Mon. 20 Apr. (00:01) - Sun. 10 May. (23:59) for 1 week, 3 days and 8 hours
Every 5 years, GEWIS celebrates the association in the form of a Lustrum year. As GEWIS will turn 45 years old in the next academic year and therefore the Lustrum is getting closer and closer it will soon be time to announce our theme! But we are not planning to make it easy for you...
In the next three weeks three puzzels will be released every week. The solutions of these puzzels will bring you closer and closer to finding out what the theme will be. The puzzels can be found in the GEWIS room and will be posted on Instagram (@9elustrumgewis) for anyone who feels like taking on the challenge.
The solutions of the three puzzels of week 1 will all hint towards one unifying answer of week 1. After three weeks, you will have three unifying answers. These answers then combine to one single final solution, giving you the theme of the 9th Lustrum of GEWIS.
So get those gears turning, don't forget to work together if things become difficult, and most of all good luck!
Kisses,
The 9th Lustrum Committee of GEWIS

Yarrr!!
Ahoy there maties!
GEZWEM will be having a sailing weekend yet again, this year on the weekend of the 1st of May! We will be charting the wild northern waters of Sneekermeer, in what is known as Dutch-Scandinavia or Fryslân.
The weekend will be filled with amazing adventures, sailing the seas to new lands, finding treasure in authentic brown pubs, and sharing stories, laughter, and rum between our tents.
For a fair price, we will organize a ship with a crew, quarters (bring your own tent), sustenance, and drink for you to stay and enjoy the riches of the GEZWEM sailing weekend (note that transport is not included in the price).
So join us in this wonderful weekend and endanger the waters of Fryslân during the day, and the brownest of pubs at night. No sailing experience required!!

The Batavierenrace is back!
The next edition of the world's largest relay race is scheduled to take place over the weekend between May 9th and 11th, 2026. We will start in the centre of Nijmegen and run 175km, split up into 25 parts, to the campus of the University of Twente in Enschede. The race begins on Friday evening and will finish in the afternoon on Saturday, meaning we will run through the night.
Throughout the weekend, we’ll be camping on the University of Twente campus alongside hundreds of students from across the Netherlands (bring your own tent). The race is divided into three “shifts”: night, morning, and afternoon. The night shift will travel to Nijmegen for the start, while the morning and afternoon shifts will head to Enschede and be transported by bus to their respective starting points.
And while the race itself is unforgettable, that’s not all; this weekend also hosts the biggest student party in Europe, an experience you definitely won’t want to miss.
It will be possible for participants to buy a sports shirt for +/- €15, but this is optional.
We are still looking for a sponsor, so the price might still decrease.

While the world does not get much more beautiful than Eindhoven, sometimes you get the urge to go out there and discover the world. Shortly after that, you often realise that travelling is expensive and cancel your plans. But what if I were to tell you that we have found a solution for this exact problem? Go hitchhiking with a buddy; this is a cheap way to travel and a great way to meet interesting people.
But what if I told you that we have found a way to make hitchhiking even more fun? By turning it into a competition, you can win the right to brag to your friends about this. You can even do some challenges along the way to improve your final time.
On the first day, you and your buddy will travel to the capital city of Luxembourg, which is, coincidentally, also called Luxembourg. After getting some well-deserved sleep there, on the next day, you will make your way to one of the biggest cities in Belgium, Antwerp. We also have a fun activity planned for Friday evening in Antwerp. There will, of course, be plenty of time to discover the city before we make our way back to Eindhoven on Saturday evening.
For the low, low price of € 45, or a bit more if you have already graduated, you will receive the following: An overnight stay in both cities, a trip back to Eindhoven, and everything you need to hitchhike.
To ensure that everyone has the required skills to make it to the destinations, we will organise an information session before the weekend to provide all participants with some general information and helpful tips.
If you have student weekend OV, please check the relevant box in the sign-up sheet.
If there are more than 15 duos within 24 hours, a draw will be held. After this, the subscription will be "first-come, first-served". Do make sure to subscribe, since there will be a waiting list!
Note that you will need to sign a contract to join this activity, and get your own travel insurance.

