On Wednesday the 24th of April, C4 is organizing a great career event: The C4 Company Dinner! For only 15 euros you will get a full dinner with drinks as well as a borrel afterward in restaurant The Spijker and you will be able to talk to five companies about anything you want.

At the dinner, five companies will attend, of which you can choose Three to talk with. With all of them, you will enjoy three nice courses and 5 drinks to discover the career possibilities they have in an informal conversation. At the end of the dinner, there will also be a social drink where you can talk with all of the other companies, or talk some more with your favorite company.

Are you a Master's student? Then you are lucky! If there are more than 60 people subscribed to this activity, we will put Master students first. We will ask for your preferred meals later on, but there will be both meat and vegetarian options. Make sure to let us know your field of interest and which companies you would like to have dinner with.

Beste lezer,

Zelfs als je onder een steen geleefd hebt, moet je gemerkt hebben dat Hèt Dispuut dit academisch jaar al tal van activiteiten heeft georganiseerd. We trapten het jaar sterk af met een amusante opening van het academisch jaar, waarbij we een voorproefje gaven van alle grootse evenementen die ons dispuut dit jaar zou organiseren. Dit werd gevolgd door een fantastische lustwijnweek, waar elke dag gevuld was met leuke activiteiten. Vervolgens gingen we verder met een feest samen met ATHENA en GEPWNAGE en verwelkomden we de leden van GEWIS terug na een lange, koude kerstvakantie.

Om de spanning nog wat op te voeren, organiseerden we zelfs nog een Keuken met I.V.V om ervoor te zorgen dat jullie konden genieten van het luisteren naar I.V.V'ers vanuit het comfort van je eigen huis.

Hoewel we als dispuut nooit ophouden met het organiseren van de meest prominente evenementen, genieten we ook van de eenvoudigere dingen in het leven. Een glas wijn, met een lekker hapje erbij. Geen franje, gewoon genieten. En aangezien we merkten dat er een ongebruikte avond was in april, zou die perfect zijn voor een leuke, simpele, reguliere Maand'lijksche Borrel. Dat we na dit jaar van spanning en sensatie weer lekker een wijntje kunnen drinken bij Het Dakterras.

Dus, beste lezer, kom op drieëntwintig april om 17:00 uur naar Het Dakterras om te genieten van wijn en hapjes.

How to bring offline capabilities into a cloud based low code platform (PEGA)

Have you ever thought about how offline applications can make a fieldworker's life easier? De Mandemakers Group delivers 1000 kitchens every week thanks to 650 mobile employees. Our mechanics use the Field Service application to register the delivery and assembly of the kitchen(s). As you can imagine, this is an essential step in our customer journey. Our mobile applications support them during this journey, but often depend on a stable Internet connection. So how do you ensure that your employees can also work offline?

CIO Anjo will introduce you to the company and our business challenges. Pega developer Davy focuses on the use of Javascript possibilities to use the mobile application in an offline situation. This session will show you more about how we use Pega, case management, the interaction between server and client and the use of Javascript. Moreover, we would like to introduce you to the possibilities our Dutch company can offer for a career in Tech & IT.

To ensure everyone has all the information on the 22nd of April at MF 15 there will be a second interest lunch, with information about trip details, safety protocols, financial planning and participation criteria. This gathering is your opportunity to get all the answers to your questions and learn how you can be a part of this amazing journey. Whether you’re eager to learn more about the study trip, curious about the destinations or just want to listen, this meeting is for you. Note: Participants in the study trip must be enrolled in one of the Mathematics & Computer Science department programs at TU/e for the academic year 2024/2025 and have earned at least 60 ECTS at TU/e or any other recognized university by the time of registration for the study tour in April. 

If you are graduating in the summer of 2025 you can ask the exam committee to delay your official graduation (according to the OER) such that you can still join the study trip.

POKÉMON: GOTTA EAT 'EM ALL!

This time GETAART and GEPWNAGE are combining their powers with the ultimate culinary showdown: The Pokébowl activity.

Get ready to channel your inner Pokémon Trainer and culinary genius because we're turning pokébowls into works of art. Pickachu? Squirtle? More like "Pika-choose this bowl". We are talking about pokébowl perfection, picture yourself crafting a pokébowl masterpiece that looks so good, even Pickachu would be jealous about its appearance. Charmander? More like Char-muncher. Get ready to "Diglett" into the tastiest pokebowl creations you've ever seen. Prepare for a flavor explosion that'll have you saying, "Blastoise, that's delicious. " or “Mew-licious”. Get ready to "Seel" the deal with pokébowls so delicious, you'll be saying, "I choose you, every time!", or even “Absol-utely delicious”. Okay last one:  Why did the Pokémon bring a towel to the cooking competition? Because it wanted to make sure it didn’t get Misty!

Join us this Easter weekend for an amazing hitchhiking adventure to the south of Germany! In a span of two days, you will travel from Eindhoven to Frankfurt am Main, and then to Munich. The travelling itself is for free, since you will be hitchhiking together with your buddy. On Sunday, you will have a lot of free time to explore Munich. For the low price of €50, you will get:

Gridshield is a safeguard against grid overload, dynamically managing the power of charging stations for electric vehicles to ensure stability. Think of it as an extra safety net for energy grids. GridShield is a combination of hardware, software, and data, co-engineered hand-in-hand with ElaadNL. After a 9-month journey, we proudly delivered an operational Gridshield system, poised for real-world testing on a grand scale.

