Background:

To investigate the resilience of the autonomous nerve system (ANS) a resilience experiment, with five different stages (mental, hand grip, supine, standing, and walking), was executed in the third-generation participants of the Framingham Heart Study (around 1300 participants). Several vital signs of the heart (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate) were continuously observed throughout the experiment (25–30 minutes of monitoring). The experiment is visualized in the following figure.

Data Analytic Questions:

This type of data is not easy to analyze due to the large number of repeats and its high correlation among sequential data points. One example of the data that is generated is provided in the figure below.

Each person will have their own vital sign profile and all participants react differently to the different stages. Additionally, we have already information on sex and age on each participant, but we are currently trying to add other information (e.g., BMI, smoking, hypertension, past heart problems, treatments) from the participants. 

For the master thesis project, we are trying to answer several data analytical questions:

·        Can we describe the longitudinal vital sign signals properly (functional data analysis, time-series analysis, longitudinal smoothing) and find clusters of participants?

·        Can we define important features calculated per stage and rest period (e.g., average, variation, delta response, autocorrelation, time at maximum response) that summarize the most relevant information in the trajectories?

·        Can we determine the association between certain participant characteristic (age, sex, smoking, etc.) and the vital sign profiles (using the profiles or the features).

Het CBS trekt steekproeven onder de Nederlandse bevolking om diverse statistieken te maken. Hierbij is sprake van selectieve nonrespons. Er worden diverse pogingen worden gedaan om de respons zo gelijkmatig mogelijk te laten zijn (naar diverse achtergrondkenmerken van personen). Om voor deze nonrespons te corrigeren, voeren we een zogenaamde weging uit, waarbij personen een gewicht krijgen op basis van de onder- of oververtegenwoordiging in de respons. Personen met achtergrondkenmerken die ondervertegenwoordigd zijn in de respons krijgen dan een groter gewicht dan personen met achtergrondkenmerken die oververtegenwoordigd zijn. Zie bijvoorbeeld [1] voor algemene informatie over wegen.

Bij het uitvoeren van een weging zijn er diverse zaken om rekening mee te houden. Zo kan niet voor scheefheid in alle achtergrondkenmerken gecorrigeerd worden, omdat de gewichten dan te extreem zouden worden. Daarnaast is het vaak verstandig om überhaupt voor niet te veel achtergrondkenmerken te corrigeren omdat dit een negatieve invloed heeft op de marges op de schattingen voor de doelvariabelen van een onderzoek. Ook is er een relatie met de doelvariabelen in het onderzoek: op het moment dat er een correlatie is tussen een achtergrondkenmerk en de doelvariabelen van een onderzoek, is het wenselijk als er wél gecorrigeerd wordt voor dat achtergrondkenmerk als dat kenmerk scheef in de respons zit. Het is daarom vaak verstandig om toch zo veel mogelijk te corrigeren voor scheefheid in achtergrondkenmerken.

Het CBS heeft een reguliere werkwijze voor het opstellen en uitvoeren van wegingen voor de reguliere onderzoeken. Een optie die nog niet gebruikt wordt, maar wel interessant lijkt is het uitvoeren van een zogenaamde voorweging. Hierbij wordt min of meer de weging in twee stappen gedaan, waardoor er mogelijk voor meer en/of voor andere achtergrondkenmerken gecorrigeerd kan worden. Wellicht is het mogelijk om eerst een correctie uit te voeren voor nonrespons en vervolgens een verdere weging uit te voeren die meer focust op de doelvariabelen van het onderzoek en achtergrondkenmerken die daarmee correleren. Dit soort type vragen speelt zowel bij de reguliere steekproeven die op het CBS worden uitgevoerd als bij potentiële nieuwe toepassingen.

In deze stage ga je aan de slag om verschillende opties voor de weging te analyseren en te kijken naar verschillen tussen deze opties. Op basis van enkele indicatoren kan er wellicht een afweging worden gemaakt van wat welke situatie de voorkeur krijgt.

Together with the Department of Biomedical Engineering (Computational  Biology), I am offering a Master's project that can be started in  January or later.

