT) is a play on the word Celerity, which in turn is not a very common word. The word can be described as meaning the swiftness of motion. We have chosen to translate this definition into an interpretation that is applicable to our field of science. Our congress will be all about the bigger picture of how fast technology has been, and still is, evolving. One of our speakers, Philippe Schoonejans, is a project manager at human and robotic exploration for ESA (the European Space Agency). After decades of experience he is currently helping develop a space arm for sampling material from Mars.Another innovative researcher, Amanda Prorok, works in the field of multi-agent and multi-robot systems. Her lab’s research team focuses on finding new ways to coordinate artificially intelligent agents. This involves a very methodological approach to solving many-faceted logistical challenges and has numerous applications to real world systems.You may have heard of a YouTube channel by the name of 3Blue1Brown. They explore challenging (sometimes mind-boggling) problems in mathematics and adjacent fields and present them in a format such that they can be comprehended with little to no prior knowledge while still diving deep into their complexity in a very enticing presenting style.

As fun as climbing actual B.O.O.M.en might be, for this activity we will be conquering the indoor climbing walls of Neoliet! Additionally, we will also explore some indoor 'speleo' tunnels in which you can both prove your dexterity and unleash your inner child without being judged*. Dear members of GEWIS, Last GMM, there was a discussion about how GEWIS could best tackle problems involving the retainment of active members. Hence, there will be a brainstorm about this topic. We will talk about what options there are and which of those would be realistic and feasible during this brainstorm, with FREE lunch! The problem: During the last few years, COVID had quite an impact on the influx of active members. This puts more pressure on the active members we have and in order to keep them working on all the fun and projects that are going on, we might need to change something within the association. At this moment, but this has been a reoccurring topic over the past years, there are members that not feel valued enough and would like to see more appreciation for their work from time to time. Possible solutions: During the GMM, there was a discussion about making a new post on the budget focused on "retainment active members". The goal of this brainstorm is thinking about how this could be best implemented. These ideas were discussed before:

The board is totally free in giving something to a group as sign of appreciation. There will be no strict policy and each board can see for themselves how they want to spend it.Organs can hand in a budget to ask for some money, for example if they want lunch during a working moment.Every organ of GEWIS has a standard budget per year that they can spend, this can be either lunch, or a group bonding activity

The Multi Annual Strategic Vision is a document that states the strategy, vision, wishes and goals for GEWIS over multiple years. Almost four years ago, in May 2019, the MASV document was created and presented at AV169. Back then, it was suggested by the Task Force that every four years an extensive revision of this strategic vision is desirable. This brainstorm evening is held to discuss whether rewriting the MASV is necessary. Moreover, a discussion will be held about a possible action plan on how the revision can be done.

Before brainstorming, dinner will be provided by the board. The only thing necessary to attend this session is to have read the MASV document. The document can be found here.

Did you know that the BAC (BAr Committee) is turning 25 this academic year? And that the BAC (Bijzondere Activiteiten Commissie) is even older? This means that we will be celebrating our fifth en seventh Lustrum at the same time! Most activities will likely take place in May (more on this later). However, we are planning to kick off our Lustrum year with a legendary weekend full of BAC related activities (we’re gonna drink beer, duh). The weekend will take place in the marvelous city of Antwerpen, Belgium. We have put together a filled (but not too busy) schedule, full with activities that every beer-enthusiast is sure to enjoy.

During the weekend, we will stay in a hostel in the middle of the beautiful historical city center. On Friday, we have organized a delicious 2-course dinner where you can enjoy one of the 366 Belgian craft beers that are served. After the dinner, you are free to explore Antwerpen (and its nightlife) some more.

On Saturday afternoon, we will have a tour of a real Belgian brewery! 2 beers are included in this tour, such that we can enjoy the tour even more. After the tour, we will make the streets of Antwerpen unsafe (in a safe way) on 2 beer bicycles, that we are free to use for 2 hours. Of course, beer is included, as is the BOB (designated driver), such that we can all enjoy some beers while on the road. What you want to do for the rest of the weekend is yours to decide, but it is likely that beer will still be involved in some way.

