Founded in 1996 in Amsterdam, Booking.com has grown from a small Dutch startup to one of the world’s leading digital travel companies. By investing in the technology that helps take the friction out of travel, Booking.com seamlessly connects millions of travellers with memorable experiences, a range of transport options and incredible places to stay – from homes to hotels and much more. Nick Randall will give a lecture about building the Booking.com mobile app to serve 100 million+ users each month. In his talk he will look at how dozens of product teams are enabled to constantly improve the Booking.com iOS and Android apps. He'll also cover general topics from how teams are structured, how they decide what features to build, and how they measure the benefit those features provide (A/B testing). On the tech side, he will go over the development workflow Booking.com uses and the challenges they face with many people contributing to a single large app codebase. Hi there culinary geniuses, Do you like cooking or do you just like eating? Well, GETAART got you covered by organizing a dinner roulette. You can sign up with a partner and experience exquisite dishes prepared by two other pairs and yourself. The idea of a dinner roulette is that you will create one dish (appetizer, main dish, or dessert) together with your partner and organize a place to serve it (yours or your partner's place). Please enter your preference for the course you would like to cook in the subscription form. You will serve this dish to your partner, two other pairs, and yourself. The other courses will be taken care of by the other pairs. By the end of the evening, you would have had a three-course meal at three different locations and only made one of those courses yourself. What a bargain, right? What's more, you will only need to pay a measly 6 euros for this entire feast! The cooking costs for the appetizer can be declared up to €20, the main course up to €30, and the dessert up to €20 (so €70 in total for all cooking costs). You will also mix and mingle with a lot of people throughout the night and experience the genius culinary creations of others. To make sure that the travel time is not too long between your courses please let us know where you are planning to serve your dish by email (getaart@gewis.nl) after you have subscribed. The information will only be communicated to members of GETAART, it will only be used for the schedule, and of course all the information on locations will be deleted afterward.

Dear student, Coming 30th November the 2022 Edition of the SNiC Congress - CelerIT will take place in the Parktheater in Eindhoven. First, for those of you that aren’t all too familiar, a little more about the SNiC Congress: The SNIC congress itself takes place yearly in November, in a different city every year. It attracts hundreds of students from all throughout the country. It’s a single-day event where lots of speakers come and give an interesting talk about state-of-the-art technology or practices in the aforementioned fields. Not only is the day filled with exciting presentations about innovation, during the breaks and after the event you’re also able to have a chat with  any of the participating companies of the congress. They can tell you a lot about career-related questions and projects that their companies are currently working on related to the themes of the congress. Now for what makes this year’s edition special. As it may not be very obvious, CelerIT (pronounced Celer - IT)  is a play on the word Celerity, which in turn is not a very common word. The word can be described as meaning the swiftness of motion. We have chosen to translate this definition into an interpretation that is applicable to our field of science. Our congress will be all about the bigger picture of how fast technology has been, and still is, evolving. In other words, the swiftness of the rise and fall of technological developments in these fields, where we look both at what has been, the present and what’s still to come. Now on to mention a few names that will be presenting on CelerIT! One of our speakers, Philippe Schoonejans, is a project manager at human and robotic exploration for ESA (the European Space Agency). After decades of experience he is currently helping develop a space arm for sampling material from Mars. Another innovative researcher, Amanda Prorok, works in the field of multi-agent and multi-robot systems. Her lab’s research team focuses on finding new ways to coordinate artificially intelligent agents. This involves a very methodological approach to solving many-faceted logistical challenges and has numerous applications to real world systems. You may have heard of a YouTube channel by the name of 3Blue1Brown. They explore challenging (sometimes mind-boggling) problems in mathematics and adjacent fields and present them in a format such that they can be comprehended with little to no prior knowledge while still diving deep into their complexity in a very enticing presenting style. TL;DR Join us on the 30th of November in Eindhoven for an inspiring and engaging congress featuring innovative talks about computer science, company contact and discussion panels; lunch, borrel and dinner included! You can follow us on snic_celerit on Instagram for updates and check out the CelerIT website for more information! For only €7,- you can join this event. This includes lunch, dinner and drinks during the day. There are only 80 tickets available. If there are more subscriptions than tickets at 26 September 12.00 there will be a draw among everyone who is subscribed at that moment. After that the tickets will be handed out on a first come, first serve bases. After that people will be put on a waiting list. Your name and e-mail address will be shared with Stichting Nationaal Informatica Congres. They will process this data in accordance with their privacy policy. Students will receive 3 MyFuture points for participation in this activity. Please bring your campus card.

