Tuesday 23 Jun. 2020 12:35 - 13:25
Dear GEWISsers!
As everyone probably already has heard, the intro will be very different next year. Sadly, also the FLUP cannot be organised as it was previous years. As the intro committee, we still want to organise some other activity that will fulfil the goals of the FLUP, but also conforms to the corona regulations. We already have some plans of our own, but together we know much more, so we need YOU (insert uncle Sam meme) to help us come up with the best ideas. For this purpose, we are organizing a brainstorm session on 23rd of June from 12:35 until 13:25, the first Tuesday of the exam period. The session will probably be held on the GEWIScord server in one of the meeting spaces voice channels. If too many people will join the brainstorm, the location might switch to Teams. This will be communicated at least before Monday the 22nd 23:59.Hope to see you there,Intro20
Friday 19 Jun. 2020 18:00 - 20:00
Banners, you love them, we love them, they love them and ESPECIALLY the board loves them! That is why the board asked every committee to design a banner and send it in to the board. Of course, we have received a lot of beautiful creations and winner needs to be picked. This competition will take place this Friday at 6 p.m. At first the board will present all banners. After this the board will have a small discussion amongst themselves to determine the winner of the amazing prize! This absolutely fabulous price will of course be a BANNER! So make sure you do not miss this occasion and join the twitch.tv/svgewis Friday at 6 o'clock!
Thursday 18 Jun. 2020 16:30 - 19:00
We are back! This Thursday the first drink in the corona time will take place. This is a pilotdrink to see if activities are going well with the 1.5 meter rules. But that does not stop us, we will all enjoy it. During this drink you will sit on a yellow picnic bench with the 4 of you and you will not go away from this, unless you have to pee. The BAC will bring you your delicious beers. More explanation about the protocols will follow.
You can register per person or with a group of maximum 4. If there are more than 24 people on the registration list before the deadline, there will be a draw. A group then has as much chance of being drawn as a single participant. But then you can see your friends who you have only seen via webcam for the last three months. Note: Your group only counts once in the draw, you can only participate in one group or registration.
Tuesday 16 Jun. 2020 12:00 - 14:30
Hi all,
We hope you are doing well in these strange times. Luckily, we from GEPWNAGE are well-equipped to lock ourselves in and amuse ourselves with all the luxuries the world wide web has to offer. We are proud to see that all other fraternities have paid attention to our lessons in how to set up a nerdy activity. The digital activities all the parties from GEWIS have organized have helped everybody escape the social confinement brought on to us by the virus. We have enjoyed watching keuken met I.V.V on Twitch, joining the quiz from GELIMBO, drinking the cocktails from B.O.O.M, the escape room from ATHENA, and the Daily Defi Dare from Défi.
While these activities made the quarantine exciting and fun, it is time to set the first 1.5 meter steps to the outside world. Sitting inside is the last thing we want for the rest of this year. It just so happens to be that the board agrees, and we are proud to announce that we have permission to organize the first offline activity (sort of) in a long time. It is time to dance of joy and show your best moves on some funky beats and join us at the JUST DANCE COMPO 2020! Show us that your moves are the best moves and beat your dancing rivals to take home the most AWESOME price there is: the honor of saying you beat 29 other GEWIS'ers this year in the most regulated tournament of GEWIS ever.
There are only 24 spots available. The subscription list will open Monday at 13:00. If there are more than 24 participants subscribed by Monday at 14:00, we will select 24 participants with the help of random.org.
TL:DR; UNLEASH YOUR INNER DANCER Tuesday June 16th at 12:00KTHNXBYE,GEPWNAGE
P.S: during the activity, you will have to keep 1.5 meter distance from others at all times and you will be required to regularly disinfect your hands. The activity is laid out such that keeping 1.5 meter distance should not be an issue.

Tuesday Picnic joins us for a joint Lecture from their CTO Daniel Gebler and Joris van Tatenhove. This lecture will look at how online supermarket Picnic upscaled both their online traffic and their offline distribution. This session will approach Picnic both from the Mathematical and the Computer Science side!
The first part will be about business as unusual – How to thrive in the new normal by Daniel Gebler, CTO Picnic. Picnic is the world’s fastest growing online supermarket that makes grocery shopping simple, fun, and affordable for everyone. But what happens if a significant exogenous shock leads to 10x demand and 0.1x supply? How to use this as an opportunity to make cities smarter, safer, and cleaner?
The second part will be about Distribution at Picnic by Joris van Tatenhove Logistics is all about solving hard CS problems. And this became even more fun with the new normal ;) How to solve a problem where heuristics depend on data which is no longer predictive?Join our session and get inspired by how we made multi-factor optimisation fun.
Fri. 5 Jun. 2020 (12:00) - Mon. 8 Jun. 2020 (23:59)
Do you also miss GEWIS and your GEWIS friend(s) during the quarantine time? We as the committee Stijl did so, therefore we came up with the initiative that you can send a GEWIS postcard to your friends. The subscription for the cards opens at the GEWIS website at Friday the 5th of June 2020 at 12.00h. There are 120 cards available (max. 2 per participant), so make sure that if you want to have the possibility to send a card, you subscribe within 4 hours after opening (so before 16.00h). If there are more then 120 subscribers, there will be a draw and the first 120 participants will be able to send 1 postcard. If there are less then 120 subscribers but the total amount of requested postcards is higher than 120, then there will be a draw for the second card. After the closing of the subscription list and when you are within the 120 participants that can send a postcard, you will receive an email with the Google Forms link. Here, you can choose between different designs, to who you want to send the postcard, personalize text and fill in the address. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us via stijl@gewis.nl. Summary GEWIS post cards • View the designs here! • Opening subscription list at Friday 5th of June 12.00h • Draw if more than 120 card subscriptions after Friday 5th of June 16.00h • Maximal 2 cards per participant • Costs: free!

