Dear GEWIS-members,

we want to celebrate with you all that summer is near and we want to do that by having a picnic. Yes, on June 20th we are going to throw down the picnic blankets at Simon Stevin field where we will enjoy a lovely lunch for only 1 euro (even less if you're a freshman). The activity officially has to end at 2, but that doesn't mean that the fun has to.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Madames et Monsieurs,
It is with great pleasure and much elation that Fraternity “In Vino Veritas” can inform you that, after the enormous success of last year, the Etiquette dinner at GEWIS has returned.
During this evening, Fraternity “In Vino Veritas” will cook a themed four-course meal for all the attendees. As one can expect from us, the drinks (vin) will also be taken care of. During this four-course dinner, you will be accompanied by two guests of honour, who will teach you how to behave decently during dinners. First of all, you will be accompanied by the one and only mister Van Beekveld, who will explain to you all etiquette concerning dining. The second guest of honour will also not disappoint you, it is after all, our own world famous Master of Wine Mgr. Sanders, who will teach you everything there is to know about wine etiquette. You have the possibility to attend this beautiful evening for only €20,-.
This year’s Etiquette diner will take place on Tuesday the 12th of June 2018 and there are 23 spots for any GEWIS member apart from the fraternity. As our fraternity expects a lot of interested members, we hereby inform you that the subscription list opens on the 26th of April, at 1:30 PM.
We hope that you are equally enthusiastic as we are about this event and as a result of that we will see you there.
Ps. If you have not managed to be part of the first 23 attendees, do not be sad. After all, this year the attendees will be selected by a drawing of lots, in the unfortunate event that the subscription list is full within an hour. Hereby, priority will be granted to those members who did not yet attend the event last year. PAY ATTENTION: being subscribed after the 12th of May obliges you to pay for the costs of the event.

Dear members of GEWIS,

now that the theme of the introduction week is publicly known to be Partylimpics and people are already enthusiastically subscribing to become an intro parent, it is time to organize the intro parent activity. This activity has the goal to get to know your intro partner even better and also get to know some other intro parents a little bit better in a very fun way. The activity will be an outside activity and it will be held at the Simon Stevin field, a little outside the Markthal. So if you want to join the activity, subscribe here!

Of course we don't want anyone to be hungry during the activity and therefore we have provided dinner, which will also be free of charge! However, it would be nice to know if anyone has any allergies, so please let us know in the subscription.

So subscribe now and hopefully we will see all of you at June 11.

Kind regards,

Many of you have already seen the ``B.O.O.M. Buitenlands Weekend'' from up close, and those do not need to be convinced to participate this year's edition again.

For those who are not yet familiar with the term ``B.O.O.M. Buitenlands weekend'', a brief description: Every year there is this one special weekend in which a group of adventurous students gathers and travel to an exciting place somewhere in another country. During the days, some great activities will be offered and the nights are spent drinking some beers close by a fire and falling asleep inside a cozy tent.

This years edition will take place in the Belgian Ardennes, close to the picturesque village of Durbuy. During the weekend, we will participate in several activities, for example, a Friday night activity, one or multiple outdoor activities of your choice, and a wonderful secret activity on Sunday.

The subscription list is open! For now, we have a total of 50 spots, this might be increased based on the amount of interest.

Dear students,

This year, Tuesday the 5th of June, C4 is organizing a great career event: The C4 Company Dinner!
As usual in our career related activities, we will also provide you with enough food and drinks.

At the dinner, four companies will attend, of which you can choose two to talk with. With both of them, you will enjoy two nice courses and some drinks to discover the career possibilities they have in an informal conversation.
Are you a Master's student? Then you are lucky! If the 36 spots are filled within the week we will hold a drawing where Master's will have a priority over Bachelor's students.

Make sure you fill in your allergies, field of interest and which companies you would like to have dinner with. You have to fill in at least the first two spots, since you wil have dinner with two companies. The 3rd and 4rd spots are optional for the ones that do not get their 1st and/or 2nd preference but are still very interested in their 3rd and 4th preference. Otherwise fill in " - ".

