Are you excited to spend your weekend in lovely nature and not afraid to engage in some adventurous activities, or just looking for a place to enjoy a cozy campfire all night long, or are you in for both? Then get ready for the B.O.O.M. Active Weekend of 2025!
This year, we will visit the Belgian ardennes. Here we have arranged some great activities for you, both on the Saturday and Sunday. We won’t spoil them yet, but examples from previous years are climbing, traversing a trail between treetops and canoeing. Next to this, there is more to enjoy during the weekend, you can “stream” in the river at the campsite (ask B.O.O.M. members for details) and in the evening there will be a campfire to keep you warm. Since we are on a campsite, we will sleep in cozy tents.
You don’t have to bring/buy your own food or drinks as this is all inclusive during the weekend! On Friday you have the opportunity to taste Sako’s famous pasta salad, and on Saturday you can enjoy a nice BBQ. Next to that, we will arrange a sufficient supply of beers and soda (and coffee for the tough mornings, don’t worry).
The weekend will take place from 6th till 8th of June 2025, if you want to join please subscribe below. As we need enough cars to drive everyone to Belgium, people with a car available will be given priority if necessary. If you have a car available, please indicate this and mention how many places (including yourself) you have in the car. We would also like to know if you have a tent. We will not make tent groups but this might give other people some help in asking around to find a place to sleep :) We have spots to bring 45 students to our awesome weekend, so subscribe as soon as possible, first come first serve! When there is a lot of interest, we may be able to scale up, but we cannot promise anything yet!
Met takken!

So, you’ve found yourself in your house shying away from the stormy, cold weather outside, exaggerating your own anguish and thus amplifying it. The only thing you can do about it now, is to find some friends so you don’t have to suffer together. Sadly your friends are far away and you’ll have to walk all by yourself to get to them. What to do now?
Luckily we have the solution for you: walk together! You won’t be lonely this winter, as you’ll be going on the best weekend of the year, the GEDWAAL weekend! We will do a nice hike together through the beautiful landscapes of Beek.
After this nice refreshing jaunt, you’ll be able to take some time to reheat your innards for a while, after which you’ll be busy competing in a fabulous Saturday-night activity. Taking a well-deserved rest will charge us right back up for a spectacular activity on Sunday, which will lead us to the end of the weekend.
There is an option to bring your luggage with you while hiking, which will grant you a huge discount of €5!!!!! If there are too many people who want to put their luggage in the car, we will do a draw amongst the ones who are also able to hike with it.
We will be traveling to our location by train, and will be gathering at Eindhoven Centraal.
Initially there will be 25 spots available, of which 8 spots can leave their luggage in the car. These numbers might be increased if interest is shown. If these spots are filled up before 17 April, 2025 at 12:00 PM, a draw will happen. Otherwise it is first come first serve. At the draw, priority will be given to those who can bring their luggage on the hike.

Every year the introduction committee chooses a theme for their year's introduction week, with this year being no different. Of course we kept our theme a secret so that we could reveal it at this very special social drink. During the borrel we will show a beautiful award-winning video to elaborate on the chosen theme.
Now for the part that you actually care about: After we reveal the theme, there will be a FREE!!! keg of beer to celebrate the announcement. On top of that, we also have an intro-themed borrelcard containing 2 cocktails and 2 shots, and that for only €4.50!!! (Not buying the card is basically stealing from yourself.)
Even though you all already know that the theme will be Christmas, we still hope you show up to enjoy the social drink. With lots of love, Intro25
Wednesday 21 May. 2025 19:30 - 23:00
Dear Gepeupel,
For the past few years, we have traditionally seen a themed cantus organized by the sjaarzen around this time of year. After all these iterations of themed cantussen, it is time once again for a traditional cantus, organized by the real specialists, without all the bells and whistles of themes and sjaarzen. A cantus as it was meant to be: a celebration of an age-old tradition, embraced by students from the Netherlands and Flanders alike. This tradition originated in monasteries, where people would dine while singing songs and enjoying splendid beers and wines. While dinner is no longer part of the modern student variant (also known as a beercantus), it remains a cozy evening where we joyfully sing songs and drink beers together.
Even though this is a traditional cantus, our association still has something to celebrate. From this day onward, GEWIS will have known more days with the existence of In Vino Veritas than without. This makes it a perfect occasion to celebrate the many years the association has been delighted by the presence of In Vino Veritas.
We hope to see you there!
Wednesday 21 May. 2025 12:30 - 13:30

NextGen Smart Meters – Intelligence and Security at the Edge of the Grid
The NextGen Smart Meters project is a major leap forward in preparing the Dutch electricity grid for a future of decentralized and electrified energy use. With the rapid growth of solar panels, electric vehicles, and heat pumps, the low-voltage grid is under increasing pressure. Managing these distributed energy flows requires smarter, real-time insights from deep within the grid.
To meet this challenge, millions of advanced smart meters—each with edge computing capabilities—are being deployed across the country. These meters are designed to do more than just measure consumption in the future; they actively monitor and analyze local grid conditions, helping operators better balance demand and supply on a neighborhood scale.
Infiniot plays a key role in enabling this transformation. Carlo and Joost ensure that the software running on and around these meters is thoroughly and continuously tested. At the same time, we implement robust security measures to safeguard sensitive data and protect this critical infrastructure from potential threats.
With our contribution, NextGen Smart Meters are not only smarter, but also more reliable and secure—paving the way for a flexible and resilient energy system fit for the future.
Please note that our primary focus is on the Dutch Energy market and therefore this lecture will be most relevant for Dutch students. However, all students are welcome and the lecture will be given in English.
Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory! There are 135 spots only with first come first serve and GEWIS members get priority. You can earn 1 my future activity with this lecture.

