Every 5 years, GEWIS celebrates the association in the form of a Lustrum year.  As GEWIS will turn 45 years old in the next academic year and therefore the Lustrum is getting closer and closer it will soon be time to announce our theme! But we are not planning to make it easy for you...

In the next three weeks three puzzels will be released every week. The solutions of these puzzels will bring you closer and closer to finding out what the theme will be. The puzzels can be found in the GEWIS room and will be posted on Instagram (@9elustrumgewis) for anyone who feels like taking  on the challenge.

The solutions of the three puzzels of week 1 will all hint towards one unifying answer of week 1.  After three weeks, you will have three unifying answers. These answers then combine to one single final solution, giving you the theme of the 9th Lustrum of GEWIS.

So get those gears turning, don't forget to work together if things become difficult, and most of all good luck!

Ahoy there maties! 

GEZWEM will be having a sailing weekend yet again, this year on the weekend of the 1st of May! We will be charting the wild northern waters of Sneekermeer, in what is known as Dutch-Scandinavia or Fryslân.

The weekend will be filled with amazing adventures, sailing the seas to new lands, finding treasure in authentic brown pubs, and sharing stories, laughter, and rum between our tents.

For a fair price, we will organize a ship with a crew, quarters (bring your own tent), sustenance, and drink for you to stay and enjoy the riches of the GEZWEM sailing weekend (note that transport is not included in the price).

So join us in this wonderful weekend and endanger the waters of Fryslân during the day, and the brownest of pubs at night. No sailing experience required!!

Join us on May 2nd Saturday on the First Year Students Coding Competition! Upper years can also sign up, just that first years will be prioritized.

You’ll have:

  Coding tasks that are fun to do for first year students.  Free lunch, big snack stock, and of course drinks.  A borrel after.

Whether you enjoy coding or just survived by skipping the assembly in Computer Systems, we have something for you and your team of 3!

Practical information:

  The competition is intended for groups of three, you can sign up as a group of two, but groups of three have priority.  The competition is intended for the first years. However, you are still allowed to participate as a higher year.

The Batavierenrace is back!

The next edition of the world's largest relay race is scheduled to take place over the weekend between May 9th and 11th, 2026. We will start in the centre of Nijmegen and run 175km, split up into 25 parts, to the campus of the University of Twente in Enschede. The race begins on Friday evening and will finish in the afternoon on Saturday, meaning we will run through the night. 

Throughout the weekend, we’ll be camping on the University of Twente campus alongside hundreds of students from across the Netherlands (bring your own tent). The race is divided into three “shifts”: night, morning, and afternoon. The night shift will travel to Nijmegen for the start, while the morning and afternoon shifts will head to Enschede and be transported by bus to their respective starting points.

And while the race itself is unforgettable, that’s not all; this weekend also hosts the biggest student party in Europe, an experience you definitely won’t want to miss.

It will be possible for participants to buy a sports shirt for +/- €15, but this is optional.  

We are still looking for a sponsor, so the price might still decrease.

While the world does not get much more beautiful than Eindhoven, sometimes you get the urge to go out there and discover the world. Shortly after that, you often realise that travelling is expensive and cancel your plans. But what if I were to tell you that we have found a solution for this exact problem? Go hitchhiking with a buddy; this is a cheap way to travel and a great way to meet interesting people.

But what if I told you that we have found a way to make hitchhiking even more fun? By turning it into a competition, you can win the right to brag to your friends about this. You can even do some challenges along the way to improve your final time.

On the first day, you and your buddy will travel to the capital city of Luxembourg, which is, coincidentally, also called Luxembourg. After getting some well-deserved sleep there, on the next day, you will make your way to one of the biggest cities in Belgium, Antwerp. We also have a fun activity planned for Friday evening in Antwerp. There will, of course, be plenty of time to discover the city before we make our way back to Eindhoven on Saturday evening.

For the low, low price of € 45, or a bit more if you have already graduated, you will receive the following: An overnight stay in both cities, a trip back to Eindhoven, and everything you need to hitchhike.

To ensure that everyone has the required skills to make it to the destinations, we will organise an information session before the weekend to provide all participants with some general information and helpful tips.

If there are more than 15 duos within 24 hours, a draw will be held. After this, the subscription will be "first-come, first-served". Do make sure to subscribe, since there will be a waiting list!

The CPPS track of the Honors Academy and GEWIS proudly present the third edition of ADHOC – Algorithm Engineering Contest, a heuristic optimization battle designed to test your real-world problem-solving skills.

Unlike traditional programming contests where speed and clever tricks dominate, ADHOC focuses on something different: engineering strong solutions under real constraints. This is not about finding the answer. It’s about building better answers.