Temperatures are dropping and the B.O.O.M.en are losing their leaves (except for Ruben, he is somehow still collecting more leaves). Usually this is the time of year during which we tell you to stop whining about the cold and just keep going outside, but we decided to make an exception. Note: We will still force you to borrel outside during the B^x borrel, but more info on that later. As fun as climbing actual B.O.O.M.en might be, for this activity we will be conquering the indoor climbing walls of Neoliet! Additionally, we will also explore some indoor 'speleo' tunnels in which you can both prove your dexterity and unleash your inner child without being judged*. We know that the inflation has not been kind to us this year (classic 'pechgeneratie'), so we got you covered! For the low cost of €10 for sjaarzen, €20 for studying members, or €35 for ouwelullen, you will get all of the following: Climbing gear rental Climbing instructions and supervision 2,5 hour program consisting of a climbing part and a 'speleo' part Coffee and tea The program is suited for both beginners and more experienced climbers (or beginners with a lot of confidence), so everybody can sign up! Please be aware that this activity begins at 16:00 and may thus clash with your lectures. Also note that there is a maximum of 45 participants. *B.O.O.M. and her members do not guarantee not to make fun of participants

Dear members of GEWIS, Last GMM, there was a discussion about how GEWIS could best tackle problems involving the retainment of active members. Hence, there will be a brainstorm about this topic. We will talk about what options there are and which of those would be realistic and feasible during this brainstorm, with FREE lunch! The problem: During the last few years, COVID had quite an impact on the influx of active members. This puts more pressure on the active members we have and in order to keep them working on all the fun and projects that are going on, we might need to change something within the association. At this moment, but this has been a reoccurring topic over the past years, there are members that not feel valued enough and would like to see more appreciation for their work from time to time. Possible solutions: During the GMM, there was a discussion about making a new post on the budget focused on "retainment active members". The goal of this brainstorm is thinking about how this could be best implemented. These ideas were discussed before: The board is totally free in giving something to a group as sign of appreciation. There will be no strict policy and each board can see for themselves how they want to spend it. Organs can hand in a budget to ask for some money, for example if they want lunch during a working moment. Every organ of GEWIS has a standard budget per year that they can spend, this can be either lunch, or a group bonding activity If you have a totally different solution, or any additional ideas, feel free to send an email to cib@gewis.nl and it will be added to the agenda. At the end of the meeting, we will decide what would be the best way to proceed. Please subscribe if you want to join the meeting so you can receive any additional documents and to get free lunch. If you are not subscribed, you can still join the meeting but there will not be lunch for you. Love, The 41st board of GEWIS.

The time has come to find out who the best first year committee is! Or will it be some of the seniors this year? To figure this out, you will go head to head with your committee members against the other groups in a number of games and challenges. For these games you will need speed, agility and/or trust in your teammates. During these short intensive games you can show what a GEWIS-member is capable of. Each round, the winner scores a point, so at the end of the evening, we will know who the best is, for once and for all. So get your committee clothing ready, and join us on Friday during this fun night of games.

The Multi Annual Strategic Vision is a document that states the strategy, vision, wishes and goals for GEWIS over multiple years. Almost four years ago, in May 2019, the MASV document was created and presented at AV169. Back then, it was suggested by the Task Force that every four years an extensive revision of this strategic vision is desirable. This brainstorm evening is held to discuss whether rewriting the MASV is necessary. Moreover, a discussion will be held about a possible action plan on how the revision can be done. Before brainstorming, dinner will be provided by the board. The only thing necessary to attend this session is to have read the MASV document. The document can be found here. If you want to have dinner, please subscribe via the sign-up list. If you do not sign-up you are also welcome to join the brainstorm! However, then we will not have dinner for you.