TL;DR: No exact solutions. No easy wins. Just smart heuristics. Outsmart the problem, out-optimize the competition, and claim victory. Sign up below!
The CPPS track of the Honors Academy and GEWIS proudly present the third edition of ADHOC – Algorithm Engineering Contest, a heuristic optimization battle designed to test your real-world problem-solving skills.
Unlike traditional programming contests where speed and clever tricks dominate, ADHOC focuses on something different: engineering strong solutions under real constraints. This is not about finding the answer. It’s about building better answers.
You will face one open-ended optimization problem based on a realistic scenario. The twist? The problem is computationally intractable - an exact solution within reasonable time simply does not exist. Instead, your mission is to design intelligent heuristics that push your solution closer to the optimum. You start at infinity - the lower your score, the better. When time runs out, the team with the lowest total score takes the win.
You will have 4 hours to battle multiple instances of the problem. Teams may consist of two up to three participants. Bring your laptops, your sharpest ideas, and your most trusted collaborators.
The programming languages supported are Java, Python and C++. You are free to use any open-source tools and libraries. Just like in real engineering practice, you choose your own strategy. However, paid services, cloud computing platforms, or external compute power are not allowed - we keep the competition fair (no supercomputers 😉).
During the contest, we provide free lunch and snacks. Afterwards, we reveal the leaderboard, break down solution strategies, and award the winning team. There will of course be time to celebrate once the dust has settled.
If you love algorithms, optimization, AI, or simply tackling problems that refuse to be solved easily - ADHOC is for you.
Note: there is a maximum capacity of 25 teams. If more than 25 teams subscribe, a prioritization is given to full teams (consisting of 3 participants).

As many know, the lustrum week of B.O.O.M. would not be a lustrum week of B.O.O.M. without a fair share of beer. And what better way to do this than by battling a Centurion? The Totale Escalatie Centurion mixes by the Gebroeders Scooter are well-known by now, but a new challenge has appeared...
Are you ready to beat the 100 gongs of the B.O.O.M.turion? Are you able to survive the 100 minutes where others have fallen? Or maybe, are you the chosen one able to drink not every minute but at every "B.O.O.M." in the lyrics? Then this is the activity for you! The BAC provides beer, and B.O.O.M. provides a new and innovative mix. So, rise up to the challenge! Prepare for an evening of laughter, music, shots of beer and, most importantly, a lot of fun.
Next to this awesome challenge, there's also the opportunity to obtain the limited edition B.O.O.M. lustrum shot glass, for only €3.50 extra! There's a separate subscription list for this, as these need to be ordered earlier.
There's space for up to 30 people, but this might be changed if there's enough demand. If the activity is full one hour after the subscription list opens, there will be a draw.

Do you like good food?
Do you like the warmth of a campfire?
Do you like cooking?
Do all or any of these things appeal to you? Or maybe none of them, but you’d really like to get your hands on the B.O.O.M. Lustrum season pass?
Then we’ve got something for you: the B.O.O.M. Lustrum Campfire Cooking Activity! Build a campfire and prepare your own delicious dinner on it. Whether your mind goes to grandma’s recipes, the cooking skills of Gordon Ramsay, or outdoor cooking videos, the B.O.O.M. Lustrum campfire cooking activity offers the perfect balance between culinary excellence and primitive cooking—resulting in a delicious selfmade five-course meal.
There will also be tasty drinks available via Sudosos. The activity starts at 16:00, because before you can cook on a campfire, you’ll of course need to build it. If 16:00 doesn’t work for you but you can make it at 17:00, please indicate this when signing up. We have a capacity of 25 participants on a first come, first served basis. For allergies, we will see what we can do in consultation, but we cannot guarantee avoiding cross-contamination.
Enjoy your meal!

Heyo fellow borrelaars!
What’s your favorite season for a borrel? Summer, with an ice-cold beer or soda in the sun? Winter, with a steaming mug of gluhwein or hot chocolate? Autumn, with a refreshing boswandeling? Or Spring, with a crisp cocktail or mocktail in hand?
Can’t decide? Neither can we! That’s why for this lustrum, we’re bringing out all the seasons at once. During these drinks, you’ll enjoy the best seasonal beverages, all while soaking up the spring sunshine. And for those who stay loyal to their goudgele rakker no matter the weather: don't worry, the beer will be flowing freely!
On top of that, we’re revisiting some of B.O.O.M.’s finest traditions and activities of the last 5 years. Grab your camping chair for a spot in 'the river' (read: the pool) or kick back in our outdoor cinema. Feeling active? Go wild on the volleyball court or head out for a canoe trip (note: bring your own canoe!). And of course, you guessed it: the BBQ will definitely be fired up!
See you on May 28th at the B.O.O.M. lustrum borrel!
TLDR: Borrel, BBQ, I will not tell you what we are going to do, but bring your swimsuit.