Have you always wanted to learn all the beer-playings from the echte knowers? Always wanted to feel how it is when — POEF! — a freshie drink is in your hand the moment your glass says: "I'm done"? Then the old-BAC borrel is the happening where you must be.
One time per year, the old-members of the BAC change their spot behind the bar for a moment of main character energy in front of the tap. This is the moment where they go all out with their yearlong borrel-experiences and deeply trained drink-knowledge, and share it with the new gen. They show how it must, and more importantly: how it went down back in the days.
If you come for the nostalgics, for the gezelligness, or just to upgrade your drink-technique to pro-level — the old-BAC borrel has something for every-wanter. Expect an evening full of laughings, story times from the dusty closets, unplanned game-vibes and of course: a glass that is never empty. NEVER.
So mark your agenda’s and be there on 9 May, because this is one for the books. You really, really don’t want to miss this epicness. See you in the borrel-zone!
Thursday 8 May. 2025 16:30 - 19:00
Hi Borrelaars!
On Thursday, May 8th, it will be that time again, the Thursday of the BAC Lustrumweek! And what would the BAC be if there was no drink on Thursday?
This year we go back to basics, but in a big jacket. With a sizable drink card in your pocket and a nice classic drink in your hand, it is a recipe for socializing and entertainment!
Wednesday 7 May. 2025 18:30 - 21:30
Attention beer lovers! In honor of the lustrum the BAC will organise a craft beer tasting. Let your taste buds be surprised by a carefully selected set of special beers. The selection is made based on 3 categories: Uniqueness, accessibility, and drinkability. Whether you are a hardened beer expert or are just in for a good time: this is the chance to enjoy some craft beers together that you've probably never had before!
Of course, these beers will go together with a fitting snack. Furthermore, for each of the beers, a short, interesting story will be told about the brewery, the beer and/or the brewing process.
For those interested, some of the tasting notes at the preselection were: "Interesting!"
"Too strong to be the second beer"
"This is not an IPA..."
Included in the price are 5 craft beers and the accompanying snacks.
NOTE: there is a limited initial capacity of 40; which may be increased to 48.

Graduating at ASML: How I Trained an AI Model to Improve Computer Chip Manufacturing By Thomas Kamminga
Until this summer, I was in your shoes as a mathematics student. I completed my studies with a graduation project at ASML, where I trained a graph neural network to denoise measurements used in the chip manufacturing process. In this presentation, I will share how I ended up at ASML, explain the process of manufacturing a computer chip, discuss what I tried to achieve with my model, and, of course, delve into some exciting mathematics!

Tuesday 6 May. 2025 11:00 - 17:30
Do you think your craft beer tastes just a bit better from a specially designed glass? Or do you prefer to take a shot from a shot glass with your favorite logo on it? Or maybe you just want a nice souvenir from the BAC Lustrum Week 2025? Then this activity is perfect for you!
On Tuesday, May 6th, you’ll have the unique chance to etch your own glass in the GEWIS room. Anything is possible (depending of course your drawing skills); think of: your name, or “if you’re reading this…” or the logo of your favorite football club.
So bring your own glass or buy one for €5 from us via SudoSOS (note: limited stock, so first come, first served!) and drop by between 11:00 and 16:30 to etch your glass. And most importantly, don’t forget to test out your masterpiece at the bar afterward!

Dear reader,
Now that the terraces are filling up again, the days are growing longer, and the scent of blossoms mingles with that of freshly poured pilsner, the moment draws near when we gather in the spirit of connection, tradition, and – not unimportantly – democratic duty.
On Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, Hèt Dispuut In Vino Veritas will host its Monthly Drinks. A quintessentially Dutch occasion where we not only raise a glass to spring, but also come together to vote for our new praeses – the captain who will steer our ship through the turbulent waters of study and student life in the coming term.
From 5:00 PM onwards, you are warmly welcome at het Dakterras. The society will provide an unforgettable evening full of traditional Dutch snacks, refreshing spring drinks, and of course, the ballots.
Let your voice be heard, raise your glass with your fellow revelers, and celebrate with us the beginning of a new chapter in the society’s history.
See you on the 30th – with your vote, your drink, and your comradeship.
Cheers!

Reading code is much harder than writing code. Yet, a line of code is read more often than it is being written. Thus, we need documentation, which is read less! Wouldn't it be great to use this documentation more effectively? Enter Model Driven Engineering, where the model represents both documentation and (part of) the software. At Sioux we've developed our own IDE to tackle this problem and have successfully applied it to several projects. Come and listen what this perhaps strange programming method has to offer, and we might change your thoughts what a programming language actually is.

However beautiful the Netherlands may be, sometimes we need to get out for a weekend. Unfortunately, we are poor students and don’t have money to book a flight. Before you start to wail in agony, we can present you a better method, a cheaper method, a more fun method: Hitchhiking!
For only 50 measly euros you can make your way all the way to Hamburg!
Though you should know this will not be a leisurely voyage. The goal is not just to get to your destination, but to do it as fast as possible. Find your favorite friend, piece together some cardboard signs and hop in a strangers car! There will be challenges to fulfill along the way which can improve your final time!
Since we don’t have infinite stamina and are hungover on Sunday morning, we will all travel back by train together on Sunday evening.
To help you all on your way and make sure that you build the extensive skill set needed for hitchhiking, we will be organizing an information session with some general information and a couple of helpful tips.
If there are more than 15 duo's within 24 hours, a draw will be held. After this, the subscription will be "first come, first served". Do make sure to subscribe, since there will be a waiting list!
In contrast to previous years, you now both need to subscribe with the same team name.

UiPath is a leading Automation vendor providing a complete software platform to help organizations efficiently automate business processes. A core component of the UiPath platform is UiPath Process Mining, which helps to discover opportunities for process optimization and Robotic Process Automation through state of the art Process Mining and ML techniques. However, insights derived from these techniques are only as powerful as the visualizations they are presented in. Some of these visualizations are explored, researched and prototyped through student graduation projects. In this lunch lecture, Dennis Brons will walk you through how such a visualization project runs from start to finish. The project in question focuses on interactive visual comparison of multiple process executions.

Dearest Reader,
We (the Supremum committee) hope you are enjoying reading this edition of Supremum; and all previous ones <3. As always, a lot of work went into creating it for you. Creating the Supremum is something we gladly do with love and we are always very proud of every edition. It is truly special to know that something we worked hard on is received (and hopefully read) by so many GEWIS members. We thank you for this.
In the last year we have been looking into ways to cut some costs for GEWIS. Therefore, we have decided to make an opt-in list. If you would like to keep receiving the Supremum on your doorstep every time a new comes out, please make sure to subscribe to this activity. This also counts for active GEWIS members! If you do not subscribe to the list, you will not receive a Supremum!
So if you enjoy reading the Supremum and would like to have the next editions delivered to your doorstep, make sure to subscribe to the opt-in list on the GEWIS website activity page, or go to gew.is/supremum.
Note for graduates: if you indicated this year you want a Supremum renewal, you don't have to subscribe for the opt-in list.

