Aangezien carnaval in Mestreech misschien wel te zot is voor sommige van jullie, zal de GEWIS prins jullie in plaats daarvan naar Remunj (Roermond) brengen, wat je ook een idee zou moeten geven wat Limburgse gezelligheid inhoudt. Maak je geen zorgen als je niet bekend bent met de stad of Limburg in het algemeen, want de prins weet precies welke plekken een bezoekje waard zijn!

Schrijf je nu in, plunder je lokale toko voor wat VVO'tjes (Versnaperingen Voor Onderweg), en bereid je voor op een zotte dag vol met herinneringen die je nooit zal vergeten!

Ook dit jaar zal GEWIS weer samen met de prins de Stropdas Kroegentocht lopen. Zoals altijd zal deze op de zondag (15 februari) van carnaval plaatsvinden. De kaartverkoop gaat al op 4 december om 12:00 open. Normaal gesproken zijn alle stropdassen binnen 20 minuten uitverkocht. Wees er dus snel bij aangezien je je eigen stropdas moet regelen en OP=OP.

After a lot of discussions at GMMs, it is time to evaluate the way money is distributed to weekends organised by organs of GEWIS. Currently, every organ gets a set of amount of money to spend, regardless of the content of the weekend or the number of participants. It can also be difficult for other organs to get budget to organise a new weekend. To find a solution, the current treasurer is organising a brainstorm session on the 11th of February during the lunch.

Join this session to share your opinions and help think of approaches to tackle this for the budget of next year! The session will be led by Hiske and gives room to think of different approaches: no idea is too crazy so do not be afraid to join.

Once upon a time, there existed a dynamic team of ten influential individuals known as the "Introduction Committee 2025." Renowned for their diverse range of activities, their flagship event was undoubtedly the introduction week. Together with the intro parents and the board, they skillfully guided numerous young, eager students into the realm of student life.

As the curtain fell on the Intro25 quest, a new and exciting adventure beckons. This quest eagerly awaits fresh, enthusiastic members to ensure that the upcoming introduction week becomes yet another resounding success. That's where you come in!

The ANVS (Rijkswaterstaat) is the Dutch regulatory body for nuclear safety and radiation protection. We assess and monitor every application of nuclear technology and radiation in the Netherlands, from dental X-ray machines to nuclear powerplants. Maintaining and improving safety is a continuous process that requires sharp analytical skills and expertise from many different disciplines. With national plans to build new nuclear powerplants, the ANVS is preparing for the challenges ahead. Eline and Darcy will present on the concepts of nuclear safety, the role of the national regulator, the challenges of assessment and inspection, and the international cooperation required to maintain high safety standards globally.

Dear students,

Are you very good at dancing, singing, playing an instrument or do you have any other talent worth showing? Then we are looking for you! GEWIS and the M&CS department are organizing a staff and student talent show! During this talent show you can pair up with your favorite teacher to show off your skills. It will be a great moment to bond with your teachers outside of the classroom, and to perform on a stage.

In order to prepare and find a partner for the show, we will organize a 'matching drink' on the 4th of February where you can come by and sign up with a talent, you can also already look for potential partners with who you would like to perform. The matching drink will be in the Eurandom Lounge (the back of the 4th floor of Metaforum) from 17:30 till 19:00. We will provide some snacks and drinks. The talent show itself will take place in June, so there is plenty of time to prepare!

If you would like to come to the matching drink please fill out the following Form. If you are not sure yet, you can always stop by without signing up. You can ofcourse also sign up if you would like to join, but cannot make it to the drink.

Carnaval is around the corner and you know what that means: drinking a lot of beer and listening to the best hits of the Gebroeders Scooter! Are you an experienced and trained borrelaar? Are you able to beat the horns of the Gebroeders Scooter without perishing in the process? And are you able to stay in bed Wednesday morning? Then we summon you for the biggest challenge of the year!

We would like to invite the few fools brave enough to walk down this road with us. There will be new and special light effects provided by AViCo and the ABC, there will be beer provided by the BAC, there will be defeat, and there will be victors. Rise up to the challenge! Raise your shot glass and do your best!

At 18:00, we will start our challenge with a first 100-minute run. After the first battle, we will have a break of about an hour to enjoy some food from Snackcenter Eindhoven. The list for ordering food opens a week before the start of the activity and closes the morning of the activity. Then, once we all have recovered our inner strength, we will partake in the second 100-minute adventure.

