On the 1st of July we switch boards. The 44th board will say goodbye to their boardyear, and hand over the keys of the palace to the new 45th board. We would love to do this in the bounds of our own home, 't Dakterras, surrounded by our friends and family. However, as the building closes at 22:00, we cannot. Therefore we propose to move this celebration to our second home, Hubble, still surrounded by our friends and family.
That is where you come in! We would like, and therefore we do, cordially invite you all to attend the Board Switch Activity at Hubble. We will organise some games to celebrate the great times we had past year, and, as is fit for a board of the most beautiful association that exists, celebrate the inauguration of our new board (Do note, this obviously does not take away from the Constitutional drink that will follow later).
We will start at 21:30, and together have some drinks and have some fun. You can also join later. Though the 44th board is still busy at that point, we also encourage you to already have a bite and a drink together before we commence the activity.

A few weeks ago, we, the YBC, have held the momentous Yearbook Reveal Borrel, during which we handed out the yearbooks to anyone interested. If you missed it, don’t worry - still have some left over, and they’re available for (free) pickup in the GEWIS room for the time being. First come first serve, and books are available while supplies last (likely not very long; hurry up!).
Please be advised that in contrast to the Borrel, we are giving priority to members active last academic year (24-25), as it is them and their committees who are included in the book! If any books remain left over, other members may also be able to obtain one.
Did you know, GEWIS is turning 44 this year! On the 28th of June, our association is turning one year older. Of course, this needs to be celebrated, and what better way to do it then by eating some pie and watching a movie together!
So, if you want to come and enjoy the pie, snacks, and movie(s), or if you just want a small break from studying for your exams, make sure to be there!
The exams are once again approaching fast! Of course you need a nice place to study. You might think about going to the crowded library, but we have a better option!
From Tuesday June 22nd in the morning until Wednesday July 1st in the evening you will be able to study in MF3.101, MF3.102 and MF3.103!

Every year, the introduction committee needs intro parents to house all new students. In this form, you will be able to subscribe to the introduction week as a introduction parent with one of your friends!
The introduction week is from 17/08/2026 until 21/08/2026. This means that you HAVE to be available during those times. Next to that, there will also be a training day during the holidays where you need to be present. This day is on the Saturday before the intro week, so 15/08/2026. If you are currently studying, you can be an intro parent!

Dr. Jing Zhao, from Deltares, will give a lunch lecture on 18th June, titled "Applying Mathematics to Real-World Challenges: My Work at Deltares". In this lunch lecture, she will (1) give a general introduction of Deltares, (2) talk about her work/projects at Deltares as an Applied Mathematician addressing real-life challenges, and (3) discuss opportunities for Master’s students, including internships and thesis projects at Deltares.
Below is more about her: She obtained her PhD in 2015, from the Numerical Analysis Group of the Department of Applied Mathematics at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). Her PhD work focused on the development of fast numerical solvers for wheel–rail contact problems in the railway industry.
In the same year, after completing her PhD, she joined Deltares as a scientific software engineer. Her work focused on the development of Deltares’ scientific software, in particular Delft3D Flexible Mesh, which incorporates advanced numerical solvers for hydrodynamic modelling in rivers, lakes, oceans, etc. The software is used worldwide by governmental organizations, consulting firms, universities, and research institutes. It is applied to address a wide range of water-related challenges, including flood risk assessment, coastal protection, sediment transport, and water quality management.
Since 2024, she has shifted toward Scientific Machine Learning (SciML), where she participates the research on developing AI models, e.g. Graph Neural Networks–based models, as emulators of traditional numerical models for fast storm surge forecasting. Alongside this, she contributes to the development of Delft-FEWS (Flood forecasting and Early Warning System), by working on the configuration and related AI innovations.
Moreover, she serves as a guest researcher at TU Delft, where she maintains a close research collaboration on topics including scientific machine learning (SciML) and fast numerical solvers. Through the supervision of PhD, Master’s thesis, and internship projects, she actively contributes to bridging academic research and practical innovation.

On the 2nd of July, we will host the inauguration drink for the 45th board of GEWIS! During the inauguration drink, a lot of external associations, the department board, GEWIS bodies and members can come to congratulate the new board. We will celebrate their installation with a night full of free drinks and amazing memories.
For the inauguration drink, we do need a lot of volunteers. We have to empty the room, protect the board and guestbook during the drink and bring the board home after the drink. In recent years, UiPath has evolved beyond classical task automation into agentic orchestration, where intelligent agents reason, decide, and act across complex business processes. This shift mirrors a broader transformation happening across the world: businesses are moving away from rigid, rule-based workflows and toward AI-empowered operations, where Large Language Models unlock entirely new ways of interpreting, navigating, and optimizing the work that gets done. But this transition raises a fundamental question: if data is just another language, and LLMs thrive on language, how do we translate the structured concepts at the heart of business processes into natural language representations that these models can genuinely reason over?
In this lunch lecture, Dennis Brons will share how UiPath has been exploring exactly that within the domain of Process Mining, and walk you through some of the strategies, experiments, and lessons learned along the way.