Wednesday 19 Feb. 2025 18:00 - 21:00
It's morning in Miller's Hollow. You wake up to the sound of screams: "The mayor is dead!" "Werewolves must have done this!" "They'll pay for this!" The town is in turmoil. Will you help Miller's Hollow through this crisis? Or are you secretly a werewolf?
The AC Werewolves ACtivity is bACk once more! For those who don't know it, Werewolves of Miller's Hollow is a social deduction game like Maffia. The townsfolk try to find and execute the werewolves who devour one of them every night. The werewolves want to take out the town for their food and safety.
For those who don't survive the chaos (or those who prefer a faster paced game), we have the one night version as well. Or you can chat with some snACks while you watch the chaos evolve.
See you on the 19th! Hugs, AC
Tuesday 18 Feb. 2025 18:00 - 21:00

Défi is organizing a lecture together with Studium Generale during the lunch break of February 12! You get a USE point for attending! You can subsribe here
Do you know the difference between a vulva and a vagina? And how much do you know about the human reproductive system? Sexologist Marieke Dewitte discusses everything related to our sexual anatomy and its relationship to sexual pleasure.
We all know what our own genitals look like, and maybe some of us have seen those belonging to others as well. But despite sex education being part of most high school curricula, general knowledge about our reproductive organs is often lacking. We confuse facts with myths, we only know the bare minimum about sexual intercourse, and the anatomy of these organs is a mystery to many of us.
It is high time to change this, so take the opportunity to join this crash course in human anatomy, specifically about the genitals and the diversity of the human body. In the midst of it all, you will also learn more about sexuality, getting aroused and enjoying yourself during sex.
Dr. Marieke Dewitte is a clinical psychologist and sexologist. She is an assistant professor at the Department of Clinical Psychology at Maastricht University, where she has established a unique sex lab to study sexual interactions between couples. Her research focuses on the basic mechanisms of sexual functioning, interactions between partners during sexual arousal, and attachment in relation to sexual responses.

At Anago, we create positive changes in people's lives every day. We help public organisations smartly tailor their processes to a better citizen experience. And that makes our society a little better!
With 25 years of experience, we develop smart planning software that makes complex processes a lot easier, allowing organisations to work more efficiently and effectively.
Our development team builds its own no-code platform, which our consultants use to model software for various customers and sectors. And thus making a real impact! For example, faster processing times for asylum seekers (IND), preventive care for children in deprived neighbourhoods (youth health care), and contributing to better education.
Want to learn more? Please come and join the super interesting lecture from Thomas and Fraser about Clean Architecture in Practice.

After last year's success, we had to. If Feestcafé "De BAC" is so great, where is the sequel? At GEWIS of course, on February 6th 2025! Howeverrrrr instead of renovating into a cheap Dutch party pub, the GEWIS room will now change into a true 70s Disco (with some modern flair that falls under the laws of artistic freedom)! With a beautiful radje, an unexpected snack, music as old as our parents, and of course many, many lights, it will be the best possible evening to finish your exam weeks!
To keep the borrel activity accessible for everyone, we will not ask money at the door. Also, the beer price will not change and stay at the low price of €1 (you do not see that at Stratumseind!). To still have some income, the BAC is organizing a fundraiser. Everyone who contributes €10 or more, receives an exclusive Feestcafé "De BAC" - 70s Disco Edition VIP card, which works with SudoSOS! (max 100pcs, first come first served) You can contribute using SudoSOS. With the income of the fundraiser, the BAC will rent a disco floor!!!

Dear esteemed member of GEWIS,
With the year (almost) passed, people set their sights on all that is to come in the upcoming year. Many have a vision with grand goals in mind. Running a marathon, finding true love, or finally finishing that degree.
While these goals often bring about major changes in the daily order of life, Fraternity "In Vino Veritas" still provides a constant. A warm place where you, with your fellow student, can discuss this new direction of your life phase, with a glass of (sparkling) wine or a cocktail. "In Vino Veritas" therefore invites you to toast to the new year at the Month'like Drink on Monday, January 6, 2025.
The Fraternity of GEWIS welcomes you from 5:00 PM in 't Dakterras at the Month'like Drink to toast to your new endeavors. The Fraternity will provide festive wine, cocktails, and some snacks to complement the atmosphere.
Yours sincerely, Quaestor Henkemans
P.S.: In an earlier version of the above text, the Fraternity offered cocktails. However, due to the geopolitical situation, this part of the event has been cancelled.
Thursday 19 Dec. 2024 16:30 - 21:00

We will see you on the 19th of December from 16:30 until 21:00
Please wear gala clothing!
Thursday 19 Dec. 2024 12:00 - 14:00
The Information meeting about a board year at GEWIS already took place a few weeks ago. Here we explained the general tasks and expectations of a board member, however we did not discuss all the details about the functions. So we understand you might have some questions, or that you are maybe still doubting between functions.
No worries, the 43rd board got you covered. We are organizing a board speed date activity, with the following functions: Chair, Secretary, treasurer, Internal Affairs Officer, Education Officer, External Affairs Officer and 7th function. We advise you to go to the speed dates open minded, some functions might surprise you. But also make sure to ask any questions you might have
If you missed the previous information meeting, you are still welcome to join the speeddates. In that case don't forget to send an email to ithinkiammadeofkandie@gewis.nl so that we know how many people we can expect!
Note: This event is purely for you to learn more about a board year at GEWIS, no commitments will be made yet by attending this activity.

NOTE FOR HALLOWEEKEND PARTICIPANTS: If you have attended our Halloweekend in the past, you have already solved our murder mystery. HOWEVER, we also have another murder mystery (not created by us) for you to solve!! Please keep this in mind when forming teams, and remember not to spoil the fun for others :(
Rumor has it that a terrible crime has shaken GEWIS to its core: there has been a MURDER! :O
Do you enjoy solving puzzles? Of course you do! You are a GEWIS'er! We need your help to discover who committed this horrifying deed! Who killed a member of Défi?*
I challenge you and your teammates to unravel the clues, and solve the case in our self-crafted Défi Murder Mystery!
To get those detective brains working, we’ve got a bloody, delicious offer for you! You can purchase a cocktail card to enjoy our mystery drinks. But that’s not all! Snackies are on the house to keep your brain sharp. So get your fellow students, form teams of 3 to 6 people, and dive into the murder scenes!
(The murder mystery takes about 3 hours, so we might finish earlier than 22:30 but since we have to check your answers we added a little bit of a time buffer)
*Disclaimer: No one was harmed in the making of this murder mystery. Absolutely no murders occurred, nor were attempted. All "victims" are alive and well, currently sipping cocktails at the bar or dozing off blissfully. Any scenes of crime were purely fictional and carefully crafted by members of Défi with a lot of laughter about fake names.