Did you know that the BAC (BAr Committee) is turning 25 this academic year? And that the BAC (Bijzondere Activiteiten Commissie) is even older? This means that we will be celebrating our fifth en seventh Lustrum at the same time! Most activities will likely take place in May (more on this later). However, we are planning to kick off our Lustrum year with a legendary weekend full of BAC related activities (we’re gonna drink beer, duh). The weekend will take place in the marvelous city of Antwerpen, Belgium. We have put together a filled (but not too busy) schedule, full with activities that every beer-enthusiast is sure to enjoy. During the weekend, we will stay in a hostel in the middle of the beautiful historical city center. On Friday, we have organized a delicious 2-course dinner where you can enjoy one of the 366 Belgian craft beers that are served. After the dinner, you are free to explore Antwerpen (and its nightlife) some more. On Saturday afternoon, we will have a tour of a real Belgian brewery! 2 beers are included in this tour, such that we can enjoy the tour even more. After the tour, we will make the streets of Antwerpen unsafe (in a safe way) on 2 beer bicycles, that we are free to use for 2 hours. Of course, beer is included, as is the BOB (designated driver), such that we can all enjoy some beers while on the road. What you want to do for the rest of the weekend is yours to decide, but it is likely that beer will still be involved in some way. The weekend will only cost you €65 if you are a student and €115 otherwise. Transport, stay in the hostel, dinner for one night, the tour of the brewery and the beer bicycles are included in this price. We can only take 32 people with us, so make sure to subscribe fast! The subscription list opens Friday the 23rd of September at 12:00, if it is full before 17:00 there will be a draw, afterwards it is first come, first serve. Note that students have priority over burgers, as have people with cars. Note: due to university regulations, freshmen are not allowed to join on a international trip.

It is widely known that in the time of the gladiators the "Gebroeders Scooter Totale Escalatie Centurion" was used to give rise to the strongest of warriors ever to walk on the face of the earth. However, it has been mentioned in the sacred texts that there was a ritual, a pathway, which if one would walk down that road they would become the ruler of Rome. Since then Rome is not quite wat it used to be, but the ritual still persists. The texts were simple; for one to become the ultimate gladiator they would not only have to defeat the "Gebroeders Scooter Totale Escalatie Centurion" part 1 but also the "Gebroeders Scooter Totale Escalatie Centurion 2.0"! We would like to invite the few fools brave enough to walk down this road to join us. There will be new and special light effects provided by AViCo, there will be defeat and there must be victors. Rise up to the challenge! Raise your shot glass and do your best! The planning will be to start part one at 17:30 and after 100 minutes we will have a 70 minute break to eat some food from the AMON (dinner list below). After you have restored your inner strength we will continue with part two and see who will survive. Note: we will use flashing lights/strobes during this activity. Furthermore, food from AMON is at your own expense.

Hello lovely members of GEWIS! As most of you probably already guessed, the BAC will organize their classic MAVO borrel again on the last Thursday of the exam weeks. These borrels are well known among the older GEWIS members and in case you don't have an exam on Thursday evening or Friday, I would definitely advise you to come visit as well. Unfortunately, also borrels end, and even more unfortunate, also hangovers can start to form. But no worries, the 41st board got your back! We will provide a delicious hangover breakfast on the day after the MAVO borrel. Hope to see you then! Love, The 41st board

Note: this activity has been cancelled! We hear all about it in the news. The receptions of asylum seekers are overcrowded. New locations (such as cruise ships) are being converted to shelter asylum seekers. You can imagine that in times of war (Ukraine) and the continuous flow of specific refugees (Syrians) the influx of asylum seekers continues. In combination with staff shortages at the Dutch Immigration Service (IND) this causes major problems. The IND assesses all applications from foreign nationals who want to live in the Netherlands or want to become Dutch citizens. We help the IND with a better planning process within the complex migration chain by providing a custom software solution. We need your help for this case! In recent years, the large number of applications has resulted in a backlog of thousands of asylum applications. . This is troublesome for both; the asylum seekers who are waiting for their application review, as well as for the Dutch Immigration Service, that have to pay penalties for long asylum processes. With your team you will help the IND by efficiently reducing the backlog of thousands of asylum applications. For the best solutions you have to take different dependencies into account such as availability of employees, competence (languages) of employees, nationality of refugees, penalties of refugees and of course ethical decisions. Which group will manage to get to the lowest penalty fee, while taking ethics into account? Please bring your own laptop for this case. This case will be most interesting for mathematics students. After the business case there will be a drink afterwards on costs of GEWIS! You get 1 MyFuture point for attending this activity!