Suppose we are given a set of patients and for each patient the same  medical measurements have been made (measuring bio transmitters etc).  The goal of computational biology is to inspect the measurements and to  detect rules between different transmitters that explain in which  situations the human body produces certain proteins (which might be  relevant in cancer diagnosis). Having such rules, one can develop  medical treatments that prevent the body to produce these proteins. To  be able to develop effective medical treatments, one is looking for  simple rules between different bio transmitters e.g., transmitters 1 and 2 are active and transmitter 3 is inactive.

The goal of this Master's project is to develop and implement integer  programming techniques that allow to find rules between different bio  transmitters. Among others, we expect that techniques such as column  generation and branch-and-price can be useful to achieve the desired  goal. Since implementation is an important aspect of this project, good  programming skills in Python and/or C/C++ are required.

Deze stage gaat over het uitvoeren van wegingen voor zogenaamde herbenaderingen. Dit zijn onderzoeken waarbij personen worden aangeschreven die al eerder aan een CBS-onderzoek hebben deelgenomen. Het is de vraag wat handig is om als startgewicht te gebruiken. Deze zou gekozen kunnen worden op basis van het eerste CBS-onderzoek waar een persoon aan heeft deelgenomen. Voor het originele onderzoek is echter ook een weging uitgevoerd en het startgewicht voor de herbenadering zou ook gekozen kunnen worden als het gewicht na de weging van het originele onderzoek. Dan heeft er dus al een correctie voor nonrespons plaatsgevonden en kan er bij de herbenadering “verder” gewogen worden voor de eventuele extra onder- of oververtegenwoordiging bij de herbenadering.

In deze stage is het de bedoeling om verschillen tussen de twee opties in kaart te brengen. Zijn er verschillen en zo ja hoe groot zijn die? Als er een verschil is, is het zeer interessant om te kijken of het mogelijk is om te achterhalen waarom die verschillen er zijn en welke optie de voorkeur zou hebben.

As a Quantitative Research Intern, you will get to work with our research team of mathematicians, scientists and technologists, to help develop the models that drive Optiver’s trading. What you’ll do

Wat ga jij doen? 

Als werkstudent werk je nauw samen met onze Product Owner, Developers, Consultants en de Head of Technology. De inhoud van je werk is afwisselend en beweegt mee met de prioriteiten van het team. Je krijgt een goede introductie in ons platform en leert stap voor stap hoe onze oplossingen technisch en functioneel in elkaar zitten. Je werkzaamheden bestaan onder andere uit:• Software en acceptatietesten: je voert standaard acceptatietesten uit en controleert of nieuwe functionaliteiten doen wat ze moeten doen.• Developmentcases testen: je ondersteunt development met het testen van minimaal één case per week en beschrijft bevindingen helder in ons ticketsysteem.• Back-end stresstesten: je helpt de Product Owner met het opzetten en uitvoeren van stresstesten en onderzoekt waar prestaties of stabiliteit beter kunnen.•Testautomatisering: je werkt mee aan projecten om unit tests en andere testwerkzaamheden verder te automatiseren.• Onderzoek en innovatie: je pakt uiteenlopende onderzoeksprojecten op, afhankelijk van de vraagstukken die samen met de Head of Technology worden geprioriteerd.• AI in de praktijk: je onderzoekt en test hoe we AI kunnen inzetten om interne processen slimmer, sneller en consistenter te maken.• Content en video: je helpt af en toe met video-editing voor marketing, productuitleg en instructies voor klanten.• Lunchspecial: iedere eerste week van de maand verzorg je een extraatje bij de lunch. Afhankelijk van jouw kookskills en/of creativiteit.• Diverse werkzaamheden ondersteunend aan collega’s: er zijn af en toe werkzaamheden (bijvoorbeeld een kerstboom opzetten) waar we jouw hulp goed kunnen gebruiken. 

 

Je rol groeit mee met wat je laat zien. Neem je initiatief en lever je goed werk, dan krijg je steeds meer ruimte voor complexere projecten. 

 

Jouw rol in de praktijk 

Je start je werkdag met een korte dagstart met je scrumteam. Daarna werk je bijvoorbeeld aan een acceptatietest, bespreek je een developmentcase, analyseer je testresultaten of experimenteer je met een AI-toepassing. Je schakelt makkelijk tussen zorgvuldig testen, zelfstandig uitzoeken en samenwerken met collega’s. 

 

Naast je inhoudelijke werk draag je ook bij aan het team. Zo verzorg je ongeveer één week per maand samen met collega’s de lunchspecial en help je af en toe met een praktische kantoorklus. Van een instructievideo maken tot de kerstboom opzetten: bij Anago pakken we dingen samen op.