Are you ready for a realistic and immersive experience in the world of logistical problems? This case represents the kind of challenges we, as consultants at Pipple, deal with on a daily basis. You are approached by a colleague to join in on a logistical issue with a client, where the exact problem is not immediately clear. You receive a series of emails from a fictional client named LogiSolutions, filled with complaints about deliveries and service.
Your challenge? Identify the core problems and develop a presentation on the 'picking process.' Through role-playing with key players, such as the warehouse manager and the head of IT, you’ll uncover subtle clues. Something seems to be wrong with the 'picking rounds,' but what exactly? Dive deeper into the data to identify inconsistencies and issues. This case offers a unique opportunity to apply your analytical skills to realistic scenarios and provides insight into the complexity of the daily work of a data consultant.
Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory! There are 20 spots only with first come first serve and GEWIS members get priority. You can earn 2 my future activities with this lecture.

Get ready, as the next edition of the SNiC conference is just around the corner, taking place on the 27th of November. This year’s theme is SustainabilIT, where we’ll explore how the IT sector can lead and innovate in sustainability.
First, for those of you that aren’t all too familiar, a little more about the SNiC: The SNiC takes place yearly in November, in a different city every year. It attracts hundreds of students from all throughout the country. It’s a single-day event where lots of speakers come and give an interesting talk about state-of-the-art technology or practices in the aforementioned fields.
Not only is the day filled with exciting presentations about innovation, during the breaks and after the event you’re also able to have a chat with any of the participating companies of the conference. They can tell you a lot about career-related questions and projects that their companies are currently working on related to the themes of the conference.
With your SNiC ticket, you'll have full access to a day packed with insightful talks on the future of sustainable IT, and of course plenty of coffee, drinks, and snacks. Tickets are available starting September 30th. Visit our website for all the details: https://sustainabilit.snic.nl.
Stay tuned for exciting speaker announcements on our Instagram @snic_sustainabilit. We’re thrilled to share that Emiel Kwakkel will be our keynote speaker, offering practical insights into how we can make the IT industry greener.
For only €10,- you can join this congress. This is a reduction of the full ticket price, meant to make the SNiC more accessible to our members. If you subscribe but don't show up, you will have to pay the full ticket price of €25,-.
There are only 85 tickets available. If there are more subscriptions than tickets on Friday 11 October at 12:00, there will be a draw among everyone who is subscribed at that moment. After that, the tickets will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis. If then the amount of subscriptions has exceeded the ticket amount, people will be put on a waiting list. Your name and e-mail address will be shared with Stichting Nationaal Informatica Congres. They will process this data in accordance with their privacy policy.
Students will receive 2 MyFuture points for participation in this activity. Please bring your campus card.

It's the last Friday of the members' lustrum week! And you know what that means: as soon as the clock strikes 4:30 PM, it’s time for a legendary Friday afternoon drink, the lustrum week VrijMi’Vo!
The fridge will be well-stocked with beer and specialty brews. But that’s not all—make sure to be on time because at 5:00 PM, we’ll be tapping a free (yes, free!) keg of Hangende Harry!
Throughout the afternoon and evening, there will be plenty of opportunities to order some food, play beer pong, or enjoy chats at the bar. We hope to see you Friday afternoon through Friday evening at the GEWIS bar!
Wednesday 20 Nov. 2024 16:00 - 18:00
Are you disappointed that the Batavierenrace is not happening this year? Do not worry! The Member lustrum week has you covered with our very own version of the Batavierenrace; the Batabierenrace.
Starting from Europe’s smartest square kilometer—the High Tech Campus—you’ll run alongside the beautiful Dommel river, finishing at the iconic Markthal on the Eindhoven University of Technology campus. This scenic trail is around 6km long, and you’ll tackle it with a buddy.
But what’s the Batavierenrace without an epic party? Sadly, we are a bit limited on resources, but we have got something just as exciting planned. Inspired by the legendary Scooter brothers and their “100 shots, 100 hits, 100 toeters, 100 keer escalatie,” we present: "6 beers, 6 kilometers, 6 adtjes voor onderweg."
The challenge? Run the 6 kilometer trail with your buddy and a crate of 12 beers. There are only three rules:
Finish the trail.Finish your crate by the end of the trail.Drink two beers per kilometer. How you achieve these goals is up to you, as long as you do not waste any drinks. Fail to follow the rules? You may face consequences!
Not into drinking? No problem! You can still join the fun without alcohol or opt for an alcohol-free crate to run with.
So, are you ready to run, drink, and make some unforgettable memories? Subscribe to the Batabierenrace as soon as possible!
Tuesday 19 Nov. 2024 18:00 - 22:30

It is the Tuesday of after GLOW, and you know what that means: light art at GEWIS! And how can we do that better than with beer? Are you an experienced and trained borrelaar? Are you able to beat the horns of the Gebroeders Scooter without perishing in the process? And are you able to stay in bed Wednesday morning? Then we summon you for the biggest challenge of the year!
We would like to invite the few fools brave enough to walk down this road with us. There will be new and special light effects provided by AViCo and the ABC, there will be beer provided by the BAC, there will be defeat, and there will be victors. Rise up to the challenge! Raise your shot glass and do your best!
At 18:00, we will start our challenge with a first 100-minute run. After the first battle, we will have a break of about an hour to enjoy some food from Snackcenter Eindhoven. Then, once we all have recovered our inner strength, we will partake in the second 100-minute adventure.
Because we start somewhat late, we kindly ask everyone to also snack or eat something beforehand. Also (as implied), please do not drink any alcohol before the activity starts. There are initially 30 spots available, but this might be increased. If the activity is full one hour after the subscription list opens, there will be a draw.
Due to the nature of the activity, we strongly advise that only experienced borrelaars join the activity. If you are unsure, please contact the Member lustrum week initiative.