Are you are an adventurous student who likes the spirit of nature and is not afraid to be active for some part of the weekend, or a student who loves to drink beer while sitting at a campfire all night? If you can answer this question with "yes", don't hesitate and join us next year!
Each year we spend this weekend on a campsite. We organise some great activities for you, we make sure there is a river to "stream" in (ask B.O.O.M. members for details) and a campfire to sit at when it's dark and cold. Examples of activities of previous years are mountain biking, spelunking and canoeing. Since we are on a campsite, we will sleep in cozy tents.
This year, we will visit the Eifel in Germany. The weekend will take place from 5th till 7th of June 2020. If you want to join please subscribe below. If you have a car that can take people to Germany please let us know in the form as well. We would also like to know if you have a tent and how many people could fit in it. We will not make tent groups but this might give other people some help in asking around to find a place to sleep :)
We are planning on taking 50 persons to our awesome weekend, so subscribe as soon as possible!
Met takken!
Wednesday 3 Jun. 2020 19:30 - 21:30
Are you also sick of the COVID-19 virus and living in quarantine? We as ATHENA members definitely miss it to be with each other, laughing, eating sweets, and drinking cocktails. Want to escape reality for a bit? We have designed an escape room for you all, which you can join in teams of 4-6 people. The activity will take place on the 3rd of June. We will release the documents that you need to escape at exactly 19:30 in the GEWIScord. We will give you 2 hours to decipher the code, but try to escape as soon as possible because the winners will get a sweet price.
Will you be able to make a sweet escape?
Wednesday 3 Jun. 2020 12:30 - 13:30
Hey everyone!
On the 3rd of June the online committee market will be held during the lunchbreak. The committees of GEWIS will be present in the GEWIS discord to inform you about their committee, the way they work, their goals etc. Every committee will have their own voice and text channel where you can ask them questions or maybe get to know some members in a more informal way.
So from 12:30 until 13:30 you can drop by in the GEWIScord to ask any questions you might have to the committees you are interested in. If you do not know what committees there are or if you do not know if you are interested in joining one, you can also just drop by to observe, there are no strings attached!
We hope to see you all there!
Kind regards,The 38th board
P.S. Here is the link to the discord: https://discord.gg/UcHhJYf

We will start at 20:00 and communiCAte using the GEWIScord. Subscribe with your friends and grab a beer for a relaxing evening. There will also be a small twist for the first few rounds which could be used to your advantage with guessing...

Am I hungry or just bored? Do I need to eat less because I am sitting at home? What is suggested to eat right now? How can I stop my cravings? Those are questions you might have during this quarantine. You might have other questions regarding food. TRAIN wants to help you get those questions answered. Yvonne de Kinkelder, the food coach of the SSC is making a podcast about all kinds of food related topics during quarantine. She can help you answer your questions, but she needs to know which question you might have! TRAIN will send all your questions to her and they might get answered. The podcast will be uploaded to the SSC YouTube channel. Tune in for the podcast of the SSC and you may get your questions answered. We hope to (virtually) “see†you there! Here is the form for sending in questions.

Dear GEWIS member,
Due to the Corona crisis, the yearly ATHENA/B.O.O.M./BAC cocktail buitenborrel with burgers can not take place this year, which is of course very sad. Therefore, B.O.O.M. and ATHENA have been thinking about some alternatives for you (and for ourselves of course). We came up with the amazing idea to cook burgers and make cocktails at home, and we call it ‘Burgers bakken en cocktails hakken!’. Thursday the 28th of May, the one and only Tom ‘Cocktail Guy’ Slenders will teach you how to make three different cocktails. You can follow the livestream at twitch.tv/cocktailslive, which starts at 19.30h. During this livestream there will be some breaks, during which you can drink your cocktail on the GEWIS discord. We made you a shopping list, which you can find here: ShoppingList.pdf. In this list you can also find the tools you’ll need for making the cocktails, and some ideas for substitutes if you don’t have these tools at home.
There is more! From this moment onward, you can join the B.O.O.M. Burger Battle. Make a small video, a photo collage, or whatever you like, of yourself creating the most delicious burger. Send in your result by emailing to burgerbattle@mettakken.nl, before Thursday the 28th (Wednesday night at the latest). The most delicious, most beautiful, most creative or must funny result might even win a small price! Don't know how to start? Watch this video for some burger-inspiration: Burger Battle Inspiration.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Hugs, kisses and mettakken,ATHENA and B.O.O.M.

Join the spectacular awesome Intro Theme Announcement Borrel uuhm Activity…
We are very sad that we cannot reveal the Intro Theme to you while enjoying a drink at GEWIS with a home-made video. However, we can still reveal the Intro Theme to you at home while having a beer with a home-made oh I’m not allowed to say.
On Tuesday 26th of May, a new creature will appear at GEWIScord. Is it human? Is it software? No, it is an Intro20 bot. The Intro20 bot will lead you, in teams of four, through all challenges and in the end, you will find the treasure.
Thus grab your beer, take a urination break, and prepare for a series of challenges that will lead you to the Intro Theme of 2020. You can subscribe to the ITBA on the GEWIS website and on the 26th of May at 18:30 the Intro20 bot, with the assistance of the Intro20 committee members, will be ready to welcome you all!
Please be aware that the activity is just to guess the theme, you do not have to become an intro parent.
Talk to you then!Kisses, Intro20 Committee

TLDR; Talk/interview from Sioux about developing Artificial Intelligence, hosted on Microsoft Teams. However, what would a Sioux lecture be without pizza? Therefore, everyone who visits the lecture receives a Domino's discount code and a few lucky winners will also receive a Domino's voucher, so you can get a delicious pizza yourself.