ATHENA is organizing a city trip to a German city this time, following some successful trips to Dutch and Belgium cities: we are going to Cologne! 🇩🇪

We will be visiting Cologne from Friday 22nd of March to Sunday 24th of March, for which we have arranged a place to sleep for two nights including breakfast 🥐, a fun activity, a tour past the highlights of Cologne, and dinner on Saturday.

The rest of the weekend you are free to do whatever you like: explore the historic old town, drink some beers, go on a fountain scavenger hunt or just relax. 🔍🍺⛲🧘🏽‍♀

The subscription list will open Thursday 8th of February at 12:00h. There are only 35 spots available, so be sure to subscribe on time!  - If there are more than 35 subscriptions in the first hour, there will be a draw amongst those who subscribed in the first hour. After this, it will be first come first serve.  - If it is not full in the first hour, the participants will be based on a first come first serve basis.

We will travel to Cologne by car 🚗, so please indicate whether you have a car available and how many people you can bring with you. The exact start and end times of the weekend depend on your available departure times and the overall car schedule.

Hello fellow students,  Do you like to puzzle with numbers and challenge yourself? Or do you like to win? Then take part in the W4 Kangaroo competition.

On the 21 March we are organising the W4 Kangaroo maths competition, the Dutch version of the worldwide Mathematical Kangaroo. In this test you will get 30 maths questions of increasing difficulty, that everyone (including Computer Science students) can have a fun time with.

The competition lasts 75 minutes and no calculators are allowed. All you need is a pencil and your brain. By subscribing we will know how many versions we need to print. Please note that the exam can be taken in both Dutch and English.

The time has finally come! The yearbook of 2021-2022 has arrived. We from YBC22 could not be happier to finally show off our masterpiece.

If you have written a piece for the yearbook, you might remember a hint about the theme. To celebrate in style we will host an epic board game night. During this evening the actual theme of the yearbook will be revealed as well as the yearbook itself!

This activity is the perfect opportunity to reminisce on the past, here you can look back at all your favorite memories with your friends. All whilst enjoying some fun games. This is also the chance to pick up your very own yearbook.

During the activity, we will provide games and some nice snacks! The more sign-ups, the more snacks we can buy (love capitalism). However, you are still welcome to drop by without signing up. Don't leave your presence up to chance, roll the dice in your favor and advance straight into this epic board game night.

Geachte leden van GEWIS,

Terug in de tijd, tijdens de lockdowns, hebben wij van Hèt Dispuut "In Vino Veritas" de perfecte activiteit bedacht: een kookshow die iedereen vanuit huis kon volgen. Nu lijken die lockdowns en de pandemie gelukkig verhalen uit lang vervlogen tijden. Maar, zoals u wellicht weet, viert I.V.V dit jaar zijn 4e Lustrum! Dus, toen we ons realiseerden dat de laatste aflevering Volume IV was, betekende dit dat we de Lustrumaflevering in ons Lustrumjaar konden organiseren!

Daarom, beste leden, hebben we zorgvuldig geluisterd naar het advies van onze voorgangers en oudere leden: "Wat je ook doet, organiseer nooit een 'Keuken met I.V.V'" en we zijn eropuit gegaan om te ontdekken waarom ze ons waarschuwden. Gelukkig hoeft u niets anders te doen dan met ons mee te koken! Gezien de tijd van het jaar, zullen we u leren hoe u een heerlijk Paasdiner kunt bereiden, met als hoofdgerecht een Wild Konijn Stoofpot!

Deze kookshow, die de concurrentie met Hell's Kitchen aangaat, zal plaatsvinden op Twitch (twitch.tv/hetdispuut) en zal beginnen op dinsdag 19 maart, om ongeveer half zes. De inschrijflijst zal openen op maandag 4 maart en zal sluiten op vrijdag 15 maart. Wij zullen ervoor zorgen dat de meeste ingrediënten af te halen zijn in de GEWIS-kamer. De rest van de ingrediënten, die vermeld zullen worden in het recept dat binnenkort online komt, dient u zelf aan te schaffen voor een verwaarloosbaar bedrag. Gelieve per groep in te schrijven, en alleen degene die het eten komt ophalen. Het diner is voor ongeveer 4/5 personen, echter kunnen alle gangen worden bewaard of deels voorbereid worden. (De stoofpot smaakt zelfs beter als hij over twee dagen gegeten wordt!)

The activity will open with us as Humbug singing together, so make sure you’re not late so you don’t miss that life-changing experience. There is also another surprise performance from one of us later on so be on the lookout for that ;)

Do you feel like you can handle everyone at GEWIS when it comes to mathematics? Or do you just feel like solving some hard Math exercises? Then you should come to the mathematics competition on Saturday 16th of March.

Together with Da Vinci Derivatives, we have established a set of challenging mathematical questions which you can tackle in groups of three. To ensure you won't be hungry during the competition, we will provide lunch first. After that you and your teammates will be set and ready to solve the exercises.  

To round off, we will have a small drink together. Here, the winner of the competition will be announced and, of course, we have arranged some prices!  

At most 35 people can sign up. If more than 35 people sign up, a first-come-first-served policy will be used. Together with our old owls (oude dozen) we set up a special beer drink, including lovely homemade bites that fit the beers. The beers are in the theme of the previous weekends we organized for GEWIS, do you recognize them?

Since it is our 10th birthday🎉, we will have 10 different sorts of sour(z) shots available🥃🔟. To enjoy some of these delicious drinks, you can buy a borrel card for 5 euros which will contain 5 of these sour(z) shots🥂.

