First Year Excursion

On the 29 of March the first year excursion will take place. During this excursion you will go to a company of your choice and get a kick start on your career. You can find the exact program below. Note that this excursion is obligatory for all first year students and that you will have no scheduled lectures this day. You can choose between an online or an offline program. If you choose for the online option you can go to both a morning and an afternoon program. The offline program will be completely corona proof and in case the corona measures do not allow this excursion to be organized offline, there will be an online alternative from the same company. To register for the first year excursion, you can go to the Colloquium Canvas page and click on People, then go to Groups. Here you can set your first and second preference for an excursion. Make sure you register your preference before March 15th. Double bachelor students only have to register once in one colloquium page. In the week after the 15th of March you will receive an email stating which program(s) you may attend and the exact details for transportation or the invites for the Microsoft Teams Meetings.

Online morning program IBM You might know IBM as the company who brought the very first computer to the market, and even in 2021 IBM is leading in the hardware and software department. During their morning program, you will get to know IBM in an interactive way with a Kahoot, a virtual tour through their office in Amsterdam and a small business case! This program is accessible for both Computer Science and Mathematics studenten. Shell During the Shell morning program, they will talk about all different Mathematics and Computer Science applications at the Pernis refinery (close to Rotterdam) and there will be an online tour through the refinery. This program is accessible for both Computer Science and Mathematics studenten.
Online afternoon program ISAAC ISAAC is a company in Eindhoven that you may have seen at GEWIS before during the introduction week! They build web solutions and internet applications for e-commerce, e-finance and integration, this includes webshops, self-service portals or middleware integrations. ISAAC will give multiple interactive presentations on their company, a front-end project and a mobile project that they have recently been working on! This program is mainly focussed on Computer Science students. Vanderlande Vanderlande is the global market leader for future-proof logistic process automation at airports, and in the parcel market. During their program, you will get to know Vanderlande as a company, have interactive presentations on projects at Vanderlande and get a digital tour through their innovation centre! This program is mainly focussed on Mathematics students. There are only 50 spots available for this program.
Offline program AME Applied Micro Electronics "AME" B.V. provides solutions within the disciplines of Research, Design, Development and Manufacturing of electronics, mechatronics and embedded software. At AME, they work on a broad scale of projects for customers in the field of offshore, consumer lighting, smart energy, infrastructure, automotive and building automation. During this excursion, you will get to know AME as a company and get a tour to see just how we make all of our products! This program is accessible for both Mathematics and Computer Science students. There are only 30 spots available for this program. Sioux Sioux Technologies is a global technology partner that supports or acts as the R&D department for high-tech companies. Sioux offers a unique combination of high-quality competences like software, mathware, mechatronics, electronics and assembly. During the company visit, groups will be split up and you will get a lecture on what it is like to work as a software (Computer Science students) or mathware engineer (Mathematics students). Later the groups will be combined again for a practical exercise and a demo. This program is accessible for both Mathematics and Computer Science students. There are only 60 spots available for this program. Thales Thales is a worldwide company that focuses on safety and security. During the excursion in March, you will have the opportunity to see Thales’s main market in the Netherlands: Naval Radar Systems. You will get a company presentation, free lunch and a tour through the headquarters, including the radar system and combat room! This program is mainly focussed on Mathematics students. There are only 10 spots available for this program.

Throughout your studies, the program requires you to attend multiple MyFuture Ativities. For these MyFuture Activities, you will gain Aattendance points. In total, you have to obtain 7 points and for the first year excursion, you will earn 2 Aattendance points already! During on campus activities, it is possible to scan your campus card and the points will automatically be rewarded to your account.