Because we start somewhat late, we kindly ask everyone to also snack or eat something beforehand. Also (as implied), please do not drink any alcohol before the activity starts. There are initially 27 spots available, but this might be increased. If the activity is full one hour after the subscription list opens, there will be a draw.

Due to the winter weather you have been stuck inside your home. You are feeling very lonely, and you need to touch some grass. To make you feel better, we have the solution: Go hiking together! This year we will be going to Maarheeze!

After the hike on Saturday we will warm up and enjoy a nice Dutch meal which are followed by a chill Saturday evening activity. On Sunday we will enjoy breakfast, and have yet another exiting activity before heading home together.

So pack your bags and lets go hiking!

Just like last year we offer two options, you can hike with or without carrying your bags. If you decide to hike with your bag you get a 5 euro discount (who doesn’t like discounts?!). If too many people decide to hike without bags, we will hold a draw among the people that are able to hike with it.

We will go by train, and we will gather at Eindhoven Central.

Initially there will be 25 spots available, of which 8 spots can leave their luggage in the car. These numbers might be increased if interest is shown. If these spots are filled up before 25 January, 2026 at 12:00 PM, a draw will happen. Otherwise it is first come first serve. At the draw, priority will be given to those who can bring their luggage on the hike.

The challenge:

Refugees often arrive in a new country with countless questions, from finding legal aid to accessing housing, language buddies, or psychological support. At the same time, there are many helpers and organizations eager to help, but matching those two sides efficiently is still a major challenge. Therefore, your mission is to build a digital platform that connects refugees with verified helpers.

You'll design a solution that makes it easy for:

Refugees to identify and communicate their needs.Helpers and organizations to register, verify, and manage their active cases. Together with your team, think of a smart matching system that connects requests with the right professionals; safely, efficiently, and with privacy in mind.Planning:

Traditiegetrouw organiseert de BAC weer de jaarlijkse kerst gala borrrrel!

Dit jaar gaat deze borrel plaatsvinden op 18 december, natuurlijk in de GEWIS ruimte. 

Er zal een lekker welkomstdrankje voor je klaar staan en tijdens de borrel kun je op de foto in onze fotobooth. Zorg daarom voor gepaste galakleding zodat je er schitterend uit ziet op de foto's! De rest van de borrel kun je genieten van unlimited prosecco naast ons vaste assortiment. 

Van al dat borrellen, krijg je natuurlijk honger, daarom zullen er, na het grote succes van vorig jaar, weer broodjes stoofvlees (of voor de vegetariërs onder ons broodjes caprese) te koop zijn gedurende de borrel.

During the workshop you'll learn a fun polechoreography to a Christmas song. No need to worry if you do not have any polefitness experience, this workshop will mostly focus on flow, sensuality and (floor) dance. You will leave this workshop feeling confident and sexy, which we from Défi aim to bring to the people of GEWIS. Bonus: it will also prepare you for the holiday spirit. 

The best part, is that the workshop will be given by the current Dutch Champion Pole Sport Astrid Hoekstra!

Wanneer de laatste bladeren zich overgeven aan de gure decemberwind, en het studentenbestaan wederom afdwaalt tot een sombere strijd tussen deadlines, dalende temperaturen en de immer stijgende bierprijs, gloeit er aan de horizon een sprankje hoop. Want juist dan, wanneer het moreel laag en de behoefte aan comfort groot is, komt Hèt Dispuut wederom met de oplossing: Decadent Weekend.

In het weekend van 12 tot en met 14 december zult u, samen met de heren van In Vino Veritas, uw intrek nemen in een fraai onderkomen aan het water te Sneek, diep verscholen in de Friese contreien. Daar waar de wind vrij waait en de wijn rijk vloeit, zal u worden ondergedompeld in een ambiance die zelfs de meest verstokte minimalist tot overdaad zal verleiden.

Op de vrijdag zal u afreizen naar het hoge noorden, waar u met open armen ontvangen zult worden. Een glas zal klinken, een maaltijd zal verschijnen, en langzaam zult u vergeten dat studiepunten ooit hebben bestaan. De zaterdagmiddag staat, geheel in traditie, vol belevenissen om later aan uw kinderen over te vertellen! Terwijl u zich daar vermaakt, zullen enkele leden van Hèt Dispuut achterblijven om een excellent 7-gangendiner te bereiden volgens het menu dat uiterst zorgvuldig is samengesteld door niemand anders dan onze eigen hooggewaardeerde Dux Luxuriae. 