Next to that, you can come decorate a party hat🥳 with us and we have a different veggie option for the buns🥯, next to the usual ‘broodje knak’. You can of course also just enjoy a beer or viper and chat with your friends🫶!

For Tuesday, we transformed a previously seen activity into something that fits ATHENA a bit better. We will be organizing a centurion but with a twist. 🌀 During a centurion, you will take a shot of, usually beer, every minute for a total of one hundred minutes while listening to some music. 🎶 As beer does not really fit ATHENA, we will prepare cocktails to shot! 🍸Additionally, there will be a personalized playlist selected by ATHENA. You can definitely expect K3, Beyoncé, P!nk, Disney and some other singalongs. 👩🏻‍🦰👩🏼👩🏻

During the centurion you will be taking a 20 ml shot of cocktail every minute. We will serve Malibu Ice Tea Green and Peachtree Sprite, and switch halfway. If you don’t like either of those two, please let us know, as you will most likely be able to join the full centurion by drinking one of these two.

Be aware that it is not wise to enter this activity on an empty stomach, so make sure you have eaten properly beforehand. In addition, please do not drink any alcohol before the activity starts.

Improving inclusive travel with privacy technology

Data provides significant opportunities, but it also comes with great responsibility. How can we use and connect sensitive data, such as travel records, from different organizations without violating privacy laws or exposing sensitive information? Roseman Labs' solution uses a cryptographic technique called Secure Multi-Party Computation (MPC). Our technology allows organizations to combine and jointly analyze datasets without exposing their data.

In this lunch lecture, we will explain the concepts behind this technology and how it's applied. We will also detail a real-world case study of Publiek Vervoer Groningen Drenthe, a public transport organization that used Roseman Labs technology to optimize their social travel subsidies (WMO) with MPC. This innovative project won them the 2024 Dutch Privacy Award in the Application category.

Have you ever seen the show Hot Ones on YouTube and wished to be able to try those hot sauces yourself, to see whether you could sustain them all? Défi has you covered!

On the 27th of February we will embark on a journey with seven different hot sauces, of which some are actually used on the show and one is made by Défi! All sauces are accompanied by different (vegetarian) snacks. (Note that seven snacks is quite a lot, but does not serve as dinner, so eat something small beforehand please :) ) Aside from these seven snacks, two spicy cocktails will be made by Défi which you can get when also buying an alcohol ticket for one additional euro. There are, of course, substitutes available for the contestants who cannot survive the spiciness of all of the sauces ;). Other than an interview, we will provide you with spicy questions to answer and challenges to do to distract you from the hot sauces!

Défi wouldn't be Défi if we didn't add a challenge to this spicy activity. You have to subscribe in a duo and can earn points in multiple ways, which will become clear during the activity. The winning duo will go home with a prize! Note that your duo partner should be someone who you are comfortable sharing things with.

There is a limited capacity of 36 people (so 18 duo's), so it will be a first-come-first-serve activity!

Hello fellow students,

During the lunch break on 22nd February we will have a training session with Tom Verhoeff to help you prepare for the W4 Kangaroo maths competition, the Dutch version of the worldwide Mathematical Kangaroo. In this maths competition you will be given 30 questions of increasing difficulty. With this training we help you to prepare for the kind of questions you can expect by discussing a previous exam. Please note that the training session is in English, while the exam can be taken  in both Dutch and English.

Are you solid at pool? Or do you want to earn your stripes? Either way, this is your cue to join AC pooling.  Wednesday February 21st, you can come pooling with us at the Rex. You will share a table with 3 other members (4 people per table). Everyone can pool for two hours for €2,50 (€1,50 for first years), but if you love it so much and want to extend it with an extra hour, you can do so at your own cost. The pooling at the Rex starts at 19:00, but if you want to travel together with us, make sure you're at GEWIS at half past six, so we can head to the pool centre by bike or public transport.

Note: There is a hard cap of 32 available spots, which are filled on a first come, first serve basis!

Attention everyone! We're excited to announce the upcoming ski trip from February 17th to February 22nd. We'll be hitting the slopes and enjoying the beautiful winter scenery for five nights, with six days of skiing! But that's not all - next to the ski pass that is included in the price, we've got some extra options available for those who want to make the most of their experience.

If you're a beginner, be sure to sign up for ski lessons so you can hit the slopes with confidence. Please note that beginners will be required to pay an additional fee of 30 euros to cover the cost of mandatory ski lessons. And if skiing all day every day isn't your thing, we've got some side activities planned to keep you entertained, and the best part is: they're all free!

Now, here's even more exciting news! The city center is only a few minutes' walk away from the accommodation, making it super convenient to explore and have a blast in the evenings and nights at the many fun après-ski bars! Please be aware that ski gear and food are not included in the trip price. However, you will be able to rent everything you need via us, and most rooms have a kitchen that you can share together. There are also various restaurants nearby, ranging from cheap kebab spots to more fancy dining options. So, you'll have plenty of choices to satisfy your appetite and fuel up for the adventures!

Since people in Eindhoven are already pretty crazy about Carnaval, you can only imagine how insane people will get when you go as far south as you can. Together with our prince, we will be travelling to Maastricht to celebrate the Carnaval Monday there. Don't worry if you don't know the city, we know just the places to go!

On Saturday February 10th 2024, a group of international Erasmus exchange students will arrive on the TU/e campus to have an amazing introduction day! Those international students are staying here for at least half a year, but they have no knowledge about the Netherlands, Eindhoven, or this university. To help those students feel at home, we are organizing this introduction day!