Sioux Technologies has all the expertise in-house to contribute to the success of high-tech products and production systems. Sioux's strength lies in its unique combination of high-quality competences in software, mathware, mechatronics, electronics and assembly. With more than 800 engineers, Sioux supports or acts as the R&D department of leading high-tech companies. Sioux likes to take responsibility: from thinking along in the concept phase to supplying series production. Together with its customers, Sioux wants to add value and build innovative solutions that can contribute to a society that is smarter, safer, healthier, more pleasant and sustainable. The power of code generation. Reading code is much more complex than writing code. Yet, a line of code is read more often than it is being written. That's why we need to write a lot of documentation to explain what our code does, and how it works. But now we are writing the same thing twice! Wouldn't it be nicer to write the documentation once, and generate the source code from that? And that's precisely what we've done with SuperModels, an in-house developed application that is capable of performing Model Driven Engineering. We can create models representing how a piece of software or a machine works. From these models, we can generate (part of) the source code. But it doesn't stop there, because once you have the power of generators, why not generate more artifacts such as installers, configuration files, (REST) interfaces? Or even better, somehow clone the physical machine itself? Come, see and listen what power Model Driven Engineering has, and how it might affect your vision of what a programming language is. Casper Smits has been with Sioux for a little more than a year. He joined directly after completing his MSc in Computer Science and Engineering at the TU/e. Being skeptical at first, by witnessing the power of Model Driven Engineering first-hand, he is now a big advocate, and one of the main contributors to the in-house SuperModels toolchain. Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory!

Besides doing your homework, or writing essays, LaTeX has much more to provide. The program can handle more than just some images, tables or equations, and if you think you can too, then we have just the opportunity for you. Next to the beginners training of October 5th, Gijs will also be giving an advanced training! You will learn how to spruce up your files with headers and footers, learn how to make nice graphs using tikz, write down your algorithms clearly, and more! But why stop there? At this training you will also get a familiarity with creating your own class, or even your own packages. There will be exercises too, of course. So you can put your newly learned skills to the test immediately. And it wouldn't be a TRAIN activity if we didn't provide some healthy snacks! We hope to see you there! Choo choo, TRAIN

You might already know that shortly after the summer break, the AMSL Marathon Eindhoven is taking place. It's held on October 9 and as a committee very interested in running, we would like to encourage you to join! Of course, we're not asking you to run the full marathon, if that's a bit too much for you. The whole marathon 'event' is comprised of different categories: Marathon (42.195 km) Half Marathon (21,1 km) 1/4 Marathon (10,55 km) City Run (5 km) There are some other special categories. If you're interested, you can find those on the official website. If you are running in one of these categories and are also interested in having training sessions organized by us, please let us know here (note that you will have to subscribe yourself). If there is enough demand, we might just get working on that! Additionally, if you do not want to have training sessions with us, you can still let us know you are running in the event here, since we would also like to organize some activity around the marathon (like a group lunch or borrel).