Mon. 25 May. 2020 (12:00) - Mon. 1 Jun. 2020 (12:00)
Dear GEWIS member, our evenings have been a lot less exciting now that we’re all in quarantine. After cleaning our rooms for the third time in two weeks we’ve been trying to learn new skills now that we are all at home, but we have also found the time to reminisce of our previous hobbies.
You too have probably started doing a lot of things you did in the past, like practicing old skills, reading old books or playing old computer games. Have you too forgotten all the awesome games you used to play? Then we’ve got the activity for you.
For GESeiK’s second ever activity we are organizing an online spele.nl tournament! We have selected the most nostalgic and fun games that you probably played way back when. During the last week of May you’ll get the chance to compete with other teams (of maximum 4 people) for who is best at these games and you might even win yourself a special prize!
Every day we’ll give you an game of the past for which you’ll have 2 days to get the highest score you can achieve. You can send these scores (with optionally a fun selfie included?) to us. So sign up on the GEWIS site with your group now and we’ll send you the details in due time.
Love, GESeiK

Dear members,
The extraordinarily successful "Keuken with I.V.V" makes its return for a second round! If you missed the first episode, you can enjoy a recap of some of the best moments on Youtube.
This Friday around 5 o'clock in the afternoon, Fraternity "In Vino Veritas" will take to twitch.tv/hetdispuut once more to provide a culinary miracle. This time, the menu will consist of home made pasta with some sublime, student-proof options for pasta sauce! We will start preparing the fresh pasta at 5, during which you can of course join us too. The program itself will continue at 17:45, when the first sauces will be cooked. You can buy pasta from the grocery store if you don't have access to all the proper materials to make your own pasta. The pasta could also be made without these materials, but this won't be demonstrated during the live stream. We strive to have all sauces done by 7:30 p.m.
The recipes can be found here.
See you (or us) on Friday!
Wed. 20 May. 2020 (18:00) - Sun. 24 May. 2020 (18:00)
12 participants will go on a weekend completing missions to earn money for the pot, but "nothing is as it seems". 1 participant will try his best to make sure this does not happen. This mole shall try to sabotage the games without being noticed and the other participants will try to unmask him.
Are you a fan of the Dutch tv show "Wie is de Mol?" or its international spinoffs? Have you watched the episodes of the previous editions of GEMOLD and do you want to join this year? Do you have nerves made of steel? Do you think you will find the mole in a rollercoaster of emotions, lies and foul play?
Then subscribe for the GEMOLD20 weekend from May 20th up until May 24th (depending on your own prestations). We have room for 12 participants (including 1 mole) and a few assistants who can help us during the weekend with cooking, filming and possibly as a driver. In the case there are too many subscriptions the available spots will be given by a lottery. The option participant or else assistant is for if you want to join as a participant, but still want to help as an assistant after an unlucky draw.
For more information look at our facebookpage or our website.

Mon. 18 May. 2020 (18:00) - Fri. 5 Jun. 2020 (14:00)
Valued GEWIS-member,
Since the first announcement of the idea on the GMM, you have shown significant interest in these unique, limited edition facemasks. Interest was shown for around 200 pieces by around 100 people.
Most feedback came on the design, which was made in a hurry by a mechanical engineer. Thanks to a design team formed by Samuel Oosterholt, Levi Prikken, Marlene van Laar and Illona Hoenderop, we can now proudly present you an awesome design available for order!
We changed suppliers as well to have more options for printing and more comfortable materials. Therefore, we now have a cotton back for greater comfort so you can wear it without problems on train rides to Enschede and the masks have all over printing.
Ladies and gentlemen, you will not believe it, but these awesome GEWIS masks will be available for €3.50 each! Therefore, do not wait any longer and order enough to get you through COVID-times!
On our current timeline, we expect the masks to arrive on the 5th of June latest(when picking up).
Registration is possible at https://forms.gle/81XmmxNqkd2Z5a8u5
With kind, socially distant greetings,
Members' initiative "GEWIS-facemasks",
Samuel Oosterholt, Levi Prikken, Marlene van Laar, Illona Hoenderop and Rick Wouters
Tuesday 12 May. 2020 19:00 - 20:30
Unfortunately, this training will be given in Dutch, we are sorry!
Tue. 12 May. 2020 (18:00) - Sun. 17 May. 2020 (16:00)
Value GEWISsers,
As the one and a half-meter society begins to take shape and it becomes clear what "the new normal" will look like, it also begins to become clear that the possession of a face mask is necessary for travelling in public transport and to other public places.
Taking into account that the Aliexpress has long delivery times and questionable quality and alternatives produced in our home country are not suitable for our student budgets, here is the "members initiative facemasks", with which you can safely and RIVM-proof take part in the one and a half metere society.
Made of OEKO-TEX® 100-polyester, they don't cause irritation, can be washed at 60 degrees and also look gigantically fashionable.
The price is around €3.50 each when you pick them up in Eindhoven, shipping within the Netherlands is 1.80. If you left the low countries, do not weep, since as long as you pay the shipping and PostNL delivers, I will send it to everywhere in the world
A preliminary design can be found on https://imgur.com/a/ceM0XxK, but I am definitely open to suggestions, ideas and comments! These can be sent to sjaarsrick@gewis.nl.
Please indicate how many you would like and whether or not you would like them shipped. This is an interest list, if there is interest (> 50 pieces) there will be a registration list where you can actually order. If we don't make it to 50, I will start crying hard.
Mon. 11 May. 2020 (18:00) - Tue. 12 May. 2020 (01:00)
Because of the Corona crisis we are forced to hold this GMM in an online environment. If you want to participate in the GMM you need to email to board@gewis.nl before Monday May 11th, 11:59 a.m. with the following three pieces of information:
Your name and membership numberThe email address you use for Microsoft Teams (All TU/e students can log in with their student address)The date stated on your profile on the GEWIS site in the column ``Last membership change''.Only you can see this last detail, so it is needed for verifiability. Once you have sent these and they check out, you will invited to a Team on Monday in which the GMM will be held. Voting will be done through Microsoft Forms within Teams.
This will be the Wissel-ALV (Election GMM) in which the thirty ninth board will be elected. There will be a vote about storing the profits of the NWERC into a reserve at GEWIS. A group of people to evaluate the Multi Annual Strategic Vision of GEWIS must be formed, so there will also be a vote on that. Furthermore, the candidate board will present a draft of their board policy and there will be voted on the continuation of the fraternities.
Friday 8 May. 2020 13:00 - 16:00
The National Interuniversitary Mathematical Olympiad is a yearly competition in which teams of up to 4 students from Dutch and Flemish universities get three hours to solve a set of mathematical problems. The problems are meant for students of all years that want to test their mathematical insight.
Unfortunately, due to the current measures, the physical edition will not be able to take place. However, for us all to still be able to participate in some fun activities, we will be organising an online edition! This edition will still take place on May 8th. Together with your team, you can work from 13:00 until 16:00 on a couple of fun and challenging problems.
For more information, and to sign up, please visit limo.a-eskwadraat.nl.
So as to not let your weekly grocery shopping trip be your only escape, gather a team around you and sign up now! All exercises will be made available in both Dutch and English.
Thursday 7 May. 2020 16:30 - 19:00
As the GEWIS room is closed at the moment, we have some crates of beer left. Therefore we offer you the opportunity to buy one or more crates. For just €7,50 and €3,90 deposit you can get a crate of Grolsch beugels or mini's. We are not sure how much crates we have left, so we can not guarantee that you get the amount you want. You can pick up your crates at the house of a BAC-member in Eindhoven, we therefore ask you in which neighborhood you want to pik up your crates.