Each year the (old-)treasurers of GEWIS go on a weekend away to celebrate their function. This year they went to Schiedam, the capital city of the jenever. Here they learned all about jenever, what it is, how it is distilled, the different kinds of jenever, whether the Bokma is already cold, and much more.
That is why we want to transfer this knowledge to all other GEWIS members on this first day of the Member lustrum week. At this jenever tasting you have the opportunity to taste 6 different jenevers (and relatives), while enjoying a bite and an informative talk about the particular drink.
Unfortunately we cannot provide the jenevers for free, that is why we ask for a contribution of €11,- to cover the costs.
Note that there is space for only 30 people to join, so make sure to sign up soon!

At the Eindhoven office of UiPath, we are mainly focusing on the Process Mining product. However, Process Mining is only one of the products in the broader suite. Other products focus, for example, on robots that automate tasks or help you process documents with AI. Process Mining projects are usually using data from source systems, but recently we have worked on a project that is using our own data. We combine data from the source systems with data generated by using UiPath automations. In this lunch lecture, Celine Verhoef will walk you through the process from design to implementation.
Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory! There are 135 spots only with first come first serve and GEWIS members get priority. You can earn 1 my future activity with this lecture.

There is a lot you can do in half a minute. You could crACk some mACadamia nuts, fACt check your friends, or play a round of 30 Seconds! The latter is the most fun of course, so we decided to turn 30 Seconds an ACtivity.
For the people who don't know 30 seconds, here's a quick explanation. You play in teams (or subscribe alone to be paired up with a random other player). When it's your team's turn, one teammate gets a card with 5 words (or names, phrases etc). That teammate gets 30 seconds to describe these words to their team. They are not allowed to use the words themselves, parts of them (words like 'and' and 'the' are fine), or translations. 'Sounds like' hints are not allowed either. Your team earns a step forward on the board for every guessed word. There is a die as well that reduces the steps forward by 0, 1, or 2 steps. The goal of the game is to reach the finish line first. We will play in English with self-made cards. As we will still need to something to play on, we kindly ask you if you would be willing to bring your (Dutch) 30 Seconds board game.
If you're the type of person who enjoys playing a fun game with GEWIS friends (and maybe make some new ones in the process), you do not want to miss this! If you enjoy tasty snACks, we will provide those as well.
It is also possible to join us for dinner at 17.45h in the GEWIS room. We will order Fuso Wok. You can add your "Wok"-dish to the "Eating List" sign-up on this ACtivity before the 15th of October at 13:42. You can pay using a debit/credit card.
See you there!
Hugs,
the AC
Tuesday 15 Oct. 2024 12:40 - 13:20
During this lunch lecture, Arno and Pebble will give a presentation about the mathematical consulting work that is done at Sioux Mathware. After a general introduction of the company, two projects will be presented: Arno will discuss work that we did to optimize garbage collection in Amsterdam. Although this may sound simple on first glance, many factors can be considered, such as the time at which Ajax plays their matches, making this a very interesting optimization problem.
After that, Pebble will talk about the internship that she is currently doing at Mathware. She has looked into using generative machine learning to create realistic X-ray images from simulated data. As this is a project in the medical domain, it is very important to make sure that no relevant information is altered that could lead to a misdiagnosis. Additionally, she can tell you all about what doing an internship at Sioux Mathware looks like.
Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory! There are 135 spots only with first come first serve and GEWIS members get priority. You can earn 1 my future activity with this lecture.
Mon. 14 Oct. 2024 (20:00) - Tue. 15 Oct. 2024 (02:00)
POV: You are a first-year international student in a new country with all new people around you. You need to adapt to Dutch culture and don't get any chance to show off your own. Luckily for you, that time has passed.
During this amazing evening you can show everyone that your country also knows how to party! You can dress up however you want to represent your culture and show off your favorite traditional dance moves.
You will get a nice welcome shot when you enter. Make sure to come on time though because the first 100 beers are free!
Enjoy the music (which we will make sure is not all Dutch, don't worry), and party with your friends (who you should also encourage to buy a ticket). Show us your heritage!
Buy your ticket at an ODC member!
P.S. You don't have to be a first-years, please still come if you aren't :)

Hello GEWIS members!
The time has finally come: to finish Défi's spectacular first lustrum week, we have put all of our enthusiasm and time into organizing our first external GEWIS weekend, dedicated to our lustrum.
We wouldn't be Défi if we made subscribing to our weekend somewhat out of your comfort zone, which is why we are keeping the location a secret, as well as the activities that are planned for the weekend. Are you willing to take that risk with us?
For GEWIS members the weekend will cost 55 euros. For graduates this price is doubled, leading to 110 euros. What you will get for this, is the following. Of course, a two-nights-stay at a beautiful location is included. On Friday evening, we will have a buffet at the location. Both on Saturday and Sunday morning, there will be breakfast provided by the location. Furthermore, we have two activities organized for you throughout the weekend.
Note that we will go to the location using public transportation. We accounted for this on the budget, so don't be afraid that you will need to pay more if you don't have a weekend-free subscription.
If this sounds like music in your ears, don't hesitate to subscribe, since we would love to take you on our exciting first lustrum weekend!
With mystical regards,
Défi
There is a limited capacity of 23 spots for this weekend. It is in principle a first come first serve activity. If more than 23 people are subscribed on Sunday August 4th at 23:59, a draw will be done between the people who are subscribed at that point.
Thursday 10 Oct. 2024 16:30 - 20:00
Dear members, Mark your calendars, because Thursday, October 9th is a night you do not want to miss! We are coming together to celebrate our first lustrum in style, and what better way to do it than with a cosmic twist? Get ready for an unforgettable evening, with our Défi Destiny Dies Drink
As the stars align, we’re excited to welcome a fortune teller who will be gazing into the future to reveal what the universe has in store. Rumor has it, his/her/their readings may suggest a sky full of shots in our near future—so keep your eyes on the horizon!
But that’s not all. To help you cool down from the heat of the celebration, we’ll have some refreshing slush puppies on hand to quench your thirst and make sure everyone stays comfortably chill throughout the night.
Whether you’re coming for the fun, the fortune-telling, or just a taste of stellar drinks, this evening promises to be out of this world!
Love and hugs Défi
Thursday 10 Oct. 2024 10:00 - 11:30
We hope you have been enjoying the Défi lustrum week so far and that you are not too hungover from yesterdays cantus! 🍻
To help you start the day and prepare your stomach for our upcoming borrel this afternoon we provide you with a very yummy hangover breakfast (or brunch, depends who’s asking)!
Ofcourse, we would not be Défi if this brunch was not a bit outside the box so don't expect the classic hangover breakfast sandwiches 🥪. However, this brunch will be just as good or maybe even better! Did we already mention it's free? Even more reason to join us! 💜
Subscription is not mandatory, but helps us get an estimate of how many people will join the breakfast. If a lot of people walk in without subscribing, people with a subscription will get preference.
We have a vegetarian option 🌱, but we can unfortunately not take into account other food preferences. Hope to see you there :)
Hugs, Defi
Wednesday 9 Oct. 2024 19:00 - 22:00
The day has finally arrived, the day we've all been waiting for... Défi turns 5 years old today! Naturally, this day has to be celebrated big, and what is a better celebration than singing songs together on our birthday? As a 5-year-old, Défi loves to dress up for a masquerade cantus, which you can join us for on this beautiful, yet mystical Wednesday, October 9th. Knowing Défi, this cantus will not be like other cantusses you've joined in the past, and one change in that is the type of drink: aside from the regular beer, you can also join this cantus while drinking paardenkut (a mix of Apfelkorn and sparkling water)! It has to be noted, though, that there is no possibility to switch between beer and paardenkut during the cantus. Of course, you can also join this cantus with a water ticket.
To obtain a ticket, make sure to approach a Défi member or the board, and we'll see you at our masquerade cantus on the 9th of October!
With mystical regards, Dispuut Défi
P.S.: The cantus itself starts at 19 o'clock, but the doors open at 18:45. Be on time, otherwise the praesidium is not happy...
Note: There are 70 tickets available for this activity. When it's sold out, it's sold out. You can get a ticket from another person if they decide to cancel, but mention that to a Défi member so they can change the name on the subscription list.
Remark: In the costs, b/pk stands for beer/paardenkut, and w stands for water.

