Dear members of s.v. GEWIS,
At the end of every calendar year we reflect on our achievements, like true Burgundian nobles, while every defeat is drowned in the finest vintages the cellar has to offer. Tradition dictates that glasses must be raised, and after centuries of abundant toasting, they will eventually run dry. But where does one celebrate such triumphs properly? In Vino Veritas knows The Answer, and it is: with excess.
On the weekend of 11 to 13 December, you, together with the gentlemen of In Vino Veritas, will take up residence in a sprawling château, tucked away among the rolling hills of the Acht Zaligheden ("Eight Delights") region of North Brabant. There, where the ceilings are high enough for your loudest toast and the wine keeps flowing endlessly like a bottomless river, you will be immersed in conviviality, luxury, and delicacies until there is nothing left to wish for.
On Friday you set course for the west of Eindhoven, where you'll be welcomed with open arms and filled glasses. A toast will ring out, a meal will appear as if by magic, and as the evening unfolds you'll surrender to the moment, freed of whatever worries the outside world may still hold. Saturday afternoon, entirely in keeping with the spirit of things, will be packed with experiences you'll still be entertaining your grandchildren with. While you indulge yourselves in all of this, several members of The fraternity will retreat to the kitchen to prepare an unrivaled seven-course dinner, a menu composed down to the last detail by none other than our highly esteemed Dux Luxuriae in person.
This unparalleled weekend has room for just 26 people. So polish your shiniest shoes, press your finest shirt to the very seams, and let yourself be tempted once again this year by that which truly makes life worth living.

P.S. Given that the location is a stone's throw from Eindhoven, you can make your way to this temple of abundance by bike or public transport. This year The Fraternity will therefore not be organizing a carpool; the road to pleasure is one you must travel under your own steam. Travel costs will, naturally, not be reimbursed.
P.P.S. The registration list opens on Monday, 31 August 2026 at 18:35. Should the 26 spots fill up within the hour, a lottery will decide who gets to join; if not, it's first come, first served. When registering, you can indicate whether you'd like the vegetarian menu.
P.P.P.S. Due to limitations in manpower, budget, and space, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that all other dietary requirements can be accommodated. Vegan is therefore presumably not an option. In the case of allergies, we may get in touch with you, as cross-contamination in the kitchen cannot be entirely ruled out.

But that's not all, you will also be able to get an amazing cocktail, and a shot which you can use to practice your G-splitting, even if it's a bit smaller. Throughout your academic career, you will need to use LaTeX many many times. Now, there are two paths you can take; get to know LaTeX, fall in love, get married, and live happily together throughout your studies. Or, refuse to use LaTeX until you are forced to, at which point you will be confused, disoriented, and frustrated with it. I think we both know which of those two options is preferable.
As a mathematics student, you will need to use LaTeX already in the first quartile, but computer science students will have to use it as well later this year. To prepare you properly for this, TRAIN is organizing a LaTeX training, during which you will be guided through the basics of how to use it for your homework assignments. All you need to bring is your laptop!

Are you ready for underground adventures in Valkenburg? Tight tunnels. Pitch-black passages. Walls you'll be clinging to. On Saturday October 3rd, we're ditching the daylight and heading deep into the dark underground for a day that'll push you way outside your comfort zone.
Whether you're squeezing through narrow cave corridors on a bike, conquering rock walls in the dark, or venturing into the unknown on an adventurous cave tour, this is the kind of day you'll still be talking about at the next borrel!
There are 3 activities, out of which you will do 2! When signing up, rank your top 2 activity preferences:
🚲 Cave biking
Discover this great underground landscape, by cave bike! Cycle through the cave, going left, right, seeing a high ceiling, then low again, narrow, spacious, no idea where you are anymore.
🔦 Adventurous cave tour
During this escape tour through the caves, you will discover the stories of the quarry workers, and encounter obstacles they left behind. There will be crawling, sneaking, shooting and even crossing the water!
🧗 Cave climbing
The Scramble Tour will take you to places that normally remain closed to the public. One of the guides will take you over several challenging courses including a via ferrata, and an abseil into the old well. Manoeuvre over the obstacles and stare into the depths.
💭 No preference
Be aware: activities will be split 10/10/10 across the group, so you might not get your 2 faves.

Do you enjoy pubcrawls? Do you miss the outdoors from being stuck inside studying this whole quartile? Well don't worry, GEDWAAL has the perfect activity for you!
CHANGE IN PLANS: dinner will not be during the activity, you need to arrange it yourself beforehand! Because of this, the activity also starts an hour later at 18:30. We want to get going then, so please be on time.
⛰️We are putting a GEDWAAL spin on the usual pubcrawl: namely making it a 10km hike! ⛰️
We will start at the university (gathering at GEWIS), and explore Eindhoven the way students know best: through different pubs, finishing at the most familiar one: Hubble 🍻
The activity is completely free (but you do have to pay for your own consumption) and we will even treat you to a round in Hubble if you manage to survive until the end!
Also, while we are promoting this as a pubcrawl, it is generally less intense and as such is also a perfect activity for non-drinkers.

During this great meeting, the new First Year Committees will be formed. Hopefully you were at the information meeting last week Thurday, where you got a great explanation of what FYCs are and why you should join them. During this meeting, you will form into groups that will become the new FYCs and get some time to brainstorm about your name, logo and maybe already things you are interested in organising.

Meet MaTCo! Our first session of the year, where we will introduce new members, new faculty, and the new board. Plans for this year's sessions and for the International Mathematics Competition team will be covered, and we will ease members into mathematical Olympiad style problem-solving with an array of interesting questions and tasks. If you are interested in challenging yourself in one of the world’s largest math competitions for university students, wish to practice hard but rewarding problems, or are looking for a community to discuss and attend activities with, then be sure to pop over.
The B.O.O.M. Outdoor Cinema returns on September 15th! We have carefully selected two incredible movies to watch together under the stars (the titles remain secret for now!).
We will fire up the barbecue and there will be popcorn, both included in the price! And, because no great movie night is complete without a refreshing drink, beers and soft drinks will be available to purchase during the night.
Make sure to bring your own camping chair so you are comfortable during the movies!

Once you have packed everything you can bring your stuff to the table tennis tables in Markthal on Friday the 11th of September between 8:30 and 13:00. Someone from the introduction committee (in red overalls) will be there to help you.
On Friday afternoon, we will start at GEWIS with the bike pubcrawl. You are welcome from 15:30 at GEWIS and will send people away until 17:30. Make sure that you have working lights on your bike for your own safety and that of others. You don't need to have eaten, as you can eat with your biking group during the pubcrawl.
Come join the BAC for another social drink this Thursday! With the weather still good, this will probably be one of the last outdoor borrels of the year, so let's celebrate the good weather.