Hi everyone!Keeping track of time is not my forte these days, but I was informed it is Liberation Day in two weeks! Normally, festivals are organised around the Netherlands to celebrate living in a free country, but corona blablabla.Anyways, living in free country means you are free to express and explore your talents in (almost) any way you want. So this Liberation Day, we want to see the amazing talents of GEWIS!This can be anything: drawing, dancing, music, writing, acting, arts and crafts, magic, or any other artform. Maybe you are very passionate about maths, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, politics, or another subject with a story you'd like to tell. Cooking, gaming, sports, engineering, designing, really anything goes.We want to see your forte, the talent that you excel in!On May 5th at 20:00, FESTIVITEIT will organise a livestream (twitch.tv/vinzboer), presenting ALL your submissions (within twitch TOS/no nudity) to celebrate your creativity! Submit your picture(s)/video(s) (max 6 minutes please, longer is possible)/audio/text to festiviteit@gewis.nl. If the files are too big for an e-mail, you can use a YouTube/WeTransfer/Google Drive link. Feel free to give us a backstory/explanation of your submission, which we will also include on the stream! The deadline for submitting is May 4th.We are looking forward to seeing your creations!
TL;DRSubmit your talent to festiviteit@gewis.nlAll submissions will be livestreamed on twitch.tv/vinzboer on 5 May at 20:00Deadline for submitting your creations is May 4thNo answer sheets on stream this time.If you have any questions/need any help, let us know!

Dear Batavieren,
This year, GEWIS will once again join the Batavierenrace. This year this relay run from Nijmegen to Enschede will be held in the weekend of 1,2 and 3 May 2020. If you would like to join us, subscribe as soon as possible because we only have 25 spots.
What is the Batavierenrace? On Friday in the evening, we will go to Enschede, where you can already set up your tent and you can drink a beers. Every participant will be divided into the night-, morning or afternoon team. The first stage of the night team will start at 23:00 in the centre of Nijmegen and the relay run ends Saturday afternoon around 17:00 at the campus of the University of Twente in Enschede. After the relay run, there will be the biggest student party of Europe. On Sunday, we will return to Eindhoven. Further information on the Batavierenrace will follow after subscription or you can find it on their website https://www.batavierenrace.nl/.
With sportive regards,Bata
Fri. 1 May. 2020 (00:48) - Sat. 2 May. 2020 (23:59)
Dear Batavieren,
As you may have noticed, the regular edition of the Batavierenrace does not take place due to the COVID-19 virus. Nevertheless there is an alternative: the first online Batavierenrace! Of course we want to participate in this with a team of GEWIS members. It goes as follows: we have to run 125km together, so the organizing party expects 25 screenshots of the runned distance and the time that together add up to 125km.
So our plan is as follows: everyone runs from their quarantaine spot around 5 kilometers. Register your run via for instance Strava, or your most prefered app and take a screenshot containing the route, the distance, the time and your name. Please notice that your run has to be done between Friday 1 May 00:48 and Saterday 2 May 23:59, otherwise your run won't count. Send your screenshot to bata@gewis.nl and join in the online Batavierenrace!
As we can not cheer each other and as there is nobody to take pictures during your run, we ask you to take selfies to get a feeling of the ambiance we normally have during the Batavierenrace. Saturday evening we will have an online drink (bring your own Schulties) to finish it together. Everyone can join, so subscribe such that we know that we have enough participants.
For everyones safety it is important to keep 1,5 meters distance of others during your run and to walk alone. In this way we can still have a nice edition of the Batavierenrace.
Sportive regards,The Bata committee

Do you find yourself watching Netflix instead of studying? Is your homework piling up, but are you distracting yourself with that new game that just came out? Did you suddenly pick up running, but only to run away from your schoolwork? Don’t look any further, because we might be able to help you!In times like this, where working from home is the only option, it can be hard to stay productive and focus on your classes. And since we’re going to be stuck in this situation until at least the end of this semester; we’re organizing a workshop about motivation. Where in this case “we†is the FYC TRAIN workgroup, that contains of four members of different FYCs and two members of TRAIN.During the training you will learn about motivation, what it is and the pitfalls of it. You will also learn about setting goals and distractions. An important part of the training is setting up a buddy systems. This way you can talk with other people about staying motivated and those people can support you. The training will be given in two sessions, the first session will be held April 29 from 19:30-21:00, and the second session will take place at the May 7, at the same time. The two sessions can’t be attended separately, so please make sure that, if you subscribe, you’re available both these dates. The training will take place in Zoom.Since a part of the training takes place within groups, and some people might prefer doing this with people they know well, there is an opportunity to subscribe with a group (please fill in the same group name). A group should consist of 5 people. If you don’t have a preference, then you can of course fill in “I don’t have a group’†and we will make sure that you are added to a group. The training will be given by Jan Reinder Rosing who works for Project Wijsheid. This is the same company the trainer of TRAIN’s willpower training works for.So, if you are ready to get motivated again, or to stay motivated, then you are very welcome. There are only 35 spots available, so if you suddenly can’t make it to the training please let us know in time, so that we can make someone else happy with your spot.

