TL;DR - Subscribe to continue receiving the Supremum (also active members!!!)

    Dearest readers,

Over the last 57 years, we have been creating the Supremum for you with much love and dedication. Every edition has a lot of time and care put into it, and we are proud every time we are able to deliver the next one. Knowing that you, the readers, also continue to enjoy receiving and reading our beloved magazine is truly special, and a great motivator for us.

Last year, we changed how we distribute the Supremum, to reduce some of the costs associated with printing and delivery of this magazine. Rather than an opt-out list, where all active members receive the Supremum unless they opt out, we now use an opt-in list. This means that if you want to receive the Supremum, even as an active member, you HAVE to subscribe to this opt-in list. If you don't, you will not receive a Supremum!

As always, there are no costs for you as a member; both printing and delivery are entirely free!

So, if you have enjoyed reading the Supremum, and want to continue to enjoy reading the Supremum, subscribe now!

  • Brainstorm: Distribution of weekends

    Wednesday 11 Feb. 12:40 - 13:20

    Meeting

After a lot of discussions at GMMs, it is time to evaluate the way money is distributed to weekends organised by organs of GEWIS. Currently, every organ gets a set of amount of money to spend, regardless of the content of the weekend or the number of participants. It can also be difficult for other organs to get budget to organise a new weekend. To find a solution, the current treasurer is organising a brainstorm session on the 11th of February during the lunch.

Join this session to share your opinions and help think of approaches to tackle this for the budget of next year! The session will be led by Hiske and gives room to think of different approaches: no idea is too crazy so do not be afraid to join.

  • Social drink

    Dear members of GEWIS,

Now that the cold winter months have been upon us for a while, we also find ourselves looking forward to the gentle spring that lies ahead. A time when flowers bloom once more, animals venture outside again, and nature rises in all its full glory. However, we still have some cold to endure - and what better way to do so than with love!

With this Monthly Drinks evening, we are already taking a little advance on the traditional midwinter celebration, Valentine’s Day, and will be celebrating love. Bring along your beloved and enjoy a Valentine’s cocktail together, chocolate-covered strawberries, or of course a glass of wine. Or come alone - and who knows, perhaps something will blossom at the drink.

We look forward to seeing you there.

    With due respect,

Dhr. Van Dijke Dispuut “In Vino Veritas”

Due to the winter weather you have been stuck inside your home. You are feeling very lonely, and you need to touch some grass. To make you feel better, we have the solution: Go hiking together! This year we will be going to Maarheeze!

  • I.V.V Decadent Weekend

    Fri. 12 Dec. 2025 (17:00) - Sun. 14 Dec. 2025 (12:00)

    Weekend

    Dear members of s.v. GEWIS,

As the final leaves surrender to the biting December wind, and student life once again descends into a bleak struggle between deadlines, dropping temperatures, and ever-rising beer prices, a faint glimmer of hope appears on the horizon. For it is precisely then, when morale is low and the need for comfort great, that Hèt Dispuut once more presents the solution: Decadent Weekend.

During the weekend of December 12th to 14th, you shall, together with the gentlemen of In Vino Veritas, take residence in a beautiful estate by the water in Sneek, hidden deep within the Frisian lands. There, where the wind blows freely and the wine flows richly, you will be immersed in an ambiance that could tempt even the most devoted minimalist into a life of indulgence.

On Friday, you will journey to the far North, where a warm welcome awaits. Glasses will clink, a meal will appear, and soon you will forget that study credits were ever a thing. Saturday afternoon, true to tradition, will be filled with experiences worthy of retelling to your future children. Meanwhile, a few members of Hèt Dispuut will remain behind to prepare an exquisite seven-course dinner, crafted with utmost care according to a menu designed by none other than our very own highly esteemed Dux Luxuriae.

For this majestic weekend, there will be room for only 29 guests. So polish your shoes, press your shirt, and allow yourself, one more time this year, to be tempted by all that truly makes life worth living.