Donald Knuth is a smart man with ideas. If smart people have ideas, they write books about it. But Donald was fed up with the available text processing software for writing books, so he wrote his own. This became LaTeX. Nowadays, LaTeX is the de facto standard in scientific text processing. It has built-in support for all sorts of mathematical characters, it can be used for lots of things, like homework, presentations and resumes and it makes your life a lot easier. As a mathematician you will first use LaTeX in Q1 during the Linear Algebra 1 course, as a computer scientist, you will use it during Data Structures in Q3. Because LaTeX is an invaluable skill when you are studying Mathematics or Computer Science, TRAIN is offering a LaTeX-training! The training will be given by our very own Gijs de Man, we will provide some snacks and drinks while diving into the world of scientific test processing. The beginners training will take place on campus, Wednesday October 5th in the evening. There are around 70 places, so be on time. There will also be an advanced training one week later, more information about this will follow soon. Choo Choo, TRAIN

Fighting human trafficking with cryptography Today's society is powered by data. As more parts of our lives are digitized, how do we ensure the proper use of our data? Meet the cryptographic technique called Multi-Party Computation (MPC). In this presentation we will explain the basic concepts behind this method and discuss applications. As an example use case, we helped a group of NGOs and government agencies to share data in a privacy-preserving manner such that they could fight human trafficking without sacrificing the privacy of victims. Roseman Labs is a fast-growing Dutch start-up that builds innovative privacy technology. Our products allow customers to perform data analyses across multiple parties without needing to expose the underlying data. Interested? Visit rosemanlabs.com. A long time ago, when Défi was still a fraternity in foundation, we organized an Evening Eating Experience - Dining in the Dark. Due to the success and years passed, we figured it was time for such an activity again! Now, we are back with a new edition of this unique eating experience. This edition will include even more strange, but surprisingly delicious, foods and drinks. Some of the rounds will be blindfolded taste tests, where during others you will try to guess ingredients. As we do not want to push your boundaries too much, you do not have to worry about eating bugs. All dishes will be vegetarian. The activity will start at 18:00 and end at approximately 22:00. There is no need to eat any dinner beforehand. We have made sure that you will get enough food such that you will be filled at the end of the evening. Joining the EEE costs 9 euros, for freshmen the costs are reduced to 5 euros. Be quick to subscribe as there are only 30 spots available! With love, Défi

Do you ever stop to think about the evolution of (web) development? And what impact it will have on your (future) career? For example, this might be: How (web) development isn’t just about code. Today design, UX and marketing are part of every project. How a single developer used to work on a project and now everything comes from multidisciplinary teams. How more and more platforms are moving from monolithic architecture to headless. How we shifted from our own servers and machines to cloud and DevOps. Curious to know what all these changes will mean for you? During the session, Software Architect and Developer Advocate Lucien Immink will tell you about how (web) development has changed over the years and the infinite opportunities the future holds for you.

    Useful for first year students

Hi first-year students! This Monday, all First Year Committees will be formed! If you would like to join one, please come to MetaForum room 7 on Monday 26th during the break. Every first-year student is welcome! There was an information meeting last week about FYCs, it doesn't matter if you did not join that meeting. Here is some information about these committees but feel free to send me an email (cib@gewis.nl) or find me in the GEWIS room if you want to know more. What is a (first year) committee? An FYC is a committee specially designed for first year students. This means that the workload is low, it focuses on having fun, and you can decide yourself how active you would like to be. A committee is basically a group of people who work on a certain subject together. They meet regularly and members of the committee have different tasks/functions. An FYC always has: A chair. He or she is the person who leads the meetings and makes sure people do their job on time A secretary. This person is responsible for all incoming (e)mail and responds to it, and writing pieces for other parties (think about the GEWIS Instagram account, yearbook, or our own newspaper) A treasurer. With this function, you are responsible for the money. You are the one who makes a budget if needed and collects all the receipts of the costs that were made (for instance for an activity). All extra functions you can come up with yourself. Some examples from last year are music meister (puts on music during meetings/activities), snack manager (gets snacks for meetings), Insta manager, etc. The idea is that your FYC organizes one activity during this academic year. It is totally up to you what kind of activity this is! We've seen people go sky diving, organize a pub quiz or a chess tournament, or have a karaoke evening in the city. Together with your FYC you can score points things like joining activities, coming to our borrels (social drinks), passing courses, and organizing activities. The FYC with the highest score wins a nice prize at the end of the year! Workload The workload is a bit dependent on what kind of activity you are organizing and how many activities you want to organize. Most FYCs meet once every two weeks, during a break. Experience tells us that this is very achievable next to your bachelor studies! What is in it for you The best thing about FYCs is that you get to know a lot of new people from both Computer Science as well as Mathematics. If you for example did not have a very nice group during introduction week, this is a perfect second chance to literally make friends for life.