Because physical lunchlectures can no longer take place we present you with our very first Lockdown lecture provided by the Rabobank!
The session will be hosted by Rob Douwes, Lead Business Architect and Tu/e Alumni. He states that the financial industry is modernizing rapidly into a virtual presence where the current distribution models are no longer valid. He leads the bright-minded team of business architects and IT-architects / engineers to develop the next gen architecture for the online presence and CRM functions of Rabobank. He also guides the implementation of IT-systems for the future and sun setting legacy along with designing migrations strategies for open banking in the near future. Managing this process in an efficient and effective way is his everyday challenge and even more amidst Covid-19.
Note that the format will be a bit different than usual, to gain interaction with you from home the lecture will consist for a large part of a Q&A. Are you curious about Rabobank and how they are managing the current Covid-19 situation? Please submit your questions beforehand when you subscribe! Arrrr! The GEZWEM sailing weekend is coming up!This year, because GEZWEM is turning 20, we will have a grandiose celebration with our 4th lustRUM weekend. Unlike other years instead of sailing on small 'valkjes' we will go sailing on the ship De Vrijheid (The Freedom), a large three-master. With this beautiful ship we tour around the IJsselmeer. The exact route and sights strongly depend on the weather, so we will announce those later.
If you're up for a weekend of sailing on a beautiful ship combined with drinking some rum and beer, enroll yourself for the 20th edition of the GEZWEM weekend, our 4th lustRUM weekend!
There is also the opportunity to only join us on the Saturday for one day of sailing of you sadly can't make it for the whole weekend.
We will leave from Enkhuizen which is well accessible by public transport.
Caution: the capacity for the 'Entire Weekend' package is at most 34 persons, and the capacity for the 'Saturday Only' package is at most 12 persons. In this subscription list, we will apply a draw on those who subscribe within one hour from the opening of this subscription list, and the maximum capacity has been exceeded.Everyone who subscribed but has not been drawn for participating will be put on a reserve list.

These are hard times and unpleasant circumstances to live through during this crisis, which has been going on for far too long now due to the coronavirus presumably caused by the oral consumption of one of the only winged mammals on earth called Chiroptera, or popularly known as the Bat, which was presumably a carrier of the aforementioned virus. The disease spreads between humans through bodily fluids from the mouth and nose, which is why there are guidelines that prevent us from being affected. This ensures that nowadays people live in isolation, and therefore coverstating with those around them is kept to a minimum and comes less from their trusted environment. It would make you delusional!
But don't be sad! Hèt Dispuut comes up with a solution for all those who sit at home without any amusement in the late hours of the ordinary and boring working day. Dispuut ``In Vino Veritas'' would also like to contribute to the continuity of social events as well as entertaining (among others) the members of our wonderful study association. The fact is that thanks to Hèt Dispuut in normal circumstances all GEWIS members can regularly enjoy the decadence we wish you and of course ourselves at any time by organizing exquisite activities. Since these activities normally involve meeting our loved ones in person, we too have not been idle and have come up with a solution to transfer this decadence not only to our residences, but also to those of everyone else who is regularly present at our activities.
A responsible small group of enthusiastic members of Hèt Dispuut will prepare two dishes on the evening of Tuesday 21 April. The preparation of these dishes can be followed via a digital medium (Twitch) by anyone who wants to join this show which will undoubtedly be a show of excellence. Well in advance of this broadcast, two shopping lists will be placed on the web, one for a beginner's dish, and the other for a dish where you will undoubtedly surprise your parents with during an extensive Christmas dinner, provided, of course, that the preparation will be executed correctly. In this way, anyone who accompanies us digitally can imitate the decadence we are producing for our own consumption in order to have the same decadence take place in their own residence. It will undoubtedly be a crackling session.

IOTA, the better version of Blockchain and the Ledger of Everything! In 2009, Bitcoin released its blockchain infrastructure and promised to become a global decentralized system that could be used by anyone without the need for intermediaries. Now, more than 10 years later it has become apparent (high fee’s, slow transaction times and poor scalability) that blockchains mathematical model isn’t suited to become a worldwide payment system.
However, the next generation of Distributed Ledger Technology is now here and it’s called IOTA! This protocol is designed from the ground up to power the Machine economy through feeless micro-transactions and data integrity utilizing a mathematical principle, called Directed-Acyclic-Graph (DAG). It is this concept that allows IOTA to outperform blockchain in every way and established a network dubbed the ‘‘Tangle’’ It is expected that this technology will become the very backbone for the Internet of Things and power the internet of tomorrow! Curious how this works? Come and listen to the presentation!
Monday 23 Mar. 2020 20:00 - 23:00
The coronavirus grips every nook and cranny of the world and the whole of the Netherlands is at home. Sport has been cancelled, lectures are no longer taking place and our beloved "dakterras" is closed to have a beer after a hard day.
In these times it is important to keep yourself busy. You can easily start doing things you never really get around to, like finishing your BEP, passing that one course and the new Animal Crossing. However, sometimes you miss that little bit of competition that you normally have on the sports field.
That's why there's a pub quiz on Monday night! Through the magic of the internet one can join this pub quiz corona-free in the comfort of his or her own living room! Make a team of 2-6 people, skype/discord each other (you're not supposed to meet up for this quiz), get a drink and fight for eternal fame.
For the GEWIS members for whom eternal fame is not good enough, there are extra reasons to join: The winner wins a 10 euro drinks card, so the first round at the next drink is free!

Make sure that you have played all your matches of the group phase before March 23, because that is when the finales will take place!
Thus make sure to register quickly, so we can start competing! Do not forget to enter a team name, as otherwise your registration will not be valid!

The world is full of cultures, traditions and local products for us to enjoy. French wine, Catalan fuet, Portugese port... many consumables of which we have the privilege to taste during many of our Maand'lijksche Borrels. Nonetheless, closer to our Dutch homes, there are plenty other things to enjoy.
Last week, we have participated in one of our Dutch traditions originating from the southern parts of our little country: carnaval. To add to this ultimate chance to experience a week of Dutch culture, Fraternity "In Vino Veritas" will organize the "Old-Dutch Borrel". Here, you can all enjoy the more traditional drinks and bites from the Netherlands. This festivity full of "gezelligheid" will take place in the usual GEWIS room "Het Dakterras" and will start on Wednesday March 4 around 17:30. We hope to see you all during this unforgettable evening!
P.S. traditional Dutch clothing is not obligatory.