Each buddy will get a small group of Erasmus students assigned to them to guide them during the day. Therefore, we are looking for you! On the 10th of February you will meet your buddies in real life and you will guide them during the day. During this intro day, you will have the chance to get to know more people and make friends from all over the world. The intro day will be completely free for you and there will lots of fun activities. We won't spoil too much but there definitely will be a city tour and a pubquiz.

Need a break from the exams 📚🙇? Taking the Friday afternoon off and looking for low-key things to do? Come to GEWIS and play a game of Mario Kart 🎮! 

Taking breaks between studying is very important. Giving your brain a 10-15 minutes of breather time will allow you to recharge and continue fresh 🧠. We will make sure that the couch booth is equipped with some snacks  during the day and the only thing to do is find a partner or partners to play with. Bring your friends or stop by the GEWIS room to find enthusiastic people to play the game with!

Waarde lezer,

Het nieuwe jaar is begonnen, wat natuurlijk betekent dat we onze goede voornemens koesteren of juist laten varen. Met nog maar een week te gaan tot de tentamens beginnen, is het tijd voor zelfreflectie: hoeveel zin heeft het nog om voor mijn tentamens te studeren? Is mijn tijd beter besteed aan studeren of aan wijn consumeren? Moet ik een vak laten vallen of ga ik mijn lesje leren?

Deze vragen kunnen menig student nachtenlang wakker houden, maar de leden van Hèt Dispuut "In Vino Veritas" weten hier wel raad mee. Het nieuwe jaar is begonnen; in plaats van piekeren over je vakken, adviseren wij om te pieken met een glas wijn. Natuurlijk geven wij(n) niet alleen goede ideeën, maar zijn we ook zo netjes om dit te faciliteren. Laat de studieboeken daarom voor één avondje rechts liggen, treat yourself, en kom naar de nieuwjaarsborrel!

Hèt Dispuut zal voor feestelijke wijn zorgen en wat hapjes om de sfeer te complementeren.

Trek goede wandelschoenen aan en neem deel onze WhatsAppgroep voor de laatste updates. We zullen pauzeren bij een lokaal café, maar het kan zeker geen kwaad om ook wat water en een snack voor onderweg mee te nemen.

The AC Werewolves ACtivity is bACk once more! For those who don't know it, Werewolves of Miller's Hollow is a social deduction game like Maffia. The townsfolk try to find and execute the werewolves who devour one of them every night. The werewolves want to take out the town for their food and safety.

For those who don't survive the chaos (or those who prefer a faster paced game), we have the one night version as well. Or you can chat with some snACks while you watch the chaos evolve.

ATHENA loves Christmas ⛄ with lots of hot chocolate, glühwein, glitters, Christmas trees, lights, food, and great company. This is why we are organising a great Christmas activity to enjoy together. On the 20th of December, you will be able to make your own Christmas-themed crafts. We will be getting into the Christmas spirit by creating Christmas cards to send to all your friends or family, macrame some Christmas tree ornaments and decorate your own glass candle holder. For the last one, it is advised to bring a glass jar. A clean old peanut butter jar or similar would suffice, as long as a tea light can fit through the top. For the rest, we will give you all the tools to make these Christmas objects. We will also arrange some glühwein 🍷, hot chocolate 🍫, and Christmas snacks for the evening. Join us on the 20th of December at 18:30 in GEWIS to get into the Christmas spirit for just €1,50- for first-year students and €3,50 for other Christmas lovers.

Hooggeëerd publiek,

Het is ons een grote eer en een waar genoegen u te mogen melden dat het Dispuut “In Vino Veritas” dit jaar wederom een prachtig en fenomenaal weekend gaat organiseren dat overduidelijk voor de aanwezigen in het geheugen zal staan als één van de acht wonderen van de wereld! In het weekend van acht, negen en tien december zullen wij afreizen naar een prachtig chateau om u te voorzien van zowel drank, vermaak, een gevulde maag als een plek om uw hoofd te rusten.

Op vrijdag zullen wij afreizen naar het prachtige chateau, waar u met een warm welkom ontvangen zal worden. Hier krijgt u de kans om te herstellen en zich te verschonen. Zo wordt u in staat gesteld om tijdelijk het verpauperde leven van het studentleven achter te laten en de innerlijke Bourgondiër naar boven te laten komen. Zo zal er een heerlijke maaltijd voor u klaargemaakt zijn en krijgt u de luxe om te genieten van sublieme wijnen die speciaal uitgekozen zijn door echte kenners!

Tevens is dit ook het einde van de Lustrumwijnweek van Hèt Dispuut en wordt Hèt Dispuut ook twintig jaar oud op de negende van december! Daarom zullen wij ook op de nacht van vrijdag naar zaterdag vieren dat het langst levende dispuut van GEWIS weer een jaar ouder is geworden. Wees vooral bereid om dit samen met het Dispuut “In Vino Veritas” te vieren en dit moment te koesteren. Gezien dit een heuze viering wordt, verwachten we iedereen aanwezig op de locatie om 19:00 voor de avondmaaltijd.

Op de zaterdagochtend zal u de mogelijkheid krijgen om stevig te ontbijten en uzelf op te rapen na de fantastische nacht die voorheen heeft plaatsgevonden. Toch zal er ook een moment komen dat u tijdelijk het chateau zal moeten verlaten. Gelukkig weet Hèt Dispuut ook dan weer te voorzien van een middag vol belevenissen om later aan uw kinderen door te vertellen!

Terwijl u zich zult vermaken met de zaterdagmiddagactiviteit, zullen enkele leden van Hèt Dispuut achterblijven in het chateau, waar wij een excellent 7-gangendiner zullen voorbereiden waar u van zal gaan genieten gedurende de avond die volgt. Hier zult u gezegend worden door de Magnum opus binnen de culinaire wereld.