Monday 7 Oct. 2024 16:30 - 19:00
On this afternoon, the Défi lustrum week will officially start! And the bravest among us will join Défi on an abseiling adventure of Vertigo! This is the chance to challenge our natural fear of heights, and to see the campus from a whole new perspective. While that sounds exciting, we understand it can be scary to step out of your comfort zone. But you don’t have to worry, because once you have successfully completed the abseil, Défi, Wolfpack and the BAC will welcome you back on the ground with a nice cold drink in your hand. We will gather all the victors and celebrate their succes at this victory borrel.
There is also good news for those who were unable to participate in the abseiling activity. The victory borrel is open for all GEWIS members so that we can celebrate the succes stories together. At the start of the borrel, you can even watch the last group making their way down Vertigo. Meanwhile, Wolfpack will make sure that there are some nice beers and sodas while cheering the last group on (rumour has it that they bought a keg for you all).
So whether you want to celebrate our lustrum, your abseiling succes or if you want to cheer the victors on from a distance, we hope to see you at the borrel!
(Do note that you can not drink alcohol before you go abseiling!! If you do, you are no longer allowed to go abseiling.)
Monday 7 Oct. 2024 11:00 - 17:00
Dear member,
Picture this: you, standing at the top of one of the tallest buildings on campus, heart racing, as you prepare to descend into the thrill of a lifetime. Five years ago, Défi organized abseiling from Vertigo, which was the final step for Défi to become a fraternity.
Soon, Défi will turn five years old. To kick off our Lustrum week, we are going to abseil from Vertigo again in collaboration with the Eindhoven Student Alpine Club (ESAC) and Wolfpack!
But the excitement doesn’t end when your feet touch the ground! Once you’ve successfully made your descent, you’ll be welcomed back with a well-earned borrel. Gather with fellow adventurers, share your stories of triumph, and toast to an unforgettable day. Rumour has it that Wolfpack has bought a keg for you all.
Note that there are only 90 spots available, so be quick to subscribe! If there are more subscriptions before Thursday, September 26, 23:59, there will be a draw. You can indicate whether you prefer the morning or afternoon, based on which we will get a timeslot assigned. However, please keep this date as open as possible in your schedule.
Curious what this will look like? Read and see what it looked like five years ago!

Ahoy! ⛵
Set your course for a grand adventure across the serene waters of Loosdrecht, where the wind will be our guide and the sails our wings. Step aboard the trusty Polyvalk, a sturdy vessel fit for both seasoned sailors and eager newcomers alike. With room for up to five souls per boat, there’s space for everyone, whether you wish to take the helm or simply relax and soak in the beauty of the day.
With several experienced sailors on board, you'll be in good hands throughout the voyage. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor yourself or completely new to the waters, there’s no need to worry—we’ll guide you through every step of the way. You’ll have the freedom to take part as much or as little as you like. If the weather is kind, take a refreshing dip in the lake or just sit back and enjoy the ride from the comfort of the boat. And don’t worry—if swimming isn’t for you, you can stay dry and still enjoy the adventure!
At midday, we’ll chart a course to a charming island for a well-deserved lunch break. Picture yourself stepping ashore, the sun shining overhead, surrounded by the calm of nature. We’ll relax, share stories, and enjoy good company as we take in the views and savor our meal.
No previous sailing experience is required to join this voyage—it’s all about having a good time on the water, no matter your skill level. So gather your friends, bring your sense of adventure, and prepare for a memorable day!
We’re making travel arrangements, and if we can gather enough cars, we’ll drive together to Loosdrecht. Otherwise, we’ll hop on public transport and make the journey part of the adventure.
Fair winds and smooth sailing await. Will you answer the call?
See you there! GEZWEM

Throughout your academic career, you will need to use LaTeX many many times. Now, there are two paths you can take; get to know LaTeX, fall in love, get married, and live happily together throughout your studies. Or, refuse to use LaTeX until you are forced to, at which point you will be confused, disoriented, and frustrated with it. I think we both know which of those two options is preferable.
As a mathematics student, you will need to use LaTeX already in the first quartile, but computer science students will have to use it as well later this year. To prepare you properly for this, TRAIN is organizing a LaTeX training, during which you will be guided through the basics of how to use it for your homework assignments. All you need to bring is your laptop!
To keep your body fueled, we will provide some free snacks and drinks. We look forward to seeing you there!
Choo choo,
TRAIN

Data in the Built Environment – Why nothing has changed in 2000 years
Have you ever wondered why every building project goes over budget and does not meet its original planning? Or why that annoying pothole in front of your home never gets fixed? I (Sander de Meij, from BIM-Connected) suggest that’s because the Built Environment has not really changed that much since the first time we started making buildings thousands of years ago.
Part of this issue is the incredibly inefficient way the Built Environment implements data, digital tools and other ‘smart’ solutions. We at BIM-Connected help this industry to move into the future by implementing intelligent data solutions using Linked Data and the Semantic Web.
Do you want to learn more about Linked Data in general (or specifically within the Built Environment) or how we have built an exciting piece of software which allows us to build data-driven applications in minutes? Join us during this lunch lecture to discuss what it means to be a ‘knowledge engineer’ or a dedicated software engineer within the Built Environment.
Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory! There are 135 spots only with first come first serve and GEWIS members get priority. You can earn 1 my future activity with this lecture.