Op dit majestueuze weekend zal plek zijn voor 29 man. Dus poets uw schoenen, strijk uw overhemd, en laat u dit jaar nogmaals verleiden tot wat het leven werkelijk de moeite waard maakt.

Here we will explain the basics, such as functions, expectations, etc. There is also room to answer any question you might have! The 44th board

Working at Sioux Mathware often means working on the newest technological advancements, dissecting challenging problems by modeling their mathematical counterparts. By creating such a mathematical model, we can provide solutions using our technical know-how. One such problems is the chip milling problem, where the aim is to remove layers of a chip across a large diameter with nanometer precision. Arno will explain more about this project, with Alice providing insights on her internship at Sioux Mathware (relating to the usage of reinforcement learning for scheduling problems).

SNiC is a yearly Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence congress organised by and for students. This year, the event will be organised by a committee from Inter-Actief from the University of Twente_._ The theme of this year’s conference is AvailabilIT, where we focus on the reach of technology and how it shapes our world.

We will explore concepts such as open source software, privacy-enhancing technologies, and information retrieval. During AvailabilIT, you will delve into how these advancements have made technology more available, secure, and beneficial for society. 

Not only is the day filled with exciting presentations, during the breaks and after the event you’re also able to have a chat with any of the participating companies of the conference. They can tell you a lot about career-related questions and projects that their companies are currently working on related to the themes of the conference.

AvailabilIT takes place on the 25th of November in Orpheus, Apeldoorn. You will go there by bus to enjoy a day full of talks, getting to know companies and enjoying the company of fellow students from GEWIS as well as 8 other associations spread over the Netherlands.

Git, the most popular version control system, used around the world by Computer Scientists for all sorts of project. While it is a wonderful tool, makes managing projects really smooth and has saved many side-projects from being accidentally deleted, it can be quite tricky to master. 

Luckily, there is no need to fear, as we are presenting to you the TRAIN Git Training! Do you want to get to know the difference between merging and rebasing? Between committing and pushing? Or how to manage different branches? Do you actually want to know what any of the previous words mean? Come to the training, where an expert on the topic will teach you all  the basics. The only thing you need to bring is a laptop!

Wat is de overeenkomst tussen fietsen en gezelligheid? Juist! Beide zijn beter met bier!

Deze drie prachtige concepten zijn samen te vinden op de BAC bierfietsen, samen zullen we met twee biertweewielers (ze hebben eigenlijk vier wielen) door Eindhoven touren met bier, muziek en een feestelijke sfeer.

Voor €27,50 zul je worden voorzien van 2 uur lang bierfietsen en de mogelijkheid om bier te drinken.

We zullen onze reis beginnen vanaf de P+R Fuutlaan zoals vermeld op de activiteit, maar we zullen ook met een groep om 16:15 vanaf het Dakterras vertrekken naar de locatie.

Drink je geen alcohol? Laf, maar wees niet getreurd, we hebben ook twee chauffeurs nodig die nuchter blijven en de tweewielers besturen. De bestuurders hebben wel een rijbewijs nodig. Lijkt dit wat voor jou? Schrijf je dan in als chauffeur. Als er meer dan twee mensen hier interesse in hebben, zullen we met de geïnteresseerden overleggen om tot een conclusie te komen. Chauffeurs betalen ook slechts €5 voor de activiteit en zullen worden voorzien van frisdrank.

Next academic year, GEWIS will turn 45 and celebrate its 9th Lustrum! In order to celebrate these festivities appropriately, a lustrum committee will be set up. Misschien hoor jij meer bij het type dat het hele GEWIS-lied zingt, of wil je gewoon dat iemand, wie dan ook, eindelijk waardeert dat je al je OLL-algoritmes uit je hoofd hebt geleerd.

Een uiterst professionele jury (lees: de BAC) beoordeelt je performance op flair, uitvoering en hoeveel vingers je daarna nog kunt tellen. En het gaat niet alleen om de eer: er zijn échte prijzen te winnen!

Dus pak je troep, verzamel je moed en misschien ook een handdoek voor op het podium, dit is jouw moment om te schitteren.