Bij uw wederkeer bij het chateau krijgt u de optie (lees: sterke suggestie) om uw kledij aan te passen naar kleding die eer doet aan wat u te wachten staat en past bij het decadente niveau van Het Weekend van Het Jaar.

Gedurende het diner zal op meerdere momenten vermaakt worden met entertainment dat met alle liefde en passie is voorbereid. Wanneer men verzadigd is en de laatste gang geconcludeerd is, zal u nog de mogelijkheid hebben om na te genieten van het fantastische diner onder het genot van de overgebleven wijn, zodat iedereen content en met een voldaan gevoel de nachtrust kan opzoeken. Wanneer de zon weer door de ramen begint te schemeren en u langzaam uit uw slaap ontwaakt, al is dit wellicht met enige moeite, en u kort heeft kunnen ontbijten, zullen wij u verzoeken (kort) te helpen met het opruimen van het chateau. Waarna u vrij bent om een einde te knopen aan dit prachtige weekend en het voor eeuwig in uw geheugen te laten galmen.

Voor dit majestueuze weekend zal plek zijn voor 29 man, dus schrijf u snel in!

Waarde lezer,

Voor de oplettende onder u is het mogelijk al opgevallen dat er ene bepaalde thematische draai zit aan onze lustrumactiviteiten. Om twintig jaar van Hét Dispuut te vieren, kijken we terug naar ons verleden en de activiteiten die ons dispuut zo grandioos heeft gemaakt, uiteraard met een hedendaagse draai. Maak daarom kennis met een juweel uit onze rijke geschiedenis: "Met de Fles op Tafel".

Voor velen is "pubquizzen" een bekend concept, zelfs menig I.V.V'er deinst er niet voor terug om zijn onuitputtende kennis tentoon te stellen. Echter, wij, als heren van Hét Dispuut, vinden dat er bij een doorsnee pubquiz en vergelijkbare kennisproeven iets essentieels ontbreekt; een bepaalde "je ne sais quoi". Met enkel feitenkennis en trivia kom je in het leven niet zo ver, en wij van I.V.V weten wat er ontbreekt: tactisch denkvermogen. Bluffen, bedriegen, liegen en alle psychologische spelletjes die daarbij komen kijken kunnen ervoor zorgen dat je, ondanks een gebrek aan algemene kennis, toch triomfeert.

Wie wil er nu niet zijn tegenstander strak aankijken en zeggen: "Natuurlijk weet ik wat de hoofdstad van Oezbekistan is"? Als je maar overtuigend genoeg bent en daardoor je tegenstander tot opgave dwingt, maakt het dan nog uit dat het Tasjkent is? Natuurlijk niet! Wat een fantastisch gevoel is dat, zo overweldigend dat we het volgende voor u allen willen organiseren.

De heren van Hét Dispuut zullen een bluf- en kennisquiz organiseren, geïnspireerd door het zeer succesvolle NPO-programma "Met het Mes op Tafel". Gezien de kernprincipes van ons dispuut zullen wij "Met de Fles op Tafel" spelen. Mocht u niet bekend zijn met de spelregels, dan raden wij u aan een aflevering te bekijken om vertrouwd te raken met het verloop van het spel. Daarnaast zullen de spelregels en het verloop van het spel aan het begin en gedurende de activiteit nog eens duidelijk worden uitgelegd.

Hoewel "I.V.V. zal zorgen voor heerlijke hapjes en wijnen" klinkt als een vanzelfsprekendheid, vermelden we het toch opnieuw om eventuele zorgen bij de deelnemers weg te nemen. Na afloop is er een na-borrel, waar u samen met uw quizmasters en mededeelnemers kunt terugblikken op een geslaagd programma.

Met groot genoegen kondigt Hèt Dispuut "In Vino Veritas" de aankomende Openbare Dispuutsvergadering aan. Dit is een unieke gelegenheid voor alle leden en geïnteresseerde toehoorders om een kijkje te nemen in de interne werking en besluitvormingsprocessen van Hèt Dispuut.

Wij stellen onze deuren open en nodigen u uit om op 5 december aanwezig te zijn. U krijgt dan de kans om te observeren hoe wij, met vastberadenheid en een streven naar perfectie, debatteren en delibereren.

Deze bijeenkomst biedt u inzicht in onze werkwijze, de discussies die wij voeren en de beslissingen die we nemen, die tezamen de toekomst van Hèt Dispuut vormen. Voor aspirant-leden is dit het ideale moment om ervaring op te doen en mogelijk inspiratie te vinden voor hun eigen bijdragen aan onze gemeenschap.

Take, for example, Formula 1: to estimate the performance of a car, one can simulate and analyze the flow of air around it. In order to find the optimal design, a general approach is to make tiny changes and see if it improves the flow field. Menig student droomt er al maanden van: de opening van onze lustwijnweek. Een week die in het teken staat van Bourgondisch genieten, de consumptie van wijn en ongeremd plezier. Tijdens de viering van ons vierde lustrum zal Hèt Dispuut "In Vino Veritas" er alles aan doen om ervoor te zorgen dat menig student eindelijk kan ontsnappen aan hun dagelijkse ritme.

Het thema van deze maandelijkse borrel is niet geheel verrassend, gezien maandag 4 december de mondiale Dag van de Kurk is. Een week getekend door wijn, zoals onze lustwijnweek, begint natuurlijk bij het ontkurken van een fles!