    Sincerely, Praeses Peters

P.S. This year, it is possible for participants to travel to the venue using public transport. Please indicate if you would like to use public transport or if you want a seat in a car. Also please indicate  if you are in position to grant your car and bring fellow students. Be aware, this year the driving costs will be split among the persons driving with you.

P.P.S. The registration list will open Monday 20th of October 2025, at 6.35 p.m. If the 29 spots are filled within the hour, we will draw lots, otherwise we will use a "first come, first serve" rule.

P.P.P.S. Due to manpower, budget and space, we cannot guarantee that all dietary needs will be accommodated. Vegetarian is an option, but vegan probably not. If you have an allergy, we may contact you to discuss it, as we cannot rule out cross-contamination in the kitchen.

But living without your shoe is of course a little unhandy

So to make sure you are not feeling blue

You can make your shoe using paper and glue

And instead of the fireplace, just put your shoe here

And it will be filled with goodies, unless you have been bad this year

    Love,

    AC Piet

TL;DR: Make a shoe using your arts and crafts skills and the materials provided in the GEWIS room and check back in on your shoe throughout the next few weeks to find surpires in it.

Think you’ve got talent? Or at least think you’ve got something? Then this is your stage.

At GEWIS GOT TALENT, you can show off any act your heart desires. Maybe you can behind-the-8-ball cleanly into a Zen rollover with your balisong, drop a flawless Double Infinity on a pen, juggle Grolsch bottles or fold a bak. Perhaps you’re more  into singing the entire GEWIS song, or do you just want someone, anyone, to appreciate that you’ve memorized your OLL algorithms?

A highly professional jury (read: the BAC) will evaluate your performance based on flair, execution, and how many fingers you can still count after. Moreover, it's not just for the fame! There are actual prizes!

So grab your props, your courage, and maybe a towel for the stage, this is your moment to shine.

Note: To make something akin to a planning, we request you to sign up with a short description of your act.

    Tuesday 14 Oct. 2025 17:00 - 21:00

    Career

Step into the world of algorithmic trading – join the Optiver Coding Challenge! At Optiver, our teams tackle complex coding problems every day — designing algorithms that must perform under the pressure of fast-moving financial markets. Now it’s your turn to take on the challenge.

We’re inviting students to join a hands-on workshop where you’ll build a trading algorithm in Python that competes in real-time against other teams on our simulated exchange, Optibook.

Your mission? Create an algorithm that helps companies expand into new markets and compete to have the best-performing solution. While PnL (profit and loss) is a factor, it’s not the only criteria we’ll use to determine the winner.

This workshop is a simplified but realistic version of our daily work at Optiver. You’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of how trading really works, life at a trading firm, and the skills to build and test your own trading algorithm.

No prior trading experience? No problem. This session is designed for beginners — we’ll explain the basics of trading and finance, and our team will be on hand to support you throughout the challenge.

Protecting our health and our privacy during a pandemic

During COVID-19, we noticed how crucial it is to identify hotspots. Hotspots are areas with a high concentration of infected people. If no measures are taken the virus will spread quickly. The sooner a hotspot is identified, the better. During COVID-19, this information often came too late. • BAC x Défi Stocks Dies Borrel!

    Thursday 9 Oct. 2025 16:30 - 19:00

    Social drink

Ready to trade your way through the cocktail market? On the day Défi celebrates 6 years(!), your borrel card becomes an investment fund, and you’re the fund manager!

💰 Coctail Tokens = Your Currency 🍹 Your card holds a number of tokens you can invest in cocktails. The beauty of it? You decide your strategy. Want to put everything into one cocktail you love? Go for it. Prefer to spread your portfolio across a few different ones? That works too!

⚖ Supply, Demand & Strategy Some cocktails might become more popular than others. That means you’ll have to weigh your chances: wait it out and hope your favorite stays affordable, or “sell fast” and lock in your choice before demand drives up the price.

