Then join us on June 18th for another round of the Minecraft Hunger Games! All necessary equipment (like laptops) will be provided by us.  And yes, like the kiddos back then,  there is a small prize for the winners (something a little more useful than valuta though). May the odds be ever in your favor!

We know you all feel very close to the DOMMEL. It’s time to get closer! The B.O.O.M. +  First years workgroup have arranged a beautiful kayaking activity which you can join. Some of you might remember being promised canoing and barbecue last year, where only barbecue was achieved. Funny enough this time the barbecue got cancelled, but we promise that you will get wet. 🛶

Once you have accepted the inevitable, we will be expecting you to come prepared with closed shoes and unimportant clothes on the 13th of June. We gather by the Werfgebouw, located by the bridge near Luna. There are two timeslots so that you can adjust to your schedule: 14.00-16:00 for the first time-slot and at 16.00-18:00  for the second, where you will kayak through the DOMMEL with your friends and our precious guides from OKAWA for 2 hours. Prepare to be wet and tired!

Subscribe fast, because there are only 40 spots. First come, first serve!

We will see you there!

  • Work on real industry projects – collaborate with top companies like ASML, Canon, and Philips on high-impact, high-tech challenges.
  • Go beyond coding – strengthen your system design, architecture, and leadership skills.
  • Industrial application – focus on solving real-world problems.
  • Future-proof your career – become the engineer companies want in advanced R&D and software innovation roles.

Whether you’re into AI, systems engineering, architecture, or data tech — the EngD program gives you the tools, experience, and network to lead the future of software technology and AI.

Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory! There are 135 spots only with first come first serve and GEWIS members get priority. You can earn 1 my future activity with this lecture.

Are you tired of solving boring Two Sum and FizzBuzz problems? Then we have something refreshing for you!

The Ad HOC Algorithms Engineering Contest is returning for its second edition on the 7th of June, from 10.30 to 19.00!

Get ready to team up with up to 3 friends and solve some computationally complex real-world problems, for which finding a solution is easy. But finding the best, most efficient one? It will take quite some skill, even with the help of ChatGPT.

If you're worried about running out of energy during the 5 hour-long contest, worry no more, as we will be providing FREE lunch and snacks for all participants.

Of course, the best algorithms engineers will be appropriately rewarded (we can't promise a FAANG paycheck but we will do our best).

Now, are you up for a challenge? Sign up at https://forms.gle/2KdnRrMS3sDeGsGV7. More info at https://heurific.win.tue.nl/adhoc/ (accessible only on the TU/e network).

Fri. 6 Jun. 2025 (14:00) - Sun. 8 Jun. 2025 (15:00)

Are you excited to spend your weekend in lovely nature and not afraid to engage in some adventurous activities, or just looking for a place to enjoy a cozy campfire all night long, or are you in for both? Then get ready for the B.O.O.M. Active Weekend of 2025!

This year, we will visit the Belgian ardennes. Here we have arranged some great activities for you, both on the Saturday and Sunday. We won’t spoil them yet, but examples from previous years are climbing, traversing a trail between treetops and canoeing.
Next to this, there is more to enjoy during the weekend, you can “stream” in the river at the campsite (ask B.O.O.M. members for details) and in the evening there will be a campfire to keep you warm. Since we are on a campsite, we will sleep in cozy tents.

You don’t have to bring/buy your own food or drinks as this is all inclusive during the weekend! On Friday you have the opportunity to taste Sako’s famous pasta salad, and on Saturday you can enjoy a nice BBQ. Next to that, we will arrange a sufficient supply of beers and soda (and coffee for the tough mornings, don’t worry).

The weekend will take place from 6th till 8th of June 2025, if you want to join please subscribe below.
As we need enough cars to drive everyone to Belgium, people with a car available will be given priority if necessary. If you have a car available, please indicate this and mention how many places (including yourself) you have in the car. We would also like to know if you have a tent. We will not make tent groups but this might give other people some help in asking around to find a place to sleep :)
We have spots to bring 45 students to our awesome weekend, so subscribe as soon as possible, first come first serve! When there is a lot of interest, we may be able to scale up, but we cannot promise anything yet!

Met takken!

Lunch lecture Deltares
Career Useful for first-year students Career Useful for master students
Tuesday 3 Jun. 2025 12:40 - 13:20

Dr. Jing Zhao obtained her PhD degree in the Numerical Analysis Group of the Department of Applied Mathematics in the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in 2015. Her PhD research focused on developing fast numerical solvers for the wheel-rail contact problems, arising from the railway industry. She has expertise in numerical iterative solvers and high-performance computing.

In the same year, after her PhD, she joined Deltares as a scientific software engineer, focusing on developing Deltares’ scientific software, particularly the Delft3D Flexible Mesh, which implements numerical solvers for hydrodynamic modelling. The users of this software include governmental organizations, consultant companies, universities and research institutes all around the world.

Since 2024, she has shifted toward Scientific Machine Learning (SciML), where she is researching on developing AI models, e.g. Graph Neural Networks–based models, as emulators of traditional numerical models for fast storm surge forecasting. Alongside this, she contributes to the development of Delft-FEWS (Flood forecasting and Early Warning System), by working on the configuration and related AI innovations.

Moreover, she maintains a close research collaboration with Delft University of Technology, on topics of SciML and fast numerical solvers (e.g., GPU-accelerated methods), by supervising PhD, Master’s, and internship projects, to bridge academic research and practical innovation.

For more information about her, please visit her LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jing-zhao-542bb775/

In this lunch lecture, she will give a general introduction of Deltares, talk about her work/projects at Deltares as an Applied Mathematician, and possible student project(s) at Deltares.