You will face one open-ended optimization problem based on a realistic scenario. The twist? The problem is computationally intractable - an exact solution within reasonable time simply does not exist. Instead, your mission is to design intelligent heuristics that push your solution closer to the optimum. You start at infinity - the lower your score, the better. When time runs out, the team with the lowest total score takes the win.

You will have 4 hours to battle multiple instances of the problem. Teams may consist of two up to three participants. Bring your laptops, your sharpest ideas, and your most trusted collaborators. 

The programming languages supported are Java, Python and C++. You are free to use any open-source tools and libraries. Just like in real engineering practice, you choose your own strategy.  However, paid services, cloud computing platforms, or external compute power are not allowed - we keep the competition fair (no supercomputers 😉).

During the contest, we provide free lunch and snacks. Afterwards, we reveal the leaderboard, break down solution strategies, and award the winning team. There will of course be time to celebrate once the dust has settled.

If you love algorithms, optimization, AI, or simply tackling problems that refuse to be solved easily - ADHOC is for you.

Note: there is a maximum capacity of 25 teams. If more than 25 teams subscribe, a prioritization is given to full teams (consisting of 3 participants).

Zoals velen weten, een lustrumweek van B.O.O.M. zou niet een lustrumweek van B.O.O.M. zijn zonder een gezonde hoeveelheid bier. En wat kan er beter zijn dan dit te doen met een Centurion? De Totale Escalatie Centurions van de Gebroeders Scooter zijn inmiddels bekend, maar er is een nieuwe uitdaging...

Ben jij er klaar voor om de 100 gongen te verslaan van de B.O.O.M.turion? Kan jij de 100 minuten overleven waar anderen bezweken zijn? Of misschien, ben jij degene die kan drinken niet bij elke gong, maar bij elke "B.O.O.M." in de tekst? Dan is dit de activiteit voor jou! De BAC regelt het bier en B.O.O.M. zorgt voor een nieuwe innovatieve mix. Dus, ga de uitdaging aan! Bereid je voor op op een avond vol met gelach, muziek, shotjes bier en veel pleizer.

Naast deze uitdaging is er ook de kans om de unieke B.O.O.M. lustrum shotglazen in handen te krijgen, voor maar €3,50 extra! Er is hier een aparte inschrijflijst voor, omdat deze eerder gehaald moeten worden.

Er is plek voor 30 personen, maar hier kan verandering in komen als er genoeg vraag naar is. Als de activiteit vol is binnen een uur na de opening, is er een loting.

Ook zullen er via Sudosos lekker drankjes beschikbaar zijn. De activiteit begint om 16:00 omdat voor dat je op een kampvuur kunt koken, dit kampvuur natuurlijk aangemaakt moet worden. Lukt 16:00 nou niet maar kun je er wel om 17:00 zijn? Geef dat dan aan in de aanmelding. We hebben een capaciteit van 25 deelnemers op first come first serve basis. Voor allergieën zullen we in overleg kijken wat we kunnen doen, kruisbesmetting is iets waar we echter geen rekening mee kunnen houden.

Heyo beste borrelaars!

In welk seizoen borrelen jullie het liefst? In de zomer, met een ijskoud zomers biertje of frisje in de zon? In de winter, met een dampende mok glühwein of warme choco? In de herfst met een boswandeling? Of in de lente, met een frisse cocktail of mocktail in je hand?

Kun je niet kiezen? Wij ook niet! Daarom halen we dit lustrum álle seizoenen uit de kast. Tijdens deze borrel geniet je van de lekkerste seizoensdrankjes, gewoon onder het genot van een lentezonnetje. En voor de liefhebbers die elk seizoen trouw blijven aan hun goudgele rakker: natuurlijk vloeit het bier ook rijkelijk!

Daarnaast nemen we je mee langs een aantal van de mooiste tradities/activiteiten van B.O.O.M.. Pak je campingstoeltje erbij voor een plekje in 'de rivier' (lees: zwembad) of zak onderuit in onze buitenbioscoop. En voor de sportievelingen; Leef je uit op het volleybalveld of ga een stukje kanoën (let op: neem wel je eigen kano mee!). En natuurlijk, je raadt het al: de barbecue zal ook zeker aanwezig zijn!

TLDR: Borrel, BBQ, ik zeg nog niet wat we gaan doen, maar neem je zwemkleding mee.

De wereld staat in de fik, boodschappen zijn duurder dan je studiepunten en het Nederlandse weer heeft ook geen idee meer welk seizoen het is.

Daarom doen wij het gewoon zelf: één avond, vier seizoenen. En waarschijnlijk ook vier stadia van dronkenschap.