The weekend will only cost you €65 if you are a student and €115 otherwise. Transport, stay in the hostel, dinner for one night, the tour of the brewery and the beer bicycles are included in this price. We can only take 32 people with us, so make sure to subscribe fast! The subscription list opens Friday the 23rd of September at 12:00, if it is full before 17:00 there will be a draw, afterwards it is first come, first serve. Note that students have priority over burgers, as have people with cars.

It is widely known that in the time of the gladiators the "Gebroeders Scooter Totale Escalatie Centurion" was used to give rise to the strongest of warriors ever to walk on the face of the earth. However, it has been mentioned in the sacred texts that there was a ritual, a pathway, which if one would walk down that road they would become the ruler of Rome. Since then Rome is not quite wat it used to be, but the ritual still persists. The texts were simple; for one to become the ultimate gladiator they would not only have to defeat the "Gebroeders Scooter Totale Escalatie Centurion" part 1 but also the "Gebroeders Scooter Totale Escalatie Centurion 2.0"!

We would like to invite the few fools brave enough to walk down this road to join us. There will be new and special light effects provided by AViCo, there will be defeat and there must be victors. Rise up to the challenge! Raise your shot glass and do your best!

The planning will be to start part one at 17:30 and after 100 minutes we will have a 70 minute break to eat some food from the AMON (dinner list below). After you have restored your inner strength we will continue with part two and see who will survive.

New locations (such as cruise ships) are being converted to shelter asylum seekers. You can imagine that in times of war (Ukraine) and the continuous flow of specific refugees (Syrians) the influx of asylum seekers continues. In combination with staff shortages at the Dutch Immigration Service (IND) this causes major problems. The IND assesses all applications from foreign nationals who want to live in the Netherlands or want to become Dutch citizens.We help the IND with a better planning process within the complex migration chain by providing a custom software solution. We need your help for this case!In recent years, the large number of applications has resulted in a backlog of thousands of asylum applications. . This is troublesome for both; the asylum seekers who are waiting for their application review, as well as for the Dutch Immigration Service, that have to pay penalties for long asylum processes.With your team you will help the IND by efficiently reducing the backlog of thousands of asylum applications. For the best solutions you have to take different dependencies into account such as availability of employees, competence (languages) of employees, nationality of refugees, penalties of refugees and of course ethical decisions.Which group will manage to get to the lowest penalty fee, while taking ethics into account?

Yet, a line of code is read more often than it is being written. That's why we need to write a lot of documentation to explain what our code does, and how it works. But now we are writing the same thing twice! Wouldn't it be nicer to write the documentation once, and generate the source code from that? And that's precisely what we've done with SuperModels, an in-house developed application that is capable of performing Model Driven Engineering. We can create models representing how a piece of software or a machine works. From these models, we can generate (part of) the source code. But it doesn't stop there, because once you have the power of generators, why not generate more artifacts such as installers, configuration files, (REST) interfaces? Or even better, somehow clone the physical machine itself? Come, see and listen what power Model Driven Engineering has, and how it might affect your vision of what a programming language is. Casper Smits has been with Sioux for a little more than a year. He joined directly after completing his MSc in Computer Science and Engineering at the TU/e. Being skeptical at first, by witnessing the power of Model Driven Engineering first-hand, he is now a big advocate, and one of the main contributors to the in-house SuperModels toolchain. I.V.V and GeLOBAL invite you to this journey across Europe where we will be tasting wines from different regions, because with every wine, its grape, chateau or preparation, comes a beautiful story that deserves to be shared. Alongside with the intriguing chronicle of the wine, we will also shed light on the traditions and folklore of the region.

The wine tasting will be held at the GEWISroom from 17:00 until 20:00 and there will be some small amenities from the origin countries of the wines.You can join for merely 3.00 euros as a FRESHMAN and 4.00 euros as an UPPER-YEAR. Sign-up is done in duos, so you can enjoy wines together with a companion.