The beginning of the academic year always brings a lot of excitement along with it: making new friends, learning about new subject matters, but most importantly the EAPC! Yes, really. The EAPC, Eindhoven Algorithmic Programming Contest, is a yearly programming contest. Here you will solve various programming problems together with 2 teammates (and a trusty, provided cheat sheet). During the day, food and drinks will be provided for you, alongside a laptop. All you have to bring are your best programming abilities! Are you and your teammates up for the challenge? If so, sign up for the event below! :) Note: at most 39 teams can participate. If there are more, teams will be selected based on a first come first served basis.

Do you love geometric figures so much that you want to give it a try in prACtice? It is the AC lustrum, so here is a classic one for you! Wednesday September 21st, you can come pooling with the AC at SPC Woensel! You will share a table with 3 other members (4 people per table). Everyone can pool for two hours for €2,50 (€1,50 for first years), but if you love it so much and want to extend it with an extra hour, you can do so for 10,50 euro per table. The pooling starts at SPC Woensel at 19:00, but if you want to travel together with us, make sure you're at GEWIS at half past six, so we can head to the pool centre by bike or public transport. Of course there is dinner for those who don't like to hit pool balls with an empty stomACh. You can only choose for wok, which will be delivered at GEWIS around 17:45. ExACt prices for the wok can be found at https://soho.foodnu.nl/index.php (at the 'wokgerechten' tab). If your wok is unavailable or does not exist, we'll choose for you! Hugs, The AC

    Career

Students who want to work on solving complex problems in a challenging, competitive, and innovative environment and who want to achieve a leading position in R&D (basic research, applied research, and experimental development) or technological innovation, should consider accelerating their career by continuing their professional development by means of a PhD degree program or a PDEng (Professional Doctorate in Engineering) degree program, in close collaboration with industry. Robin Mennens will provide an interesting presentation on why he decided to go for the 2 year salaried post-master PDEng (EngD) Software Technology program for technological designers with TU/e, give some nice examples of multidisciplinary group training projects and also elaborate on his individual graduation project “The Philips Remote AI Streaming (PRAIS) platform”. His thesis was nominated for TU/e PDEng Thesis Award 2021. Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory!

We would like to give our members the opportunity to get a membership card when they become GEWIS members. They were made every year for new GEWIS members with their name and number on it. You can use this card to join all GEWIS activities and be proud of your membership. Furthermore, you can use the card during the borrels (social drinks) to order drinks. To save the environment, we would like to only print the cards for those who want to have one. If you want to have this reminder of your membership in your wallet, please let us now before the 19th of September whether you would like to receive such a card so we can print them all at the same time.

It's nighttime in Miller's Hollow! Several hidden ACtivities take plACe, some of which will cost lives. You wake up to discover that your neighbor has been murdered, and devoured by werewolves. Can Miller's Hollow unravel the mysteries of the night before the entire town turns into a wolves' meal? Werewolves of Miller's Hollow is a classic AC game night ACtivity. Rumor has it that this is our treasurer's favorite ACtivity. In addition to the classic werewolves game, we will be playing a faster pACed one shot. This one shot is perfect for people who prefer a faster-pACed game, as well as the CAsualties of the classic werewolves game. There is an eating list so you won't be as hungry as the werewolves at night. We are going to order pizzas at Domino's. If you want a pizza, please add your order to the eating list. Of course, there will also be snACks to get you through the evening. All you need to bring is a good mood and friends, because the more, the merrier. See you on the 19th! Hugs, the AC

    Social drink

The first week of the academic year has come to an end. For some, it is an achievement, and for some, it is time for a nice glass of wine. In both cases, it is a moment of celebration. With every extravaganza, it is customary to have a glass of sparkling wine! Our wonderful fraternity, "In Vino Veritas" knows how to celebrate these kinds of moments. As most of the older readers will probably know, I.V.V is known for organizing the Maand'lijsche borrel (month like social drink) and the 16th of September is again a moment to enjoy a good glass of wine or bubbles and celebrate the opening of the academic year! As per usual, this event will take place in the GEWIS room starting from 17:00 until 21:30. During the Maand'lijksche borrel, there will be some small provisions such as toast, cheese, and grapes to enjoy while drinking your wine. You will also find that our fraternity members will be recognizable by their smart outfits and hopefully you can join us in this formal attire. We hope to see you there! If you are already excited and you can not wait to come to our “Maand’lijkse borrel”, then I suggest that you grab a glass and open a bottle of wine to satisfy your thirst for now.