📈 Prices That Change It wouldn’t be a stock market without some volatility… From time to time, the token price of cocktails will shift. Will you hold out for a bargain, or go all-in on your favorite drink before the next price jump📉Market crash

📉Market crash But watch out, sooner or later the market will crash... Oh no! Now you cannot order any cocktail during this time… Only beer orrrr a mystery shot✨ Just tell the BAC a number and that bottle will be your shot! Will you get vodka or something nice? Let the surprise take over and give it a try! Don’t worry the market will open again soon.

🎯 The Big Question Will you play it safe, or take bold risks like a true Défi-er and bet on the cocktail exchange? Either way, your investments will never have tasted this good!

📢 For the Non-Bankers Among Us… Don’t worry if finance isn’t your thing, but start binging those YouTube stock tutorials. Here’s the simple version: each borrel card gets you three cocktails of your choice. Every time you “buy” one, it’s marked on your card. Easy as that.

    Sunday 5 Oct. 2025 09:00 - 20:00

    Ahoy! ⛵

Set your course for a grand adventure across the serene waters of Loosdrecht, where the wind will be our guide and the sails our wings. Step aboard the trusty Polyvalk, a sturdy vessel fit for both seasoned sailors and eager newcomers alike. With room for up to five souls per boat, there’s space for everyone, whether you wish to take the helm or simply relax and soak in the beauty of the day.

With several experienced sailors on board, you'll be in good hands throughout the voyage. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor yourself or completely new to the waters, there’s no need to worry! We’ll guide you through every step of the way. You’ll have the freedom to take part as much or as little as you like. If the weather is kind, take a refreshing dip in the lake or just sit back and enjoy the ride from the comfort of the boat. And don’t worry, if swimming isn’t for you, you can stay dry and still enjoy the adventure!

At midday, we’ll chart a course to a charming island for a well-deserved lunch break. Picture yourself stepping ashore, the sun shining overhead, surrounded by the calm of nature. We’ll relax, share stories, and enjoy good company as we take in the views and savor our meal.

    Wednesday 1 Oct. 2025 19:00 - 21:00

    Useful for first-year students

Throughout your academic career, you will need to use LaTeX many many times. Now, there are two paths you can take; get to know LaTeX, fall in love, get married, and live happily together throughout your studies. Or, refuse to use LaTeX until you are forced to, at which point you will be confused, disoriented, and frustrated with it. I think we both know which of those two options is preferable.

As a mathematics student, you will need to use LaTeX already in the first quartile, but computer science students will have to use it as well later this year. To prepare you properly for this, TRAIN is organizing a LaTeX training, during which you will be guided through the basics of how to use it for your homework assignments. **All you need to bring is your laptop!**

  • CC is looking for a Carnavals name for GEWIS!

    Wed. 1 Oct. 2025 (11:11) - Fri. 31 Oct. 2025 (23:59)

    Alaaf!

The Carnavals Committee is looking for a Carnaval name for GEWIS, and we need your help!

In the Netherlands, most cities that celebrate Carnaval take on a different name during this festive time. All of a sudden, we don’t talk about getting a Schrobbelèr shot in Tilburg — no, no, we get one in Kruikenstad! The stropdassenkroegentocht is not a thing in Eindhoven it is a big thing in Lampegat! You don’t celebrate vastenavend in Bergen op Zoom, we go to Krabbegat! Ever seen the parade in Breda, Den Bosch, Maastricht, or Sittard? Never! Maybe in Kielegat, Oeteldonk, Mestreech, or Zitterd though!

Even smaller towns have their own funny names, like Klompengat, Ganzegat, Toeterland, Kattegat, Narregat, Kakkersgat, Theebuikenland, Bommeldurp, Dwèrsklippelgat, Kaaiendonk… and we could go on and on, but we’ll spare you :)

So, as the CC, of course we want to have a beer at “GEWIS,” but it would be so much more fun to have lots of beers at... ???