What do preliminary schools and garbage collection have in common? Indeed, both are areas where society benefits from mathematics! These days, lots of primary schools are digitizing and many are letting their pupils use tablets to solve exercises. Instead of letting them all make the same exercises, what if we can match exercises to a pupil's level? How do we determine then which exercises are difficult? And which pupils need more personal care? Mathematics will tell you how to solve this chicken and egg problem. Additionally, Marloes will show you how mathematics can save a municipality millions each year. But how do you convince a government that you are right and they are wrong (without literally saying this, believe me... that doesn't help). How to convince them to invest in your ideas and put trust in math. Join the lunch lecture and find out more about with garbage collection and maths! About Marloes Boswerger After her internship at LIME, Marloes finished her MSc (Industrial and Applied Mathematics) at the TU/e and joined Sioux as a Mathware Engineer in the Sioux Mathware Competence Center (formerly known as LIME). Within the Mathware department, Marloes strengthened her portfolio with projects related to data analysis, blockchains, neural networks and more. Note: After subscription, showing up is mandatory. Unsubscribing is possible until Monday the 2nd of March, 23.59h

The case will guide you through the steps of an ASML metrology engineer trying to diagnose the issue with the new wafer heating correction model. You will be learning about the model’s purpose and inner workings, studying machine measurement data, and proposing experiments in an attempt to pinpoint the problem and fix it.
About the caseAfter two years of intensive study and development, you proudly present your new and improved software package, meant to suppress wafer heating effects in ASML’s new 140 million euro scanner. Just in time, too, since the scanners are about to be shipped to customers. And then, after one week of use, it turns out not to work. This happened to us a time ago, and led to a frantic and broad search for the root cause of the problem. During the investigation, we had to consider not just the software, but also the software’s relation to the surrounding mechatronic system, and the basic physics involved. The wafer heating student case is based on our records of this period.
The case will guide you (in teams) through the steps of an ASML metrology engineer trying to diagnose the issue with the new wafer heating correction model. You will be learning about the model’s purpose and inner workings, studying machine measurement data, and proposing experiments in an attempt to pinpoint the problem and fix it. But don’t forget! The customer is already using the machine. You’d better hurry, because as always, time is money!
Using a ‘choose your own adventure’ style game, diagnose a design problem in the interaction of the wafer heating feed-forward functionality. The game is played in teams which compete with each other to see who solves the problem while spending the lowest amount of ‘effort’ points.

After last year's success of the Alexa workshop, Ortec Finance is back with a new workshop, Game of Homes!
In the Game of Homes, your team poses as Ortec Finance and will advise a struggling housing association which risks bankruptcy if nothing changes. It is your job to come up with a strategy involving rent policies, renovations and more. The housing association must remain financially healthy while fulfilling core goals like low rents and high sustainability. Your ideas are scored against economic scenarios provided by Ortec Finance. Beat your opponents, become the best consultant and win the Game of Homes!
You will implement strategies as formulas within programming code, but we set up the case such that you do not require extensive programming experience (although it can certainly help). The workshop involves some basic econometrics and computational modeling.
Note that there is a maximum of 20 participants!
Friday 14 Feb. 2020 08:00 - 17:00
With the Christmas holiday behind us, we look to the next festivity coming up! Like last year, FESTIVITEIT will be distributing roses at GEWIS on Valentine’s Day (February 14th). Do you have a secret crush you want to surprise? Would you like to treat your girl-/boyfriend? Do you want to let your friends know how much you appreciate them? Or do you want to give a rose to someone of the faculty? You can now buy one or more roses from the members of FESTIVITEIT for just one euro a piece! You will get a card from us, on which you can write a sweet message for the receiver of your rose. There’s a Cupidoos on the windowsill at GEWIS where you can hand in your cards. From there on out we’ll make sure that each message gets attached to a rose and that your beloved knows (via email) there’s a rose waiting for them at GEWIS on Friday February the 14th. The cards will be sold till Thursday February the 6th. So, if you love/like someone and want them to know this, buy them a rose!
Also, there will be two prizes! One for the person who bought the most roses, and one lottery prize, which will be awarded to the buyer of a random ticket. Of course we will make sure these two winners will not be the same person.
The rose receivers need to pick up their rose at GEWIS themselves. However if you sent a rose to a faculty member, and make this clear on the card, FESTIVITEIT will bring it to them.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Some of you might already be familiar with pub quizzes. Most I.V.V’ers enjoy the occasional pub quiz. However, whenever we would participate in one of these so called quizzes, we noticed that there was something missing; a certain “Je ne sais quoiâ€, if you’ll pardon my French. We realized that we were unable to showcase our tactical acumen that would even put a 5 star general to shame during these quizzes. Thus, we decided to add a bluffing element to our quizzes.
There is no better feeling than staring down your opponent and making them believe you answered more questions correctly then they did (which might not even be the case). When you succeed in this you will be overcome with joy and euphoria. To give you an opportunity to feel this joy and euphoria yourselves, I.V.V will organize a bluffing quiz evening in the style of a Dutch television show called “Met het Mes op Tafelâ€. This form of quizzing does have some specific rules which will be explained at the beginning of the evening. A rough translation of the game rules can also be found here https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=nl&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.maxvandaag.nl%2Fprogrammas%2Ftv%2Fmet-het-mes-op-tafel%2Fspelregels-mes-op-tafel%2F .
In regular I.V.V fashion, we will be serving delicious hors d’oeuvre and wines during the entire evening. At the end of the quiz, the participants will be able to continue enjoying the company of their quizmasters and the hors d’oeuvres and wines at the bar.
The activity will take place on the 11th of February at GEWIS starting at 19:00. Only 25 spots will be available so make sure to sign up in time. This will be possible starting the 5th of February starting at 12:00.