Hey first-years!
Today, on this fateful day, a most wonderful event will occur: the new First Year Committees will be formed! Last week, on Thursday, I organised a nice information meeting in which I explained what FYCs are, and let several FYCs from last year share their experiences. If you missed it and would still like to know more about FYCs, you can almost always find me in GEWIS, and I'm always up for a quick chat about them!
If I'd have to summarise the concept of an FYC really quickly, I'd do it as follows: It's essentially a group of first-years, with the main goal of getting to know each other and having a lot of fun. It also offers the opportunity to, as a group, get to know GEWIS a bit better, go to fun activities, and making friends that will stay with you for the rest of your studies.
During this meeting, you'll form groups that will afterwards become our new FYCs, and get some time to brainstorm a name for your group, as well as other fun ideas that you might want to do throughout the year. I hope to see you all there!
If you would like to join this meeting but are unable to, or decide later that you would still like to join an FYC, please contact me!

Do you love tea, cakes or fun games? Do you want different tea flavours than the ones at GEWIS? If so, on Tuesday the 24th of September from 18.00 to 21.00 your dreams will come true! We have just the activity for you: ATHENA's High Tea Tuesday. We will provide you with tea bags and some fresh ingredients you need to make your own perfect blend. And don't worry, we will also provide multiple black tea flavours. Not a tea lover? No problem! You can get your favourite drinks yourself at your own cost from the bar and still join in on the fun and snacks.
I hear you thinking, how much will this all cost? Well, it is totally free, the only thing you need to do is bake or bring snacks to share with the group. So you can bring along a sweet or savoury snack like brownies or mini sandwiches. In addition, ATHENA will also bake two amazing cakes for everyone to try!
Warm hugs,
ATHENA🦉🩵🩷

Hey first-years!
During the introduction week you might have heard someone (probably Jens) talk about First Year Committees (FYCs). These committees are mainly meant for first-year students to connect with each other and provide an easy way for you to get to know the association a bit better.
Aside from the social aspects of FYCs, they also allow you to learn a lot of new skills, like organising activities, leading meetings, taking minutes, and many others. Don't be worried about the workload though, as FYCs have no real obligations; the main goal of them is to help you enjoy your year, so you can put as much time as you feel like you have into them.
During this meeting, I'll give you a brief explanation on how FYCs work, and some FYCs from last year will also join to share experiences from their committees. There will also be free lunch for everyone attending! I hope to see you there.
NOTE: Attending this meeting is without obligations! You can always choose not to join an FYC afterwards.

Flunkyball is a game where two teams compete against eACh other. You and your team stand on one side of the field next to eACh other, with a CAnned drink in front of eACh person. In the middle of the field stands a bottle. Each team takes turns trying to knock over the bottle with a ball. If the bottle is toppled, the whole team CAn start drinking until the opponents have set the bottle upright again, brought the ball back behind their line, and all players are standing by their CAns again. The team that finishes drinking all their CAns first wins.
So, do you want to prove you're the best at chugging, show off your aim, or just feel like playing Flunkyball? Sign up now! You CAn join with half-liter CAns of beer (6% alcohol), radler (3% alcohol), or soft drinks.
The idea is to form 4 teams. The winners of the first match will play in the winners' final, and the losers will also get an extra game. The €5 contribution is to buy 6 CAns, which should be enough for two games as long as you don’t get too many penalty CAns. If there are CAns left at the end of the game, there will be room for some extra matches after the competition.
There is no food list for the event, but the AC will be grabbing a kapsalon at Hizmet at 18:00 before setting up the ACtivity. So feel free to join us for dinner there!
See you then! Hugs, AC

Are you having a calculus entrance test on September 5th but you are not yet sure where to eat beforehand? No worries! AViCo organizes the Frietkarborrel, a social drink where you can get yourself some nice chips (French fries) and a snack for dinner such that you don’t have to worry about that yourself.
And the best: if you are a first year you even get one item for free! If you are still hungry after that, it is €2,- per additional snack or portion of fries.
We welcome you all to come somewhere between 16:30 and 20:00 to the Frietkarborrel at the Simon Stevin field (between the Markthall and the pond). No need to sign up! There will be enough fries for everyone!

After a hectic introduction week where you have (hopefully) made a lot of new friends it is time to really start your student life. And no student life without studying. However, you might already heard a lot of concepts you have never heard of, like "Canvas", "TE Timetable", "Plan App" or "Osiris". But don’t be afraid! There is no need to worry. Attending this training will teach you all the basics you need to know to survive all the software at the TU/e.
In case there are more then 120 people that want to attend, there will be a "first come, first serve" policy. In that case the remainder can view the session online.
Don’t forget to bring your laptop!
Tuesday 3 Sep. 2024 12:40 - 13:20
Georgios Evangelou will provide an interesting presentation on why he decided to go for the 2 year salaried post-master EngD Software Technology program for technological designers with TU/e, give some nice examples of multidisciplinary group training projects and also elaborate on his individual graduation project ‘Automatic and Optimized Hardware Sequence Generation and Inline Interpretation’ conducted at ASML. His thesis won the Software Technology Award 2024.