Traditie getrouw onthult de Carnavals Commissie weer de GEWIS Prins op deze dag en dat doen we dit jaar met een fantastische pubquiz. Test je Carnavals kennis, kom erachter wie de nieuwe Prins is en win een leuke prijs. Schrijf je in met een team van maximaal 4 en laat zien wat je weet.

Het is immers oogstseizoen voor het belangrijkste fruit dat er is: de druif. Geniet weer met ons mee van heerlijke wijnen en een prachtige borrelplank, samengesteld door de beste fijnproevers die onze vereniging kent: Leden van Hèt Dispuut.

The exams are once again approaching fast! Of course you need a nice place to study. You might think about going to the crowded library, but we have a better option!

From Monday October 20th until Friday evening November 7th you will be able to study in MF3.101, MF3.102, MF3.103, MF3.104 and MF3.105!

Zet koers naar een groots avontuur op de serene wateren van Loosdrecht, waar de wind ons zal leiden en de zeilen onze vleugels zullen zijn. Stap aan boord van de vertrouwde polyvalk, een stevig schip geschikt voor zowel ervaren zeilers als enthousiaste nieuwkomers. Met plek voor vijf opvarenden per boot is er genoeg ruimte voor iedereen, of je nu aan het roer wilt staan of gewoon wilt ontspannen en genieten van de dag.

Met meerdere ervaren zeilers aan boord ben je gedurende de hele tocht in goede handen. Of je nu een doorgewinterde zeiler bent of compleet nieuw op het water, geen zorgen, wij begeleiden je bij elke stap. Je hebt de vrijheid om actief mee te doen of juist lekker achterover te leunen. Als het weer ons gunstig gezind is, kun je een verfrissende duik in het meer nemen of gewoon genieten van de tocht vanuit de comfortabele boot. En geen zorgen, als zwemmen niets voor jou is, kun je droog blijven en toch volop genieten van het avontuur!

Rond lunchtijd zetten we koers naar een charmant eiland voor een welverdiende pauze. Stel je voor: je stapt aan land, de zon straalt, omringd door de rust van de natuur. We ontspannen, delen verhalen en genieten van elkaars gezelschap terwijl we tijdens de lunch de prachtige omgeving in ons opnemen.

Er is geen eerdere zeilervaring nodig om mee te doen. Het draait allemaal om plezier maken op het water, ongeacht je vaardigheidsniveau. Dus verzamel je vrienden, breng je gevoel voor avontuur mee en bereid je voor op een onvergetelijke dag!

We regelen het vervoer en als we genoeg auto's bij elkaar krijgen, rijden we samen naar Loosdrecht. Anders nemen we het openbaar vervoer en maken we van de reis zelf een deel van het avontuur.

We hebben slechts plek voor 20 matrozen, dus wees er snel bij!

Throughout your academic career, you will need to use LaTeX many many times. Now, there are two paths you can take; get to know LaTeX, fall in love, get married, and live happily together throughout your studies. Or, refuse to use LaTeX until you are forced to, at which point you will be confused, disoriented, and frustrated with it. I think we both know which of those two options is preferable.

As a mathematics student, you will need to use LaTeX already in the first quartile, but computer science students will have to use it as well later this year. To prepare you properly for this, TRAIN is organizing a LaTeX training, during which you will be guided through the basics of how to use it for your homework assignments. **All you need to bring is your laptop!**

The Carnavals Committee is looking for a Carnaval name for GEWIS, and we need your help!

In the Netherlands, most cities that celebrate Carnaval take on a different name during this festive time. All of a sudden, we don’t talk about getting a Schrobbelèr shot in Tilburg — no, no, we get one in Kruikenstad! The stropdassenkroegentocht is not a thing in Eindhoven it is a big thing in Lampegat! You don’t celebrate vastenavend in Bergen op Zoom, we go to Krabbegat! Ever seen the parade in Breda, Den Bosch, Maastricht, or Sittard? Never! Maybe in Kielegat, Oeteldonk, Mestreech, or Zitterd though!

Even smaller towns have their own funny names, like Klompengat, Ganzegat, Toeterland, Kattegat, Narregat, Kakkersgat, Theebuikenland, Bommeldurp, Dwèrsklippelgat, Kaaiendonk… and we could go on and on, but we’ll spare you :)

So, as the CC, of course we want to have a beer at “GEWIS,” but it would be so much more fun to have lots of beers at... ???