Vanderlande delivers material handling solutions, including systems that automate complete warehouses, which can be extremely large. The size and complexity of these systems make them impossible to test in real life. Imagine having to move 200 000 trays every time you need to redo a test. Within Vanderlande we solve this problem by building an emulation model. During this lunch presentation we will explain how our emulation model is built. Furthermore, we will discuss some other interesting developments within Vanderlande
The emulation model is built with Java and OpenGL. We’ll be discussing some of the technical challenges we’ve had to overcome, and of course our solutions to them. To facilitate our work, we’ve also implemented a DSL (domain specific language), which helps with modelling components typically seen in a warehouse or baggage handling system. We will use that to give you a general feeling of what we do on a daily basis.
This lecture will be given by Rick Hendricksen (Senior Software Engineer & old GEWIS-member) and Dennis van den Berg (Product Owner)

TNO is an independent research organization who connects people and knowledge to create innovations that boost the sustainable competitive strength of industry and well-being of society. TNO focuses on nine themes, two of them being ICT and Industry who jointly cooperate in the Smart Industry program. This program aims to execute the Dutch Smart Industry Agenda in order to support manufacturing organizations embrace Industry 4.0 concepts. Mike de Roode is a Scientist Integrator at the Data Science department of TNO and is working on semantic interoperability solutions as part of the Smart Industry agenda.
An example project Mike is working on is the Fieldlab Smart Connected Supplier Network (SCSN), a collaboration between small and large manufacturing organizations, software vendors/integrators, and sector organizations. The goal of the SCSN project is to better integrate the manufacturing organizations in complex dynamic supply chain collaborations in such a way that they can optimally exchange order-, logistical- and production process measurement-data. This solution supports the complex environment of the high-tech equipment manufacturing Industry in the Brainport region and should work both for large enterprises, as for small SME’s which do not have the resources for extensive IT integration efforts. Nowadays, SCSN is implemented by almost all relevant software vendors so manufacturing organizations can use the standard to communicate with a large network of suppliers and customers, both national as international.

Dear members,
In the past (ask older members) the three TUs in the Netherlands have organized a special day where the members of the Mathematics and Computer Science Study Associations could meet eachother and have a fun day together. This was called a DET-day (for Delft, Eindhoven and Twente).
Now this has been a very long time ago, and Enschede wants to bring the DET-day back. Sadly, the Delft has already said that they do not have any interest in such a day. The question is: Do we?
For our ET-day some fun activities would be organized like a campus tour, maybe a pub quiz, and of course a `borrel' afterwards. The party that wants to organize it is also looking into options for participants to sleep in Twente so you can discover Enschede by night. This day is not yet planned, so it is fully dependent on this interest list if the activity will be organized.
So are you interested? Subscribe! Are you solely interested if you can stay at night? Say yes in that column! Are there things that you would like to see as a day activity? Please state so!

Dear ladies and gentlemen,
With the holidays approaching us, the end of the year is getting closer and closer. However, before you all completely disappear from the face of the earth, buried under oliebollen, Christmas dinners with family and mountains with fireworks on New Year's Eve, I would like to draw your attention to a unique event which will take place in the first week of January.
In the sign of good intentions, insofar as you think that your soul can still be saved by undertaking actions of this kind, I ask your attention for a very special drink in the first week of the new year, a I.V.V-tradition, namely, the I.V.V New Year's drink. I thus hereby invite you to toast on a decadent year together with the Fraternity "In Vino Veritas" and to kick off a new decade while enjoying a bubble or a vin.
If this good intention is not challenging enough for you, I hereby present to you that Fraternity "In Vino Veritas" also offers you the unique opportunity to taste one of the most delicate bites to be found on this earth. For those who dare, and for those who are already admirers, there will be the opportunity to bite an oyster. If that is not a good start of the year, then I don’t know anymore either. So don't be afraid and let yourself be surprised on Tuesday the 7th of January by Fraternity "In Vino Veritas" with a bubble and an oyster!
On behalf of Fraternity "In Vino Veritas",
Mrs. Van Veenendaal

DevOps, a developers role? The introduction of Agile software development has caused the frequency of software deliveries to increase and has changed the view on how this should be achieved. This presentation will introduce the world of Operations and what they perceive as working software. What is required for Continuous Integration and Delivery and for Lifecycle management. It will also show how a developer can contribute to this, improving the overall quality of the software you create and saving time in the long run.

ODPi Egeria is one of the open-source projects that ING is actively contributing to. We want to achieve the vision of making metadata open and automatically exchanged between tools and data platforms, no matter which vendor they come from.
On top of that, Egeria provides various customer-centric metadata services according to enterprise data strategies.
During this lunch lecture, we will start with an introduction to Egeria and address how this open metadata standard with an automated platform transforms ING into a real data-driven company along with a practical use case.

The year is almost coming to an end and it seems like everyone is getting busier with every turn of the earth around its own axis. The dusk falls upon us earlier and the mood is getting cozier by the day. The weather is getting more gray and colder and most of you are probably already longing to take your red and green clothes out of your closet and have an early Christmas. So it is the perfect time to relax inside by a fire and spend time with good company.
Luckily, you can count on The Fraternity “In Vino Veritas†once again to provide you with the perfect chance to have a relaxing night filled with good company, delicious snacks and exquisite drinks. On Friday the 22nd of November another one of our notorious Maand’lijksche Borrels will take place in our beloved GEWIS-room ‘Het Dakterras’. Everyone is welcome at our special Friday edition which will be dominated by a special wine from the country in the south of Europe with a green and red flag, Portugal. Of course the usual delicious wines will be available, but there has been made a selection of various premium ports which will broaden your taste pallet for good. Next to that there will also be our usual tasty bites, of which some will be home-made this time. All this to ensure you can begin the weekend with a nice relaxing evening ‘by the fire’.
We hope to see you all there!
Wednesday 20 Nov. 2019 19:00 - 23:00
Hello dear reader,
Dracula has organised a party, and you have been invited! Be warned: this will most certainly not be your average party...
You could be one of the murderers, trying to eliminate specific targets, steal objects, or just kill as many people as possible without being caught. Or you could be one of the detectives, who can only win by locking up murderers, but who lose when they arrest someone innocent. Or maybe you are just trying to abuse the chaos and confusion in order to fulfill your own, completely different, goals. Either way, chaotic fun is guaranteed! Oh, and don't worry: we have special roles for those who get knocked out of the game :3
We will run the game twice. At most ~30 people can play each time, so (depending on the amount of subscriptions) you can play twice!
See you there!
~ GEPWNAGE
Tuesday 19 Nov. 2019 16:00 - 18:30
This training takes place in the afternoon
In your life you cross paths with many new people, and with some you have daily contact: teachers, peers, colleagues ... Sometimes you are "on the same wavelength" with someone and sometimes it seems as if you come from completely different planets. You get along well with some, but with others you have difficulty. What do you do if the other person exhibits behavior that is difficult for you, for example if you are addressed by an authoritarian person in a fierce and compelling tone? Or what will your approach be if you want to make a timid and not very talkative conversation partner enthusiastic about something and it doesn't work? And how do you deal with a talkative and over-enthusiastic colleague who constantly drowns you out during a meeting? The key to the answering this lies in understanding and applying the psychology that lies behind behavior and the many colors that you can recognize within this behavior.
In this training you learn how you can recognize people by their behavior and how you can deal with different behaviors. On the one hand so that you can get a "click" with them and you can achieve your own goals. On the other hand to prevent conflicts and to keep up in situations that are difficult for you.
For this training there are apporximately 30 spots so be sure to subscribe in time!