Twijfel dan niet langer en maak jezelf gereed voor B.O.O.M. Actief Weekend 2026!
Dit jaar, zullen we de Duitse Eifel bezoeken. Hier hebben wij wat avontuurlijke activiteiten voor jullie georganiseerd, op zowel de zaterdag als de zondag. We gaan nog niets verklappen, maar voorbeelden van vorige jaren zijn klimmen, mountainbiken en kanoën.
Naast dit is er nog veel meer om van te genieten gedurende het weekend, je kunt bijvoorbeeld gaan “streamen” in de rivier (vraag B.O.O.M. leden om meer info) en in de avond zal er een kampvuur zijn om je warm te houden, en omdat we op een camping zitten zullen we in tenten slapen.
Je hoeft niet je eigen eten en drinken mee te nemen, omdat dit allemaal inclusief is gedurende het weekend! Op vrijdag zul je de kans krijgen om Sako zijn beroemde pasta salade te proeven, en op zaterdag zullen we van een heerlijke BBQ genieten, en we zullen natuurlijk genoeg bier en fris regelen (en koffie voor de zware ochtenden).
Het weekend zal plaatsvinden van 5 tot 7 juni 2026, als je wilt meegaan schrijf je dan hieronder in.
Omdat we genoeg autos nodig hebben om iedereen naar Duitsland te rijden, krijgen mensen met auto voorrang indien nodig. Dit jaar wordt alleen de benzine vergoed, dus zorg ervoor dat je met een voole tank begint en eindigt! Als je een auto beschikbaar hebt, geef dat dan aan en zet erbij hoeveel plaatsen (inclusief jezelf) je hebt in de auto. We willen ook graag weten of je een tent hebt. We gaan geen groepjes maken maar het kan helpen om anderen een slaapplek te laten vinden :)
We hebben plek om 40 studenten mee te nemen op ons toffe weekend, dus schrijf je zo snel mogelijk in, first come first serve! Als er veel interesse is, kunnen we misschien opschalen, maar we kunnen nog niets beloven!

Are you excited to spend your weekend in lovely nature and not afraid to engage in some adventurous activities, or just looking for a place to enjoy a cozy campfire all night long, or are you in for both? Then get ready for the B.O.O.M. Active Weekend of 2026!
This year, we will visit the German Eifel. Here we have arranged some great activities for you, both on the Saturday and Sunday. We won’t spoil them yet, but examples from previous years are biking, climbing and canoeing.
Next to this, there is more to enjoy during the weekend, you can “stream” in the river at the campsite (ask B.O.O.M. members for details) and in the evening there will be a campfire to keep you warm. Since we are on a campsite, we will sleep in cozy tents.
You don’t have to bring/buy your own food or drinks as this is all inclusive during the weekend! On Friday you have the opportunity to taste Sako’s famous pasta salad, and on Saturday you can enjoy a nice BBQ. Next to that, we will arrange a sufficient supply of beers and soda (and coffee for the tough mornings, don’t worry).

As we need enough cars to drive everyone to Germany, people with a car available will be given priority if necessary. This year, only the fuel costs will be compensated, so make sure to start and end the weekend with a full tank. If you have a car available, please indicate this and mention how many places (including yourself) you have in the car. We would also like to know if you have a tent. We will not make tent groups but this might give other people some help in asking around to find a place to sleep :)

How math can help optimize complex machines @ASML

ASML lithography systems are used to produce microchips with nanometer accuracy. This is only possible because of the large number of the intricate math-based software solutions that are used to optimize the performance of these complex machines. This lecture will give a glimpse into mathematical problems that arise when trying to squeeze every last nanometer out of ASML's lithography systems.

Math Roulette is a fast-paced math competition. You participate in teams of at most 3 people. It consists of 12 rounds with 5 minutes to solve 1 problem and decide how many points you want to bet on it. If it is correct, the bet is added to your score, and if not - it is lost. We will be updating the temporary results of all teams on a board after each round to help you with betting strategies.
There are also a few additional rules that make it even more thrilling, but we will explain them at the beginning of the competition.