We hope to see you there!

Kind regards,

(Software) challenges at ASML ASML is a supplier of machines used in the semiconductor industry. These so called scanners are used when producing chips. To meet the increasing demands on accuracy and higher throughput, we continuously improve parts of the system, as well as the ways these are calibrated and controlled. Many of the improvements require changes to the control software of these systems. Next to these hardware improvements, mechanical imperfections are compensated by using complex algorithms. What are the challenges to develop such a system? How do we develop software for these systems? What comes into play? How is it like to work at ASML?

This is the subscription list for training (3/3) of the three-part series of lunch break trainings. This subscription list opens on Monday May 14th at 13:30.

Many students experience stress during the exams or with pressing deadlines. Though stress can be useful, too much stress can cause your results to decline and can even effect your health. That's why TRAIN organises the training: Manage your Stress.

Manage your stress exists of three independent workshops during the lunch break which will be given in May and June. Each training can be followed independently, but if possible we advise to do all three of them.

Part three of this series is about how you can reduce stress by using mindfulness. This may sound out of here, but that isn't the case. It a good way to step out of the pressures of daily life.

The training is given by De Binnenkamer and will be given in English. Note: there are 30 spots available . You can unsubscribe for free until 24 hours before the training. When your unsubscribe after this date or when you fail to show up at the training you'll have to pay our fine of € 20.

Hi culinairy miracles,
A new activity organized by GETAART is coming. Diner rouler! A brand new activity, which you can join with a partner of your choice! The idea of diner rouler is that you create one dish (appetizer, main dish or dessert) together with your partner and you fix a place to serve it (for example at your or your partners place). You will serve this dish to yourself and your partner and two other couples. The other dishes will be taken care of by another couple on another location. This means that you and your partner will consume 3 dishes on 3 different location in the company of 2 other couples per dish, so 6 other couples in total!
What makes this activity extra fun is that in just one evening you will be able to mingle with a lot of people, you can express all your culinary creativity and get inspired by the creations of others.
We will make a schedule in which we mix up all the couples. And to ensure that traveling between dishes does not take too long, we would like to know where you will serve your dish. But with the new privacy law in mind we do not ask you to put this location on the website instead we ask you to email this information to getaart@gewis.nl. The information will only be communicated to members of GETAART, it will only be used for the schedule and off course all the information on locations will be deleted afterwards.

Hello everyone!
The first year committee Amφbier has organised a second activity for you. This time we will play a table football tournament during the last quartile. In 5 weeks we know which team at GEWIS the best table football players of this year will be. Everybody has a chance, because we play with the rules of the FIFA World Cup tournament. First we play in groups. The best teams of the groups play against each other to fight for the finals. When you lose, you're out, when you win, you're one step closer to the prize! Even if you play daily, regularly or not at all, this tournament is something for you! At the end of the tournament, the finals will be played between the two top teams. They will fight for the title and the prize of course. When a match has been played, you can write your scores down at a form at the table football table at GEWIS. Don't forget! We play with the rules of GEWIS. If you don't know them, you can ask someone who plays regularly. They know them for sure. You can subscribe with a teammate and a teamname. Only one of you has to subscribe. Good luck!

Digiscanner: The architecture of a real-time vision application. The DigiScanner is a hand-held scanner for orthodontic use. It creates a 3D-model of the jaw using structured light. To go from camera-image to 3D-model, we use several vision algorithms from multiple sources. In developing the application, an architecture was required that is modular and flexible, so we could experiment with multiple ways of combining the different algorithms. In addition, we need all the performance we can get out of our x86 system. This means sharing memory between modules and an effective multi-threading strategy. In this talk, Sioux presents the architecture we developed for this application and show how it combines modularity, maintainability and performance in a single design. About the speaker Koen Rutten is senior software engineer at Sioux. He studied both mathematics and computer science at Utrecht University. He works at Sioux on vision algorithms for embedded applications, with a specialisation on ARM and x86.