Natuurlijk zullen er nog wat verrassingen zijn ter ere van ons lustrum en, zoals iedereen al verwacht, genoeg wijn om de avond te vergezellen. De festiviteiten zullen plaatsvinden in de gebruikelijke GEWIS-ruimte "Het Dakterras" en zullen aanvangen op maandag 4 december om 17:00 uur. Wij hopen u daar allen te mogen treffen voor deze grandioze viering!

What is green, grumpy, and lives in a swamp? That's right, Shrek! If you want to start early with holidays and activities such as sleeping longer and drinking hot beverages, we have the perfect activity for you! On Friday, December 1st, we will be hosting a movie night! We will prepare bean bags, but there might not be enough spots for everyone (hint: bring a camping hair with you if you have one). There will be hot chocolate and snacks provided for ultimate fun. The SudoSOS drinks and snacks are always available at your cost. Coming 29th November the 2023 Edition of the SNiC - CreativIT will take place in 'DeFabrique' in Utrecht.

First, for those of you that aren’t all too familiar, a little more about the SNiC: The SNIC itself takes place yearly in November, in a different city every year. It attracts hundreds of students from all throughout the country. It’s a single-day event where lots of speakers come and give an interesting talk about state-of-the-art technology or practices in the aforementioned fields. Not only is the day filled with exciting presentations about innovation, during the breaks and after the event you’re also able to have a chat with any of the participating companies of the conference. They can tell you a lot about career-related questions and projects that their companies are currently working on related to the themes of the conference.

This year the theme will be CreativIT, focussing on the creative ways our industry is rapidly developing. Information on the different tracks can be found on our website. Speakers will be announced on Instagram (snic_creativit), but one of them is our keynote speaker Sam Aaron. During his talk "Code Like a DJ with Sonic PI" he will be live coding a show for us!

TL;DR Join us on the 29th of November in Utrecht for an inspiring and engaging conference featuring innovative talks about computer science and company contact; lunch, borrel and dinner included! For only €7,- you can join this event. This includes lunch, dinner and drinks during the day. Next to this, there is also a bus which will pick up and drop off everyone at the university. The ticket price has been reduced to give more people the ability to join the congress, however if you subscribe and do not show, you will have to pay the full ticket price of €20,-.

There are only 75 tickets available. If there are more subscriptions than tickets on Friday 20 October at 12.00, then there will be a draw among everyone who is subscribed at that moment. On the 24th of November, join GELIFT in an amazing picture scavenger hunt in and "around" Eindhoven. This afternoon, you will get a list of challenges to do and pictures to find and replicate. For everything you cross of your list, you can score points. Doing more difficult challenges, that are further away from the starting point, will of course score you more points!

Before we can do so, we first have to test your knowledge on the Carnaval tradition, which is why we will be holding the amazing Carnavals Pubquiz this year. We nodigen de zielen uit die net zo dom zijn als wij om deze uitdaging aan te gaan. Er zullen nieuwe en speciale lichteffecten zijn met dank aan AViCo en de ABC, er zullen biertjes zijn van de BAC, er zullen verliezers zijn, en er zullen winnaars zijn. Ga de uitdaging aan! Om 18:15 beginnen we onze uitdaging met de eerste run van 100 minuten. Na deze eerste strijd, zullen we een pauze hebben van ongeveer een uur om te genieten van eten van Snackcenter Eindhoven. Wanneer we al onze innerlijke kracht hebben teruggevonden, zullen we starten met de tweede run van 60 minuten. Omdat we ietwat aan de late kant beginnen, vragen we iedereen vriendelijk wat te eten/snacken voor de activiteit begint. Ook (zoals de activiteit al impliceert) verzoeken we iedereen geen alcohol te drinken voor de activiteit begint. Er zijn initieel 33 plekken beschikbaar, maar dit kan opgehoogd worden. Graph Theory for Fraud Detection at Booking.com - Rajat Saxena Conventional fraud detection has historically been centered around linear relationships between user indicators. The weak point of this setup is that we miss out on transitive relationships, which becomes an increasingly interesting factor when fraudsters reuse few overlapping indicators in new fraud attempts.In this presentation we will show how we developed an in-house technological ecosystem that stores fraud attempts in graph format and leveraged state of the art algorithms to compute innovative graph features that enriches our existing fraud controls (ML models and static rules). As is customary, the BAC will organize their infamous MAVO-borrel the last Thursday of the exam period. This means you can enjoy a wonderful social drink without care about your exams (hopefully). As is similarly a tradition, the board will provide some breakfast the morning after, whether you are hungover or not. Just drag yourself to the GEWIS room Friday morning, and you will be greeted with all the ingredients you need to get yourself fueled up that day.

Danielle is a Senior Software Engineer at Uber on the Ad Tech Team. Ad Tech supports Data Science and Marketing at Uber, providing tools and automation to make sure our millions of users across dozens of countries and products are reached in an efficient and relevant way. The team develops tools, automations, and pipelines for data science and marketing to help optimize Uber advertising, marketing, and experimentation. Danielle joined the team when it was newly started, and has seen it grow in scope, spend, and complexity. The talk will give an overview of the goals of the team, challenges, and use the Experimentation Platform as a case study on a few interesting technical problems and how Uber approaches them.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should join the Hactoberfest x ABC activity at GEWIS! Hactoberfest is a global event that celebrates open source software and encourages people to participate in it. The ABC is the committee that manages the software of GEWIS by developing and maintaining various applications and services. Together, we have prepared a special activity for GEWIS members, especially first-years, to get involved in open source and contribute to the projects that power GEWIS. For this activity we have several projects available with easier issues that will help you get acquainted with working on larger open source projects:

GEWIS.nl: should be self-explanatory but the GEWIS website is the go-to place for GEWIS members to read about activities, view photos, and be involved with the assocation. It is written in PHP and uses the Laminas Framework, for more information see the GitHub repository. GEWISDB: the decision and member database, you used this when you joined the association through join.gewis.nl! SudoSOS backend: you may be already be familiar with our bar system when you bought some food or drinks in the GEWIS room or at a social drink. SudoSOS frontend: the SudoSOS frontend is what you see when you go to sudosos.gewis.nl. It allows you to view your transactions and to top up your balance. Would you like to know how ING is implementing the International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) 9? Did you know that it relates to the recognition of an entity’s financial asset/liability in its financial statement and includes an expected credit loss (ECL) framework for recognizing impairment.

The quantification of ECL is often broken down into its three components, namely, - the probability of default (PD), - loss-given default (LGD), - and exposure at default (EAD).

The IFRS 9 standard requires that the ECL model accommodate the influence of the current and the forecasted macroeconomic conditions on credit loss. This enables a determination of forward-looking estimates on impairments.

During the lunch lecture, we will be discussing the approaches we use in the bank to incorporate the forward looking macro-economic information in the IFRS9 expected credit losses models.

On the 9th of October Défi will have their fourth dies! We are very excited to celebrate this event during our dies borrel on the 12th of October. Since we love to go out of our comfort zones, the borrel will have an out of the box dies theme, namely, REINCARNATION! Because what better time is there to think about death and afterlife than on your dies right? :p

We think birthdays are a time to celebrate life and the living. It is a time for festivity. However, such times may also be enhanced by taking a moment to think about what it means to live on. Therefore Défi would love to present you, the borrelaars, with things that might feel a little uncomfortable at first, but possess a certain beauty which can help appreciate life a little more. This leaves one with all the more reason to celebrate and cheer! This borrel will clearly not be any ordinary borrel, and therefore we have some fun extra's for you! Do you know the difference between a vulva and a vagina? How much do you know about the human reproductive system? And what can our bodies teach us about our understanding of sex? Join Défi's sex education journey centered around human genitals, presented by two sexology graduates! Not only will you follow an interactive lecture about various (underrepresented) aspects of sex education, we will put our newly gained knowledge in practice by claying vulva's and penises! Of course, you may also clay an erotic sculpture or anything else you wish to sculpt! Did we mention the activity is free???

Background:We all know what our genitals look like, and maybe some of us got to see others as well. But despite sex education being a part of most high school curricula, the general knowledge about our reproductive organs is often lacking. We’re confusing facts with tales, we only know the bare minimum of (heterosexual) intercourse and the anatomy of these organs is a question to most of us. But no worries, Défi has got you covered! Two sexologists will come to GEWIS to give you a crash course on human anatomy, specifically genitals and diversity of human bodies. We will be debunking myths and learning about our own bodies in the interactive session given by these two sexology graduates. But we wouldn’t be Défi, without there being a twist. So afterwards we will put the new learned theory to practice. Here you will get the chance yourself to clay and paint a penis or vagina or any other type of sexual anatomy. All whilst enjoying fun conversation starters, and having the opportunity to ask the sexologists every question you could dream to ask.

So do you want to know more about the human body? Are you curious about the anatomy of reproductive organs? Or do you like to be creative and sculp/paint your own sexual organ? UiPath is a leading Robotic Process Automation vendor providing a complete software platform to help organizations efficiently automate business processes. A core component of the UiPath platform is UiPath Process Mining, which helps to discover opportunities for process optimization and Robotic Process Automation through state of the art Process Mining techniques. Some of these state of the art techniques are explored, researched and prototyped through student graduation projects.

An example of such a project is “Visual Conformance Checking”. This technique compares process execution data to the process design, providing businesses with a process “as it runs” versus process “as intended” visual comparison. This conformance information can be leveraged to gain better insights and improve the process, such as through Robotic Process Automations.

In this lunch lecture, Dennis Brons will familiarize you with UiPath, Visual Conformance Checking and the graduation project options available.

When people become GEWIS members, they get the opportunity to receive a membership card. This card has your name and GEWIS number on it, and it can be used to join activities, and order drinks during a borrel (social drink). Because we don't want to print unnecessarily, you can sign up for this opt-in list if you want to receive such a membership card. This afternoon, we will be decorating cupcakes, which are home-baked by us, the members of GETAART. Every cupcake you decorate you get to keep and eat yourself! Hey first-year students! This meeting will mark the start of the new First Year Committees! To join an FYC, make sure to attend this meeting in Neuron 0.266. Every first-year student is welcome! In this meeting, you will form groups that become this year's FYCs, and there will be some time to brainstorm about your name (and theme if you want). Last week, there was an information meeting where I discussed what it means to be in an FYC, after which two FYCs from last year talked about their experiences. If you were not able to attend this meeting, you can almost always find me in the GEWIS room, or send me an email (cib@gewis.nl) and I will gladly talk to you about FYCs. In short An FYC is a committee that is made up of first-year students. This means that the workload will be low, since it is mostly aimed at getting to know each other and having fun! As a committee, you can set up an activity like a chess tournament, a movie night, or something completely different! Get creative with it! Besides this, you can earn FYC points by going to activities, joining our borrels (social drinks), passing courses, and much more! There will be something for the FYC with the most points. If you cannot join this meeting, but would like to, please reach out to me!