Junior (Linked) Data Specialist

Werken bij Wistor / BIM-Connected betekent werken bij een groeiend, gaaf, energiek en vooroplopend bedrijf. Op professionele en eigen wijze werken wij aan een optimale dienstverlening voor onze klanten. Wij werken aan uitdagende digitaliseringsprojecten bij grote publieke en private klanten in de bouw-, infra- en energiesector. Onze expertise helpt hen om bedrijfsprocessen te verbeteren, om meer op basis van feitelijke data te kunnen werken. We helpen om data te structureren en daardoor efficiënter te werken. Data maken wij waardevol, zodat de klant altijd de juiste informatie ter beschikking heeft. Wij volgen hierin het data-centrisch gedachtegoed. Data eerst. De applicatie is volgend.

Wistor is ons platform wat dit gedachtegoed ondersteund. Een schaalbaar, flexibel en modulair platform die bovenop datasets, vastgelegd in open data standaarden, geconfigureerd wordt. Data (uit meerdere bronnen) wordt geharmoniseerd, gevisualiseerd en geanalyseerd. Linked data is de motor en ruggengraat van het Wistor platform. Het is de techniek om informatiemodellen op te zetten en een ‘link’ te leggen wat o.a. 2D en 3D-data.

Functieomschrijving Wij zoeken: Een enthousiaste collega (junior/medior) die grote interesse en affiniteit heeft met informatietechnologie. En specifiek kennis van en geloof in het data-centrisch werken. Je houdt van innovatie en loopt graag voorop met specifieke kennis om de klant zo goed mogelijk te adviseren. Je hebt kennis van datamodellen, programmeer- en / of modelleertalen, waardoor je in staat bent met meerdere rollen zoals een data specialist en software ontwikkelaar te communiceren. Daarnaast heb je door jouw ervaringen de kennis en kunde (potentiële) opdrachtgevers te overtuigen van de inzet open (data) standaarden. Verder ben je assertief en kun je goed met vrijheid en flexibiliteit omgaan, want dat krijg je!

Dit ga je doen: Toffe en uitdagende projecten waarin digitalisering en de techniek van Linked Data centraal staat. Je komt samen met jouw collega(‘s) binnen de digitaliserings-/ innovatietak van een grootschalig bedrijf terecht, waar je meehelpt om informatie, in de meeste gevallen over gebouwde objecten, beter te structuren, analyseren en gebruiken. Of je maakt deel uit van een intern projectteam, waarmee je zorgt dat het Wistor platform zo optimaal wordt geconfigureerd, om aan de behoeften van de klant te voldoen. En zelfs hun verwachtingen te overstijgen! Je zal met meerdere rollen praten om het project naar wens uit te voeren en draagvlak te creëren bij de uiteindelijke gebruikers. Denk aan projectleiders en data architecten, maar ook aan vakkundige specialisten. Je kennis en advies wordt erg op prijs gesteld gezien de hoge mate van innovatie/vernieuwing. Dit maakt je werk divers en bovenal uitdagend!

Je werkomgeving: Onze thuisbasis is gevestigd in de wijk Strijp-S in Eindhoven. Een plek waar innovatieve bedrijven zijn gevestigd in oude gerenoveerde fabrieksgebouwen. Op ons kantoor heerst een informele sfeer waar collega’s in een hecht teamverband werken. Het kantoor is goed te bereiken met zowel de auto als het openbaar vervoer. Minimaal één dag per week (vrijdags) zien we je graag op ons kantoor. De overige dagen heb je de vrijheid om, natuurlijk ook in overleg met eventuele opdrachtgevers,  te werken waar jij dat fijn vindt. Hoe we ons werk doen is belangrijker waar we ons werk doen.

Jouw profiel Heb jij…

een HBO of WO opleiding/achtergrond; de kennis om de meerwaarde van open data standaarden uit te leggen; (basis)kennis van Linked Data (RDF, OWL, SHACL, SPARQL); het onderscheid tussen applicatie, informatiemodel en instantiedata in de smiezen.

Ons aanbod

Een bruto maandsalaris van maximaal € 4.500*. Verdere doorgroei mogelijk. Winstdeling. Een jaarlijks opleidingsbudget van € 2.000.