    Useful for first year students

As you might have noticed, GEWIS organizes a lot of different activities, both fun and educational. Different committees and fraternities organize these activities. As first year student, you are also able to become part of such a committee which is called a First Year Committee. These are specially made for first year students and are a great way to make new friends, learn different skills, and mainly have a lot of fun. We know there is a lot expected of you in your first year and the workload can be heavy. We took this into account when we set up these committees, so please don’t be afraid that you have to do a lot of work and have many obligations. It is really about having a nice time:) If you think this might be something for you, or you are still not sure, please subscribe below and I will tell you more about how an FYC works, what the exact workload will be, and you’ll hear some first hand experience from people who have been in a first year committee. NOTE: This is only a sign-up for the info meeting! You are not yet subscribing for a committee itself and can always choose later if you want to join or not.

To start the year off right, GEPWNAGE is organizing one of her classics: Just Dance!* Are you the Dancing Queen that we are looking for with this activity? Then join us on September 13 around 17:30 in the Markthal. Let's (try to) dance on songs ranging from Rasputin to Blinding lights. Steal the dance floor! Become a dance star! Take a break. Show off your dance moves! Beat the high score! Another break. Enjoy some snacks and drinks. Make it a beautiful night with lots of fun! Go home tired and content :) Or Just Crochet, really. A few years ago we learnt you can apparently win while making a scarf! :P P.S.: Arriving late or leaving early is no problem at all! Please do subscribe in that case, to ensure we'll have snacks and drinks waiting for you. Also, the end time is quite flexible; we'll probably just keep playing until everyone is satisfied :3

Are you having a calculus test coming Thursday evening but not yet sure where to eat beforehand or afterward? No worries! AViCo organizes the Frietkarborrel, a social drink where you can get yourself some nice chips (French fries) and a snack for dinner such that you don’t have to worry about that yourself. And the best: if you are a first year you even get it for free! (for the other members we also arranged a nice discount of course). We welcome you all to come somewhere between 16:30 and 20:00 to the Frietkarborrel at the Simon Stevin field (between the Markthall and the pond). Even if you do not have a calculus exam you are welcome to join and get some nice food and a couple of drinks. We hope to see you all there, AViCo

    Useful for first year students

For first year students! After a hectic introduction week where you have (hopefully) made a lot of new friends it is time to really start your student life. And no student life without studying. However, you might already heard a lot of concepts you have never heard of, like "Canvas", "MyTimetable", "Plan App" or "Osiris". But don’t be afraid! There is no need to worry. Attending this training will teach you all the basics you need to know to survive all the software at the TU/e. In case there are more then 135 people that want to attend, there will be a "first come, first serve" policy. You can also attend the training online! Don’t forget to bring your laptop!

On Saturday September 3, 2022, a group of international Erasmus exchange students will arrive on the TU/e campus to have an amazing introduction day! Those international students are staying here for at least half a year, but they have no knowledge about the Netherlands, Eindhoven, or this university. To help those students feel at home, we are organizing this introduction day! Every Erasmus student will be paired up with a student that currently studies here, a buddy. Therefore, we are looking for you! On the 3rd of September you will meet your buddies in real life and you will guide them during the day. During this intro day, you will have the chance to get to know more people and make friends from all over the world. The intro day will be completely free for you and there will lots of fun activities. We won't spoil too much but there definitely will be a city tour and a pubquiz. Please register below to get students assigned! Non-GEWIS members that study at the department of M&CS can also subscribe. Be fast, because there are only a limited number of spots. We hope to see you and your buddy this February.