October is Hacktoberfest, and GEWIS is joining the global celebration of open source! Throughout the entire month, we invite all members, especially first-years, to dive into the world of open source software and contribute to the projects that power our association.

Hacktoberfest is a worldwide event that encourages people to learn, collaborate, and give back to the open source community. At GEWIS, the ABC manages the software that keeps our association running smoothly. This month, we are opening up our projects to anyone eager to learn new skills, write some code, and make meaningful contributions.

You can participate at any time during October. Whether you want to fix a small issue, improve documentation, or add a new feature, there’s something for everyone. The ABC (and other GEWIS developers) will be available throughout the month to help you get started and guide you through the process.

Are you having a calculus entrance test on September 4th but you are not yet sure where to eat beforehand? No worries! AViCo & BAC organizes the Frietkarborrel, a social drink where you can get yourself some nice chips (French fries) and a snack for dinner such that you don’t have to worry about that yourself.

And the best: if you are a first year you even get one item for free! If you are still hungry after that, it is €2,- per additional snack or portion of fries.

After a hectic introduction week where you have (hopefully) made a lot of new friends it is time to really start your student life. And no student life without studying. However, you might already heard a lot of concepts you have never heard of, like "Canvas", "TE Timetable", "Plan App" or "Osiris". But don’t be afraid! There is no need to worry. Attending this training will teach you all the basics you need to know to survive all the software at the TU/e.

In case there are more then 70 people that want to attend, there will be a "first come, first serve" policy. In that case the remainder can view the session online.

De eerste krantenberichten over vorst en verkleurde bladeren vallen op de deurmat. Er komt een nieuw seizoen aan. In de weides klinken de eerste geluiden van hertjes in hun bronstijd. Het nieuwe jachtseizoen is daar. 

Traditiegetrouw nodigt Hèt Dispuut "In Vino Veritas" u uit voor haar Maand'lijksche borrel ter opening van het academisch jaar. Zoals gewend zal de wijn onze dorst stillen tijdens intellectuele discussies die de norm zijn onder Hèt Dispuut. Dit jaar is echter extra speciaal! Voor In Vino Veritas staat dit academisch jaar namelijk in het teken van de jacht. 

Het jagen op hertjes is een kunst die niet voor ieder is weggelegd. Echter, wij als ervaringsdeskundigen zullen u deze borrel, dit fenomeen, haarfijn uitleggen. Wij nodigen u uit om ons op 1 september om 17:00 te vergezellen. Wij zullen voor een borrelkaart, hapjes en uiteraard wijn zorgen.

Beste GEWIS'ers,

Terwijl velen onder ons genieten van een welverdiende vakantie en de zomer zich van haar beste kant laat zien, is het ook weer tijd voor een vertrouwd fenomeen: het jaarlijkse “Spel met Ballen”.

Na het succes van vorige editie zal dit evenement wederom gecombineerd worden met een vleugje Maand'lijksche borrel. Zo gaan sportiviteit en bourgondisch genieten hand in hand, met hoge-kwaliteitswijn en heerlijke versnaperingen om bij te komen van de nobele daad van het gooien van ballen.

Je kunt je samen met een partner inschrijven om mee te doen met het officiële “Spel met Ballen”-toernooi, en tegen andere teams te strijden om kans te maken op de felbegeerde beker. Wees wel alert, de inschrijflijst sluit de zondag voor de activiteit.

Mocht je nu geen zin hebben om mee te doen aan het spel, dan mag je natuurlijk ook gewoon naar het veld te komen om te genieten van de borrel.

Hèt Dispuut “In Vino Veritas”

On the 3rd of July, we will host the inauguration drink for the 44th board of GEWIS! During the inauguration drink, a lot of external associations, the department board, GEWIS bodies and members can come to congratulate the new board. We will celebrate their installation with a night full of free beers and amazing memories.

For the inauguration drink, we do need a lot of volunteers. We have to empty the room, protect the board and guestbook during the drink and bring the board home after the drink. We would like to know whether you are available for any of these tasks. Please note: bringing the board home means you are sober. If you are available, please fill in this form.

The obligatory infomeeting, at which everything about the order committee will be explained, takes place on Thursday June 19th from 12:40 till 13:20. The location will be announced later!

Note that for non-volunteers, the borrel starts around 19:00 (the internal part).