Dear members of s.v. GEWIS,
The celebration of academia is a tradition that dates back to ancient times. This university also participates in these cheerful celebrations every year. However, while the celebrating public gathers in the Blauwe Zaal, Hèt Dispuut opts for a celebration with a more intimate and traditional ambiance, where the true academic spirit can flourish.
Fraternity "In Vino Veritas" cordially invites the members of the association to celebrate the start of a new academic year together. This year, Amuse cards will be sold, which feature a selection of refined Dutch delicacies.
On September 2 from 5:00 PM, I.V.V welcomes you for an evening of conviviality and good taste. In addition to the delicious amuses, Hèt Dispuut will provide you with (sparkling) wine and other snacks, to stimulate good conversations that look at daily affairs with a critical eye.
In honor of this occasion, we kindly request that you wear appropriate clothing.
Proost!
Quaestor B. Henkemans der Dispuut "In Vino Veritas"
Thursday 29 Aug. 2024 12:00 - 19:00
Going to pick up your laptop? Make sure to also pick up the books you ordered from GEWIS!
We will hand out the books from 12 o'clock onwards. To ease the wait between the laptop and book pickup, we will provide some free lunch, and games for you to play. So meet up with all the nice people you met during the introduction week and reminisce about how fun the week has been and look forward together to the start of the academic year.
When you pick up your book, you will also get a voucher for a free soda or beer. You can only use them at the social drink that afternoon, which starts at 16:30. So make sure to hang around!
You can find us outside on the field between Metaforum and Atlas, next to the pond.
If the weather turns out badly, we will move inside to the GEWIS room
Tue. 20 Aug. 2024 (20:00) - Wed. 21 Aug. 2024 (00:00)
This year the Intro Department Party will take on a bit of a different shape. Join us at our own festival with all of your favourite GEWIS-artists!!! 🥳
At the Flux-field you will be able to party with your friends, have a drink, or hangout at the chill area 🕺🏻
Make sure to bring GEWIS-clothing or a membership card so that we can easily identify you!

Are you excited for summer, man?
The BAC is excited for summer, man! And how can you better enjoy summer than with a beach? Well, by not having to bike all the way to Best! For us, even walking to the IJzeren Man is too far. No, for this ultimate summer experience, you don't even have to leave the campus!
But do you know what the problem is with most beaches? Sand! We don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and annoying, and it gets everywhere. However, the whole beach lounging thing is pretty great.
Can you picture it: beach chairs, cocktails, beer that doesn't cost 8 euros, Desperados, music, and more. That's why the BAC presents the perfect solution for everyone who really wants to enjoy summer: the "Strand zonder Zand" Party.
Can you already see yourself in a beach chair with an ice-cold Desperados or a cocktail, enjoying Playa del Atlas at its finest! Then be sure to come on August 15th with your sunglasses to the best beach without sand.
Wed. 7 Aug. 2024 (08:00) - Fri. 16 Aug. 2024 (23:00)
Next week is the interim exam period. Of course you need a nice place to study. You might think about going to the crowded library, but we have a better idea!
From Wednesday August 7th until Friday evening August 16th you will be able to study in MF3.103, and MF3.105! Of course, this is awesome because:
Tea and coffee are seconds awayYou can use our books to study (ask the board before borrowing please)You can work together with your friends and ask advice from those who have already mastered the courses you are currently working on!One of the rooms will be a designated silence room, and one will be for collaboration.
Hope to see you there and good luck with your exams!
Tuesday 6 Aug. 2024 16:30 - 21:00
Dear GEWIS'ers,
At this point, you might have started to worry, as the summer has started already some time ago and you haven't seen our lovely yearly activity happen yet. But please do not get anxious, as the time has finally come to drink some wine in this lovely weather, and enjoy yourselves by throwing some balls.
This year, "In Vino Veritas" is organising an even more exciting "Spel met Ballen", as it is combined with an activity that we are well-known for, the Month'like drink. This means that while playing the lovely game with balls, you can enjoy a very nice glass of wine and even the usual delicacies of the Month'like drink.
Together with a partner, you are able to subscribe in order to participate in the official "Spel met Ballen" tournament and battle other teams for a chance to win the challenge cup. Beware though, the subscription list closes the Sunday before the activity.
Don't worry though, if you're not up for playing a couple rounds on the field, you can also just come and enjoy the borrel.
We hope to see you on the field,
Fraternity "In Vino Veritas"
Sunday 7 Jul. 2024 14:00 - 22:59
Dear drinkers,
About a month ago the BAC had a fantastic time behind the bar at the BorrelXL. Here one could enjoy delicious beer, viper, soft drinks but also wine. Unfortunately, the latter was not enjoyed as much and so the BAC has an abundance of wine (after a mistake by the buyer).
Now we are not I.V.V and we just want to have an abundance of beer. That's why we decided to sell it for a promotional price of €5.00 per bottle. You can walk up to a BAC member to see if they can grab a few bottles for you.
Thank you in advance!
Greetings,
Sven Mokveld, buyer of the BAr Commission s.v. GEWIS

On June 28th a new online-only season of Wie is de Mol starts and we want organise a small competition to see who is best at finding the Mole.
Every week after the episodes air (2 per week on Fridays) we will send a short survey with questions about the Mole and you have until the release of the next episodes to answer them.
After only a few weeks we will find out who who the Mole was on July 19th and that is when we will crown our winner too.
The TV-show is in Dutch, but English subbed episodes usually arrive pretty fast somewhere on the internet. So if your Dutch is no good but you are interested and still want to join that should be possible and we will try to accommodate.
The episodes can be watched for free at npo.nl/start and more information about the season such as the announcement and a list of the participants can be found at: https://wieisdemol.avrotros.nl/nieuws-item/onbekende-nederlanders-op-zoek-naar-de-mol-in-oman/
Thursday 4 Jul. 2024 09:00 - 21:00
On the 4th of July, we will host the inauguration drink for the 43rd board of GEWIS! During the inauguration drink, a lot of external associations, the department board, GEWIS bodies and members can come to congratulate the new board. We will celebrate their installation with a night full of free beers and amazing memories.
For the inauguration drink, we do need a lot of volunteers. We have to empty the room, protect the board and guestbook during the drink and bring the board home after the drink. We would like to know whether you are available for any of these tasks. Please note: bringing the board home means you are sober. If you are available, please fill in this form.
The obligatory infomeeting, at which everything about the order committee will be explained, takes place on Wednesday June 19th from 12:40 till 13:20. The location will be announced later!
Note that for non-volunteers, the borrel starts around 19:00 (the internal part).
If you have any remaining questions, send a mail to orde@gewis.nl.