Dear members, as the exams are getting closer and closer, we are already looking forward to all the nice things to do in the summer holiday. We guess that you are doing the same, being in doubt about which exotic island you will explore and what extravagant festivals you will visit. Well, Défi is here to make that decision a little easier for you because on Saturday the 6th of August, we will go see the Canal Parade in Amsterdam! The Canal Parade will start at 12:30 from the Scheepvaart, so we will gather around 12:00 at Amsterdam Central Station. The exact meeting time will be communicated to all participants later on. The Canal Parade will end at approximately 17:00, however the after parties will have already started by 16:00 so we will go and check some of those out as well. Note that if you want to arrive later or leave earlier, that is fine as well! So if you are straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, curious, asexual, pansexual, gender-non-conforming, gender-fluid, non-binary, androgynous, all of the above or nothing from above, make sure that you subscribe!! Note that the festival is completely free of charge, the only thing you have to pay for (and arrange yourself) is your travel to and from Amsterdam. However, you can get a group retour for approximately 5 euros a person*. So if you are interested in joining with this group deal, you can subscribe with that information and you can form groups yourself to buy this group retour. Additional information on the Canal Parade can be found in this website https://www.amsterdamgaypride.nl/canal_parade/ or by watching last years aftermovie https://youtu.be/uzBkGUMRJOw . We hope to see all of you on the 6th of August!! In case there are any questions or remarks, feel free to contact any member of Défi or mail to defi@gewis.nl ! Hugs from Défi! *There are some terms and conditions regarding the NS group retour including that you have to take the same train as your main traveller and need to have the same destination (starting point does not matter). For all information you can look on the website of the NS: https://www.ns.nl/producten/meest-gekocht/p/groepsticket-daluren

Hi all! Recently, the GEWIS was gifted some monitors. The monitors are older than the monitor the board room uses, so we have decided to give them away. The monitors can be connected using a DVI cable. We will be giving these screens away for free. Since we want to give everybody the same chance of getting a screen, a draw will be held. When you enter the draw, it is expected from you that you are able to pick up a screen before August 8th.

After a year of studying and telling your parents how much you loved your time here, especially the BAC borrels, it is time to let your parents experience the same. On the 14th of July, the BAC will organize the 'Os pa en ma borrel', which is Brabants for 'Dad and mom borrel'. As the name explains, you can bring your parents to enjoy a nice cold Grolsch together with your fellow studymates. Next to that, the BAC will make sure there is some food that your parents can prepare, just like they do at home for you. So invite your parents and have a beer with them!

In the afternoon there is plenty of time to chill on the beach and in the evening from 8pm onwards there will be three different food corners ready for the fully arranged dinner, including dessert and including a late night snack if you get hungry again. A drink arrangement has been arranged with wine, beer, soft drinks and some spirits from 8pm to 1am. What more could you want? Be aware that there are two sign-up lists in separate tabs. The first sign-up list is for the lustrum beach party that will be held in the evening from 8 pm to 1am. You will have to pay 40 euros (70 euros if you are a graduated member). Your ticket includes access to this party and the food and drink arrangement. The second sign-up list is to go to the beach during the day. We will go to Aquabest Beach at 12 o'clock. We hope to see you and all your friends at the Lustrum beach party on July 11. Hope to see you there! With sunny southern greetings, Dispuut GELIMBO and GR8-TIMES Lustrum Committee

On the 7th of July, we will host the inauguration drink for the 41st board of GEWIS! During the inauguration drink, a lot of external associations, the department board, GEWIS bodies and members can come to congratulate the new board. We will celebrate their installation with a night full of free beers and amazing memories. For the inauguration drink, we do need a lot of volunteers. We have to empty the room, protect the board and guestbook during the drink and bring the board home after the drink. We would like to know whether you are available for any of these tasks. Please note: bringing the board home means you are sober. If you are available, please fill in this form. The obligatory infomeeting, at which everything about the order committee will be explained, takes place on Monday June 20th from 12:40 till 13:20 in MF11/12. Note that for non-volunteers, the borrel starts around 19:00 (the internal part). If you have any remaining questions, send a mail to orde@gewis.nl.