Next to the beginners training of October 5th, Gijs will also be giving an advanced training! A vote will be held about potential changes to the Internal Regulations. The 40th board will present the secretarial part of their Annual Report. The 41st board will present an information document about possible new coffee machines and a vote will be held with regards to approving the expenses for the coffee machine. The 41st board will present a rebudget of GEWIS for the year 2022-2023 and a vote will be held with regards to this rebudget. The Advisory Board will give an update on the current status. There will be a vote about installing and discharging members from the Advisory Board and lastly, there will be a vote on establishing a task force to evaluate the MASV (Multi Annual Strategic Vision) and research whether rewriting the MASV is necessary.

It's held on October 9 and as a committee very interested in running, we would like to encourage you to join!Of course, we're not asking you to run the full marathon, if that's a bit too much for you. ARGHH scheepslieden!! Ter voorbereiding van het legendarische zeilweekend wat wij in Q4 gaan organiseren komt er een schitterende GEZWEM activiteit aan! Ditmaal zal het weer plaatsvinden op de manier zoals u van ons gewend bent, maar dan gepropt in 1 dag. Wij zullen bij Riverside Outdoor & Events (in Appeltern) te water gaan in valk-boten, met 4-5 personen per boot, om vervolgens te genieten van een heerlijke dag zeilen. Zeilervaring is niet nodig! Wij zullen gezamenlijk vanuit Eindhoven naar de zeillocatie reizen. Hiervoor kunnen we nog wel een aantal auto's gebruiken omdat de locatie lastig te bereiken is met het OV.

Er zijn slechts 25 plekken beschikbaar dus meld je snel aan! Als er meer dan 25 aanmeldingen zijn wanneer de inschrijfdeadline is verlopen zal er een loting plaatsvinden.

Donald Knuth is a smart man with ideas. If smart people have ideas, they write books about it. But Donald was fed up with the available text processing software for writing books, so he wrote his own. This became LaTeX.

Nowadays, LaTeX is the de facto standard in scientific text processing. It has built-in support for all sorts of mathematical characters, it can be used for lots of things, like homework, presentations and resumes and it makes your life a lot easier. As a mathematician you will first use LaTeX in Q1 during the Linear Algebra 1 course, as a computer scientist, you will use it during Data Structures in Q3. Because LaTeX is an invaluable skill when you are studying Mathematics or Computer Science, TRAIN is offering a LaTeX-training! The training will be given by our very own Gijs de Man, we will provide some snacks and drinks while diving into the world of scientific test processing. The beginners training will take place on campus, Wednesday October 5th in the evening. There are around 70 places, so be on time. There will also be an advanced training one week later, more information about this will follow soon.

Fighting human trafficking with cryptographyToday's society is powered by data. As more parts of our lives are digitized, how do we ensure the proper use of our data? Meet the cryptographic technique called Multi-Party Computation (MPC). In this presentation we will explain the basic concepts behind this method and discuss applications. As an example use case, we helped a group of NGOs and government agencies to share data in a privacy-preserving manner such that they could fight human trafficking without sacrificing the privacy of victims.

Een hele lange tijd geleden, toen Défi nog een Dispuut In Oprichting was, organiseerde wij de Evening Eating Experience - Dining in the Dark. Gezien het succes van toen, is het weer tijd voor zo’n toffe activiteit!

We zijn terug met een nieuwe editie van deze unieke eetervaring. Tijdens deze editie zullen nieuwe interessante, maar verrassend lekkere, gerechten en drankjes genuttigd worden. Een aantal van de rondes zullen geblinddoekte proef testjes zijn, andere rondes ga je de ingrediënten van de gerechten raden. We willen je grenzen niet te veel opzoeken, dus je hoeft je geen zorgen te maken dat je insecten (of dergelijke) gaat eten. Al het eten zal vegetarisch zijn.

De activiteit begint om 18:00 en zal rond 22:00 afgelopen zijn. Je hoeft niks te eten voor het begin van de activiteit. We zorgen ervoor dat je genoeg te eten krijgt gedurende de avond, zodat je met een volle buik weer naar huis gaat. Meedoen aan de EEE kost 9 euro. Voor sjaars zijn de kosten gereduceerd naar 5 euro. We would like to share this with you, so we are organizing an indoor picknick on Wednesday the 28th of September at GEWIS! Hi first-year students!

This Monday, all First Year Committees will be formed! If you would like to join one, please come to MetaForum room 7 on Monday 26th during the break. Every first-year student is welcome!