TLDR; Lunch lecture about Docker Containers and Microservices with free Domino's pizza! Modern software systems need to be flexible, scalable and reliable. The industry hype says that a combination of Docker containers with a Microservices based architecture is well suited to meet those demands. The presentation will show that there are good reasons for the claim and they are not just buzzwords. The talk will first provide a brief introduction into Docker containers and the Microservices architecture pattern. It will then describe a concrete case that Sioux is working on where a monolithic application is refactored into Docker based microservices, resulting in a flexible, scalable and reliable system. About the speaker: Henk van den Heuvel is a software architect at Sioux Technologies. He has worked with systems varying in size from 8 bit microcontrollers to scalable cloud based systems and is always eager to learn about new technologies. Programming himself is still one of his activities. Not only because he likes to do so, but also to keep practical experiences with these new techniques. Note: After subscription, showing up is mandatory. Unsubscribing is possible until Wednesday the 16th of October, 23.58h

Demystifying AI
Is AI really going to cause an industrial revolution scale change, or is it just the next hyped tech buzzword like blockchain? In this talk we will briefly go over AI and break it up into technical components that actually have a clear definition. From this point we will look at how AI is presented in the news and blog posts and evaluate where it is actually implemented in everyday industry and business. You will quickly find out that we are far from using AI as effectively as the news might portray, but also that the underlying technology has promising applications in some areas.

Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., Mario Party, Overcooked, Pokémom...
We noticed that a lot of members have a Switch. And playing together is the most fun, so we thought it would be fun if we had a low-key Switch-LAN party. So on Saturday the 28th at GEWIS, we'll be doing a low-key Switch activity. Bring your switch, and maybe some snacks as well, and then we can play together, exchange friendcodes and maybe do some spur-of-the-moment tournaments.
Hope to see you then. If you don't have a switch, you can also come and play with us if someone has a spot left on his or her console.
Greetz,
Emma and Wesley

Computer systems are complex; that is why problems sometimes only arise when the software is used (in production). In order to prevent panic and stress, we look in this session for a structured way to deal with a production problem. We do this on the basis of a practical example of DSW.

Unfortunately this lecture will be given in Dutch, sorry for the inconvenience! Below you can find the Dutch description:Smartphones hebben een belangrijke plek in ons leven gekregen.

Data Science with purpose - That is the motto under which Pipple started in an attic room in Eindhoven. In the meantime, 3 years have passed and the club data scientists and data engineers no longer fit in an attic room, in fact, due to our rapid growth, even the second Pipple office has already been started! This rapid growth has been possible through incredibly cool projects in both the logistics direction and data science for customers such as DHL, CoolBlue, Achmea and Philips. In addition, we have not lost sight of our motto and we are helping the Red Cross data department with various assignments and supervising graduates and trainees who can work on Red Cross projects. If you would like to hear more about our purpose projects and our company, you can do so during a lunch lecture on 10 September!
Wednesday 4 Sep. 2019 17:00 - 22:00
The new academic year has already commenced, but while every individual has their own ways of inducting their year - one might start off with all the courage in the world, intending to score double digits of study points in the coming quartile, another may not have been able to find as much motivation - we can all agree on at least one fact: without exception, we long for a longer vacation.
If you recognize yourself in this statement, you're in luck, because Hèt Dispuut "In Vino Veritas" is here to provide in all your needs. On Wednesday the 4th of September 2019, another le-gen-dary Maand'lijksche Borrel will take place in the GEWIS-room 'Het Dakterras'. During this specific occasion you will have the chance to experience a true journey through the beautiful East by means of some amazing whiskies, next to the usual lovely wines and tasty bites I.V.V will provide. Extend your vacation with one more night together with Hèt Dispuut "In Vino Veritas" and open the academic year together!

Dear members, as the exams are getting closer and closer, we are already looking forward to all the nice things to do in the summer holiday. We guess that you are doing the same, being in doubt about which exotic island you will explore and what extravagant festivals you will visit. Well, Défi is here to make that decision a little easier for you because on Saturday the 3rd of August, we will go see the Canal Parade in Amsterdam!
The Canal Parade will start at 12:30 from the Scheepvaart, so we will gather around 12:00 at Amsterdam Central Station. The exact meeting time will be communicated to all participants later on. The Canal Parade will end at approximately 17:00, however the after parties will have already started by 16:00 so we will go and check some of those out as well. Note that if you want to arrive later or leave earlier, that is fine as well!
So if you are straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, curious, asexual, pansexual, gender-non-conforming, gender-fluid, non-binary, androgynous, all of the above or nothing from above, make sure that you subscribe!!
Note that the festival is completely free of charge, the only thing you have to pay for (and arrange yourself) is your travel to and from Amsterdam. However, you can get a group retour for approximately 5 euros a person*. So if you are interested in joining with this group deal, you can subscribe with that information and you can form groups yourself to buy this group retour.
Additional information on the Canal Parade can be found in this website https://www.amsterdamgaypride.nl/canal_parade/ or by watching last years aftermovie https://youtu.be/uzBkGUMRJOw . We hope to see all of you on the 3rd of August!!

Please note: bringing the board home means you are sober. If you are available, please fill in this form. If you have any questions, send a mail to orde@gewis.nl.