Want Dispuut B.O.O.M. bestaat 20 jaar en dat laten we natuurlijk niet stilletjes voorbijgaan. De laatste week van mei staat volledig in het teken van het 4e Lustrum, met als knallende afsluiter op vrijdag 29 mei: het Lustrum Gala.

Een gala? Binnen? Nee natuurlijk niet! Trek je laarzen maar uit de kast want speciaal voor alle buitenliefhebbers hebben we een prachtige buitenlocatie weten te regelen.  

Heb je geen laarzen? Schrijf je dan in op de interesselijst voor LIMITED EDITION B.O.O.M.-proof laarzen. Over de exacte prijs nemen we later nog contact met je op.

Het thema is 4 seizoenen, dus verwacht frisse outfits, zweten op de dansvloer, drankjes (of jezelf) die hard vallen en eindigen in een soort winterslaap.

Wil je liever samen in plaats van alleen genieten van een feestelijk bandje, fanstische DJ's en veel drank? In GEWIS kun je groen briefpapier vinden om je favoriete persoon mee te vragen. 

Iedereen is welkom, ook niet GEWIS-leden. Zij kunnen zich zelf inschrijven maar je kan ook aangeven dat jij voor diegene betaald, dan is dat niet nodig.

Math Roulette is a fast-paced math competition. You participate in teams of at most 3 people. It consists of 12 rounds with 1 minute to solve 1 problem and decide how many points you want to bet on it. If it is correct, the bet is added to your score, and if not - it is lost. We will be updating the temporary results of all teams on a board after each round to help you with betting strategies.

There are also a few additional rules that make it even more thrilling, but we will explain them at the beginning of the competition.

This lecture will give a glimpse into mathematical problems that arise when trying to squeeze every last nanometer out of ASML's lithography systems.

Heb jij zin om je weekend door te brengen in de mooie natuur en niet bang om uitgedaagd te worden door avontuurlijke activiteiten, of misschien gewoon op zoek naar een plek om te genieten van een warm kampvuur de hele nacht door, of gewoon geïnteresseerd in beide? Twijfel dan niet langer en maak jezelf gereed voor B.O.O.M. Actief Weekend 2026!

Dit jaar, zullen we de Duitse Eifel bezoeken. Hier hebben wij wat avontuurlijke activiteiten voor jullie georganiseerd, op zowel de zaterdag als de zondag. We gaan nog niets verklappen, maar voorbeelden van vorige jaren zijn klimmen, mountainbiken en kanoën.    Naast dit is er nog veel meer om van te genieten gedurende het weekend, je kunt bijvoorbeeld gaan “streamen” in de rivier (vraag B.O.O.M. leden om meer info) en in de avond zal er een kampvuur zijn om je warm te houden, en omdat we op een camping zitten zullen we in tenten slapen.

Je hoeft niet je eigen eten en drinken mee te nemen, omdat dit allemaal inclusief is gedurende het weekend! Op vrijdag zul je de kans krijgen om Sako zijn beroemde pasta salade te proeven, en op zaterdag zullen we van een heerlijke BBQ genieten, en we zullen natuurlijk genoeg bier en fris regelen (en koffie voor de zware ochtenden).

Het weekend zal plaatsvinden van 5 tot 7 juni 2026, als je wilt meegaan schrijf je dan hieronder in.   Omdat we genoeg autos nodig hebben om iedereen naar Duitsland te rijden, krijgen mensen met auto voorrang indien nodig. Dit jaar wordt alleen de benzine vergoed, dus zorg ervoor dat je met een voole tank begint en eindigt! Als je een auto beschikbaar hebt, geef dat dan aan en zet erbij hoeveel plaatsen (inclusief jezelf) je hebt in de auto. We willen ook graag weten of je een tent hebt. We gaan geen groepjes maken maar het kan helpen om anderen een slaapplek te laten vinden :)  

We hebben plek om 40 studenten mee te nemen op ons toffe weekend, dus schrijf je zo snel mogelijk in, first come first serve! Als er veel interesse is, kunnen we misschien opschalen, maar we kunnen nog niets beloven!

Nieuwsgierig naar blockchain, maar weet je niet waar je moet beginnen?

In deze interactieve sessie geven we je een korte introductie in wat blockchain is, waar het voor gebruikt kan worden en, het belangrijkste, wat je er daadwerkelijk mee kunt bouwen.

Daarna ga je zelf aan de slag. We helpen je een probleem te vinden dat jij belangrijk vindt en onderzoeken hoe blockchain kan helpen om dit op te lossen. Je hebt geen ervaring nodig, alleen nieuwsgierigheid.

Aan het einde van de sessie kun je jouw idee pitchen en maak je kans op een prijzenpot van $1000,  waarmee je jouw eerste blockchain-idee kunt omzetten in je eerste kans om geld te verdienen in de web3 industrie.
