Internship GPU Supported X-Ray-Image Synthesis at Philips

Description

Your role:

We are looking for a student who is interested to join our team as an internship student (~6 months) for the following assignments:

  • Implementation of ideas on X-ray-image simulation in a C/C++ based simulation framework, in particular writing CUDA-based software.
  • Testing, evaluation and documentation of said implementation.
  • Contribution to the discussion on algorithm improvement.
  • Finalizing the done work in a written report.

The internship can potentially be extended to related topics for a master thesis.

On the project background:

The TASTI project (tasti-project.eu) intends to create a hardware-supported software framework to create and validate highly realistic synthetic images, in particular, artificial X-ray images of modern medical X-ray imaging systems, as for instance the Philips Azurion systems for interventional treatments.

System simulation and synthetic images of virtual procedures on virtual humans help to enable medical training, economic and scalable system testing, and might be used for AI training and testing in new treatment applications.

CPU-based X-ray image simulation is currently still too slow for real-time applications with adequate realism. Therefore, major efforts are currently put on hardware acceleration (e.g. using GPU and/or FPGA). For the hardware acceleration, the usage of an NVIDIA Quadro P5000 GPU is envisaged.

You're the right fit if:

  • You are studying towards your Bachelor or Master in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Engineering or any related study;
  • You have already gained experience with coding in C/C++ via projects at school or internship;
  • experience on GPU (CUDA) programming (or intention to develop skills in this area of expertise),
  • Helpful (but not mandatory) skills might include: Experience in raytracing in general (e.g., optical raytracing).
  • You are curious and eager to learn with a connecting attitude and a self-driven work discipline.

In return, we offer you

A non-stop growth opportunity within a global multinational company. IN addition, we also want to remunerate you well for the opportunity. This includes:

  • Monthly full-time allowance between €500 - €700 gross, depending on your education level and if you need to relocate to The Netherlands. Part-time internships receive the allowance pro-rata.
  • Housing compensation. Should you need to relocate to near our office, we’ll offer you a monthly allowance of €300,- net if location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, €255,- net for all other Philips locations. To be eligible, we’ll just ask for the rental contract from your landlord, and your usual home-work travel distance needs to be more than 50 km or 1.5 hours of travel time (for a one way trip).
  • Travel compensation, if you are not eligible for a free public transport card; you will receive max. €192,- net as a monthly allowance.
  • Paid holidays per internship term.