Send in your ideas via this form:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSftKgvG0Hj5BupYFeGZeF1duZnHSRNYEBhPQk6hN5dCNGGjLA/viewform?usp=header

The Carnavals Committee will pick their favs and make a final poll for GEWIS to decide! The big reveal will be on 11/11 🎉

You have until October 31 at 23:59 to submit your ideas. If you have multiple ideas, don’t be afraid to send them all in!

  • How to survive TU/e systems

    Wednesday 3 Sep. 2025 12:40 - 13:20

    Useful for first-year students
    Education

After a hectic introduction week where you have (hopefully) made a lot of new friends it is time to really start your student life. And no student life without studying. However, you might already heard a lot of concepts you have never heard of, like "Canvas", "TE Timetable", "Plan App" or "Osiris". But don’t be afraid! There is no need to worry. Attending this training will teach you all the basics you need to know to survive all the software at the TU/e.

In case there are more then 70 people that want to attend, there will be a "first come, first serve" policy. In that case the remainder can view the session online.

Don’t forget to bring your laptop!

  • Maand'lijksche Borrel -- Opening Academic Year

    Monday 1 Sep. 2025 17:00 - 21:00

    Social drink
    Useful for first-year students
    Useful for master students

    Dear members of S.V. GEWIS,

The first newspaper reports of frost and discoloured leaves are landing on our doorsteps. A new season is upon us. The first sounds of deer in their rutting season are heard in the meadows. The new hunting season is here.

As is tradition, the "In Vino Veritas" Society invites you to its monthly drinks reception to open the academic year. As usual, wine will quench our thirst during the intellectual discussions that are the norm at the Society. This year, however, is extra special! For In Vino Veritas, this academic year is dedicated to hunting.

Deer hunting is an art that is not for everyone. However, as experts in the field, we will explain this drinks reception, this phenomenon, in detail. We invite you to join us on September 1st at 5:00 PM. We will provide a drinks menu, snacks, and, of course, wine.

We hope to see you in appropriate attire.

    Proost!

  • I.V.V Maand'lijksche “Spel met Ballen”

    Wednesday 13 Aug. 2025 16:30 - 20:30

    Dear GEWIS'ers,

As many of us are enjoying a well-deserved holiday and the summer is showing itself from its finest side, it is once again time for a familiar phenomenon: the annual “Spel met Ballen”.

Following the success of last year's edition, this event will once more be complemented by a touch of Maand'lijksche borrel. Athleticism and Burgundian indulgence go hand in hand, with high-quality wine and delightful delicacies to recover from the noble act of throwing balls.

Together with a partner, you are able to subscribe in order to participate in the official “Spel met Ballen” tournament and battle other teams for a chance to win the coveted trophy. Beware though, the subscription list closes the Sunday before the activity.

Don't worry though, if you're not up for playing a couple rounds on the field, you can also just come and enjoy the borrel.

We hope to see you on the field,

    Hèt Dispuut “In Vino Veritas”

    Useful for first-year students
    Useful for master students

On the 3rd of July, we will host the inauguration drink for the 44th board of GEWIS! During the inauguration drink, a lot of external associations, the department board, GEWIS bodies and members can come to congratulate the new board. We will celebrate their installation with a night full of free beers and amazing memories.

For the inauguration drink, we do need a lot of volunteers. We have to empty the room, protect the board and guestbook during the drink and bring the board home after the drink. We would like to know whether you are available for any of these tasks. Please note: bringing the board home means you are sober. If you are available, please fill in this form.

The obligatory infomeeting, at which everything about the order committee will be explained, takes place on Thursday June 19th from 12:40 till 13:20. The location will be announced later!

Note that for non-volunteers, the borrel starts around 19:00 (the internal part).

If you have any remaining questions, send a mail to orde@gewis.nl.