There was an information meeting last week about FYCs, it doesn't matter if you did not join that meeting. Here is some information about these committees but feel free to send me an email (cib@gewis.nl) or find me in the GEWIS room if you want to know more.

What is a (first year) committee?

An FYC is a committee specially designed for first year students. This means that the workload is low, it focuses on having fun, and you can decide yourself how active you would like to be.A committee is basically a group of people who work on a certain subject together. They meet regularly and members of the committee have different tasks/functions. An FYC always has:

A chair. He or she is the person who leads the meetings and makes sure people do their job on time

A secretary. This person is responsible for all incoming (e)mail and responds to it, and writing pieces for other parties (think about the GEWIS Instagram account, yearbook, or our own newspaper)​​​​​​

A treasurer. With this function, you are responsible for the money. You are the one who makes a budget if needed and collects all the receipts of the costs that were made (for instance for an activity).All extra functions you can come up with yourself. Some examples from last year are music meister (puts on music during meetings/activities), snack manager (gets snacks for meetings), Insta manager, etc.

The idea is that your FYC organizes one activity during this academic year. It is totally up to you what kind of activity this is! We've seen people go sky diving, organize a pub quiz or a chess tournament, or have a karaoke evening in the city.

Together with your FYC you can score points things like joining activities, coming to our borrels (social drinks), passing courses, and organizing activities. The FYC with the highest score wins a nice prize at the end of the year!

Workload

The workload is a bit dependent on what kind of activity you are organizing and how many activities you want to organize. Most FYCs meet once every two weeks, during a break. Experience tells us that this is very achievable next to your bachelor studies!

What is in it for you

The best thing about FYCs is that you get to know a lot of new people from both Computer Science as well as Mathematics. If you for example did not have a very nice group during introduction week, this is a perfect second chance to literally make friends for life.

Het begin van het nieuwe academische jaar brengt altijd veel vreugde met zich mee: het maken van nieuwe vrienden, leren over nieuwe onderwerpen, maar het allerbelangrijkst de EAPC! Ja, echt waar.

De EAPC, Eindhoven Algorithmic Programming Contest, is een jaarlijks programmeertoernooi. Tijdens dit toernooi zul je programmeerproblemen oplossen samen met 2 teammaten (en een trouw, bijgeleverd spiekbriefje).Tijdens de dag krijg je van ons eten en drinken, en een laptop voor de wedstrijd. Het enige wat je dus zelf mee hoeft te brengen zijn je beste programmeervaardigheden!

Do you love geometric figures so much that you want to give it a try in prACtice? It is the AC lustrum, so here is a classic one for you! Wednesday September 21st, you can come pooling with the AC at SPC Woensel! You will share a table with 3 other members (4 people per table). Everyone can pool for two hours for €2,50 (€1,50 for first years), but if you love it so much and want to extend it with an extra hour, you can do so for 10,50 euro per table. The pooling starts at SPC Woensel at 19:00, but if you want to travel together with us, make sure you're at GEWIS at half past six, so we can head to the pool centre by bike or public transport.

Of course there is dinner for those who don't like to hit pool balls with an empty stomACh. You can only choose for wok, which will be delivered at GEWIS around 17:45. Robin Mennens will provide an interesting presentation on why he decided to go for the 2 year salaried post-master PDEng (EngD) Software Technology program for technological designers with TU/e, give some nice examples of multidisciplinary group training projects and also elaborate on his individual graduation project “The Philips Remote AI Streaming (PRAIS) platform”. His thesis was nominated for TU/e PDEng Thesis Award 2021.

Het is nACht in Wakkerdam! Er vinden allerlei geheimzinnige ACtiviteiten plaats, soms met dodelijke afloop. Je wordt wakker en ontdekt dat je buur vermoord is, opgepeuzeld door weerwolven. Is Wakkerdam in staat om de mysteries van de nACht te ontrafelen voordat het hele dorp opgepeuzeld wordt door de wolven?