The world is on fire, groceries are more expensive than your study credits, and the Dutch weather doesn’t seem to know what season it is either.
So we’ll just do it ourselves: one night, four seasons. And probably four stages of drunkenness.
Because Dispuut B.O.O.M. is turning 20, and we’re obviously not letting that pass quietly. The last week of May will be entirely dedicated to our 4th Lustrum, with the grand finale on Friday, May 29th: the Lustrum Gala.
A gala? Indoors? Of course not! Grab your boots from the closet, because we’ve arranged a beautiful outdoor location especially for all lovers of the outdoors.
Don’t have boots? No worries. Sign up for the interest list for LIMITED EDITION B.O.O.M.-proof boots, and we’ll contact you later with the exact price.
The theme is Four Seasons, so expect fresh outfits, sweating on the dance floor, falling people, and eventually ending the night in something resembling a hibernation.
Would you rather enjoy a festive band, fantastic DJs, and a lot of drinks together with someone instead of alone? In GEWIS you can find green stationery to invite your favorite person via a letter.
Everyone is welcome, including non-GEWIS members. They can subscribe themselves, but this is not needed if you indicate that you pay for them.
The costs: first-years: €27,50 | regular students: €30,- | non-students: €37,- | Late sign-up: +€2,50
So come experience all four seasons during the Gala on Boots!

Math Roulette is a fast-paced math competition. You participate in teams of at most 3 people. It consists of 12 rounds with 1 minute to solve 1 problem and decide how many points you want to bet on it. If it is correct, the bet is added to your score, and if not - it is lost. We will be updating the temporary results of all teams on a board after each round to help you with betting strategies.
There are also a few additional rules that make it even more thrilling, but we will explain them at the beginning of the competition.

How math can help optimize complex machines @ASML
By Paul Donkers
ASML lithography systems are used to produce microchips with nanometer accuracy. This is only possible because of the large number of the intricate math-based software solutions that are used to optimize the performance of these complex machines. This lecture will give a glimpse into mathematical problems that arise when trying to squeeze every last nanometer out of ASML's lithography systems.
Note: after subscribing, showing up is mandatory! There are 135 spots only with first come first serve, priority will be given to students that sign up with their GEWIS account.

Are you excited to spend your weekend in lovely nature and not afraid to engage in some adventurous activities, or just looking for a place to enjoy a cozy campfire all night long, or are you in for both? Then get ready for the B.O.O.M. Active Weekend of 2026!
This year, we will visit the German Eifel. Here we have arranged some great activities for you, both on the Saturday and Sunday. We won’t spoil them yet, but examples from previous years are biking, climbing and canoeing. Next to this, there is more to enjoy during the weekend, you can “stream” in the river at the campsite (ask B.O.O.M. members for details) and in the evening there will be a campfire to keep you warm. Since we are on a campsite, we will sleep in cozy tents.
You don’t have to bring/buy your own food or drinks as this is all inclusive during the weekend! On Friday you have the opportunity to taste Sako’s famous pasta salad, and on Saturday you can enjoy a nice BBQ. Next to that, we will arrange a sufficient supply of beers and soda (and coffee for the tough mornings, don’t worry).
The weekend will take place from 5th till 7th of June 2026, if you want to join please subscribe below. As we need enough cars to drive everyone to Germany, people with a car available will be given priority if necessary. This year, only the fuel costs will be compensated, so make sure to start and end the weekend with a full tank. If you have a car available, please indicate this and mention how many places (including yourself) you have in the car. We would also like to know if you have a tent. We will not make tent groups but this might give other people some help in asking around to find a place to sleep :)
We have spots to bring 40 students to our awesome weekend, so subscribe as soon as possible, first come first serve! When there is a lot of interest, we may be able to scale up, but we cannot promise anything yet!

Curious about blockchain but not sure where to start?
In this interactive session, we’ll give you a short introduction to what blockchain is, what it’s useful for, and, most importantly, what you can actually build with it.
Then, you’ll get hands-on. We’ll help you come up with a problem you care about and explore how blockchain could be used to solve it. No prior experience needed, just curiosity.
At the end of the session, you’ll have the chance to pitch your idea for a shot at a $1000 prize pool, turning your first blockchain idea into your first opportunity to earn in the web3 industry.
note the maximum number of participants is 40, subscriptions will be based on a first come first serve basis.