Weerwolven van Wakkerdam is een klassieke AC ACtiviteit. Het gerucht gaat dat het de favoriete ACtiviteit van onze penningmeester is. Naast het klassieke weerwolven gaan we ook weerwolven één nACht spelen, een snellere one shot voor de liefhebbers. Uiteraard kun je dit ook spelen als je Wakkerdam niet weet te overleven.

Er is een eetlijst zodat je niet zo hongerig aan de avond hoeft te beginnen als de weerwolven. We gaan pizza's bestellen bij Domino's. Als je mee wilt bestellen, voeg je bestelling dan toe aan de eetlijst.

Uiteraard zullen wij ook voor snACks zorgen. Alles wat je mee hoeft te nemen zijn een goed humeur en je vrienden, want hoe meer zielen, hoe meer vreugd. Tot de 19e!

De eerste week van het academisch jaar zit er weer op. Voor sommigen is het een prestatie en voor sommigen is het tijd voor een zalig glas wijn. In beide gevallen is het een feestelijk moment en bij elke viering is het gebruikelijk om een glas mousserende wijn te drinken!

Het Dispuut "In Vino Veritas" weet hier wel raad mee. Zoals de meeste oudere lezers waarschijnlijk wel zullen weten, staat I.V.V bekend om het organiseren van de Maand'lijksche borrel en 16 september is weer een moment om te genieten van een goed glas wijn of bubbels. Ook is het een moment om de opening van het academisch jaar te vieren! Zoals gebruikelijk vindt dit evenement plaats in de GEWIS-ruimte van 17:00 tot 21:30 uur.

Tijdens de Maand'lijksche borrel zijn er enkele kleine voorzieningen zoals toast, kaas en druiven om van te genieten tijdens het drinken van uw wijn. U zult ook merken dat onze dispuutsleden zich herkenbaar zullen maken met hun nette kledij en hopelijk kunt u zich bij ons aansluiten in deze formele houding.

Wij hopen u daar te zien! Als u al enthousiast bent en niet kunt wachten om naar onze Maand'lijkse borrel te komen, dan adviseer ik u een glas te pakken en een fles wijn te openen om uw dorst voor nu te stillen.

As you might have noticed, GEWIS organizes a lot of different activities, both fun and educational. Different committees and fraternities organize these activities.As first year student, you are also able to become part of such a committee which is called a First Year Committee. These are specially made for first year students and are a great way to make new friends, learn different skills, and mainly have a lot of fun. We know there is a lot expected of you in your first year and the workload can be heavy. We took this into account when we set up these committees, so please don’t be afraid that you have to do a lot of work and have many obligations. It is really about having a nice time:)

In the weekend of 9-11 September the first GEWIS-weekend will take place: the one and only FLUP! It will be a big party, but only for three days! Heb je deze donderdag een calculus toets in de avond maar nog geen idee waar je gaat eten van te voren of achteraf? Geen zorgen! For first year students!After a hectic introduction week where you have (hopefully) made a lot of new friends it is time to really start your student life. And no student life without studying. However, you might already heard a lot of concepts you have never heard of, like "Canvas", "MyTimetable", "Plan App" or "Osiris". But don’t be afraid! There is no need to worry. Attending this training will teach you all the basics you need to know to survive all the software at the TU/e. In case there are more then 135 people that want to attend, there will be a "first come, first serve" policy. You can also attend the training online! Don’t forget to bring your laptop!

On Saturday September 3, 2022, a group of international Erasmus exchange students will arrive on the TU/e campus to have an amazing introduction day! Those international students are staying here for at least half a year, but they have no knowledge about the Netherlands, Eindhoven, or this university. To help those students feel at home, we are organizing this introduction day!

Every Erasmus student will be paired up with a student that currently studies here, a buddy. Therefore, we are looking for you! On the 3rd of September you will meet your buddies in real life and you will guide them during the day. During this intro day, you will have the chance to get to know more people and make friends from all over the world. The intro day will be completely free for you and there will lots of fun activities. We won't spoil too much but there definitely will be a city tour and a pubquiz.

Lieve leden, nu de tentamens dichterbij komen, zijn wij al weer vooruit aan het kijken naar leuke plannen voor de zonnige zomer. Gezien jullie waarschijnlijk ook al aan het brainstormen zijn over welke exotische eilanden te bezoeken en welke extravagante festivals je gaat bezoeken. Défi is hier om deze keuze net iets makkelijker voor je te maken: Op zaterdag 6 augustus gaan we namelijk naar de Kanaal Parade in Amsterdam!

De Kanaal Parade begint om 12:30 vanaf de Scheepsvaart, dus we zullen rond 12:00 verzamelen bij Amsterdam CS. De precieze tijden zullen tijdig gecommuniceerd worden naar de deelnemers. De Kanaal Parade eindigt rond 17:00, maar de after parties beginnen al om 16:00 , dus we zullen de bekendste daarvan ook even gaan bekijken! Mocht je echter later aan willen sluiten of eerder naar huis willen gaan, mag dit natuurlijk ook!

Het festival is dus helemaal gratis. Het enige waar je voor hoeft te betalen (en zelf moet regelen) is het vervoer naar en van Amsterdam. Je kunt echter een groepsretour regelen voor ongeveer 5 euro per persoon*. Dus, mocht je geïnteresseerd zijn in deze groep deal, schrijf je daar dan ook mee in op de website en regel zelf een groepje om samen mee te reizen.

Hi all!Recently, the GEWIS was gifted some monitors. The monitors are older than the monitor the board room uses, so we have decided to give them away. The monitors can be connected using a DVI cable.We will be giving these screens away for free. Since we want to give everybody the same chance of getting a screen, a draw will be held. When you enter the draw, it is expected from you that you are able to pick up a screen before August 8th.

After a year of studying and telling your parents how much you loved your time here, especially the BAC borrels, it is time to let your parents experience the same. On the 14th of July, the BAC will organize the 'Os pa en ma borrel', which is Brabants for 'Dad and mom borrel'. As the name explains, you can bring your parents to enjoy a nice cold Grolsch together with your fellow studymates. Next to that, the BAC will make sure there is some food that your parents can prepare, just like they do at home for you. So invite your parents and have a beer with them!

Beste strandfeestvierders, Zon, zee en zuipen. Wie heeft daar zin in? Jij! Op maandag 11 juli 2022 vindt het zonnige GELIMBO strandfeest plaats! Heb jij ook zoveel zin om languit op het strand te liggen en van de zon, de zee en een drankje te genieten? Nou, wij ook! Het zal plaatsvinden bij Beachclub Sunrise: dé hotspot van het Zuiden, bij Aquabest. Neem een kijkje bij deze prachtige locatie: https://beachclubsunrise.nl. In de middag is er alle ruimte en tijd om te chillen op het strand en 's avonds vanaf 20 uur zullen er drie verschillende foodcorners klaar staan voor het compleet geregelde avondeten, inclusief dessert én inclusief late night snack voor als de honger weer opspeelt. Er is een drankarrangement geregeld met wijn, bier, fris en een aantal sterke dranken van 20 tot 01 uur. Wat wil je nog meer? **Let op: er zijn twee inschrijflijsten in aparte tabs. De eerste inschrijflijst is voor de lustrum beachparty die 's avonds van 20.00 tot 01.00 uur wordt gehouden. Een ticket kost 40 euro (70 euro als je een afgestudeerd lid bent). Op 7 juli vindt de constitutieborrel van het 41ste bestuur van GEWIS plaats! Tijdens deze borrel komen veel andere verenigingen, het faculteitsbestuur, de familie van het bestuur, GEWIS organen en leden het bestuur feliciteren. We vieren hun installatie met een avond vol met gezelligheid, gratis bier en goede herinneringen. Voor de constitutieborrel hebben we veel vrijwilligers nodig. We moeten de hele ruimte leeghalen, het bestuur en het gastenboek beschermen en het bestuur naar huis brengen. We horen graag of je beschikbaar bent voor die dag om één van deze taken te doen. Let op: als je het bestuur naar huis moet brengen, moet je nuchter blijven om te kunnen rijden. Als je beschikbaar bent, vul alsjeblieft dit formulier in. De verplichte infomeeting, waarop alles wordt uitgelegd over de ordecommissie, vindt plaats op maandag 20 juni van 12:40 tot 13:20 in MF11/12.