Good at mathematics? Or better at drinking? Prove it by joining the GEBEP Math & Beer Race! Earn as many points as possible before the time runs out by solving mathematical problems, doing drinking tasks, or by completing other challenges. Will your team end up on top and take home one of the prizes? (Note: you can participate without drinking alcohol and still obtain the maximum score.) In the weekend of 15-17 September the first GEWIS-weekend will take place: the one and only FLUP (Introduction Follow Up Weekend)! It will be a big party, but only for three days! The tradition of vivid discussions and talk about discoveries has been going on for centuries. Professors from all over the country would gather and talk about becoming the next best Plato, Aristotle, or Socrates. Only the highest of society would be part of these lively debates and could bring out the best and worst in the future historic celebrities. Even though the past is the past, people still look up to them for what they have accomplished.

As the fraternity "In Vino Veritas" we are full of accomplished members who once started in GEWIS. One of the many traditions we have set forth throughout the years was organizing the 'Maand'lijksche borrel' (Monthly Social Drink). I.V.V has always appreciated good conversation while being accompanied by a fine glass of wine and a fellow educated person with a fond appreciation of the Burgundian lifestyle. These 'Maand'lijksche borrels' are famously known throughout GEWIS and are some of the very first activities that I.V.V has organized.

Because I.V.V is such a big endorser of bringing the Burgundian lifestyle to GEWIS and likes to continue the tradition, a new 'Maand'lijksche borrel' will take place on the 8th of September! With this 'Maand'lijksche borrel' being the celebration of the new academic year and potency to enrich the minds of academic achievers, I.V.V will bring sparkling wine and a very appetizing appetizer menu to the social drink! So be sure to visit this social drink, starting at 17:00 in the GEWIS room, and enjoy the beverages and delicacies that I.V.V will bring to you! Be like the academia who went before and enjoy an exquisite glass or numerous glasses of wine during this event that everyone must join to experience the luxurious life every proper student deserves! Also, be sure to wear some nice attire so that you may live up to the standards of high society and shine further than the commoners.

After a hectic introduction week where you have (hopefully) made a lot of new friends it is time to really start your student life. And no student life without studying. However, you might already heard a lot of concepts you have never heard of, like "Canvas", "MyTimetable", "Plan App" or "Osiris". But don’t be afraid! There is no need to worry. Attending this training will teach you all the basics you need to know to survive all the software at the TU/e.

In case there are more then 100 people that want to attend, there will be a "first come, first serve" policy. In that case the remainder can view the session online.

Shubham Rawal will provide an interesting presentation on why he decided to go for the 2 year salaried post-master EngD Software Technology program for technological designers with TU/e, give some nice examples of multidisciplinary group training projects and also elaborate on his individual graduation project ‘Automated Transformation of Picture Archiving and Communication System Reporting Templates to HL7® FHIR® Models’ conducted at ROYAL PHILIPS . His thesis won the Software Technology Award 2023.

On Saturday September 2nd 2023, a group of international Erasmus exchange students will arrive on the TU/e campus to have an amazing introduction day! Those international students are staying here for at least half a year, but they have no knowledge about the Netherlands, Eindhoven, or this university. To help those students feel at home, we are organizing this introduction day!

Each buddy will get a small group of Erasmus students assigned to them to guide them during the day. Therefore, we are looking for you! On the 2nd of September you will meet your buddies in real life and you will guide them during the day. During this intro day, you will have the chance to get to know more people and make friends from all over the world. The intro day will be completely free for you and there will lots of fun activities. We won't spoil too much but there definitely will be a city tour and a pubquiz.

Please register below to get students assigned! Non-GEWIS members that study at the department of M&CS can also subscribe. Be fast, because there are only a limited number of spots. We hope to see you and your buddy this September.

Presenting, LaserTag in MetaForum (Floor 3 edition). Although very limited in expanding your knowledge of getting to know the layout of the building, it is still very cool to be able to LaserTag inside MetaForum! Even though we are in the middle of the summer break, we are also at the end of the interim exam period. This means that the BAC will organize one of their infamous MAVO borrels on Thursday.

And since we all know what comes after a MAVO borrel, the 42nd board will arrange a delicious hangover breakfast in the GEWIS room! There isn't an unlimited amount of hangover food, so be sure to be there on time!

Dear members, now that the exam week is finally over, we are all enjoying our summer vacation and looking forward to all the activities we planned to do. We guess that you are doing the same. While some days might be filled with a nice festival, a vacation far away, or other fun plans. There will also be some days that are still completely empty. If you're still in doubt whether you want to get some well-deserved rest or whether you want to get the most out of your summer break by planning even more activities, Défi is here to make that decision a little easier for you. On Saturday the 5th of August, we will go see the Canal Parade in Amsterdam! The Canal Parade will start at 12:00 from the Scheepvaart, so we will gather around 11:30 at Amsterdam Central Station. The exact details will be communicated to all participants later on. The Canal Parade will end at approximately 18:00. However most streetparties have already started at 16:00 and the main party starts already at 14:00! So we will check some of those as well. Note that if you want to arrive later or leave earlier, that is fine as well! So if you are straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, curious, asexual, pansexual, gender-non-conforming, gender-fluid, non-binary, androgynous, all of the above or nothing from above, make sure that you subscribe!! The festival itself will be completely free of charge. Défi will bring some rainbow decorations, to make sure you are all decorated for the occasion. But it would still be nice to bring your most colorful clothes. Défi will also bring some snacks for everyone! Do note that drinks should be bought by yourself and make sure to buy enough for the whole day in advance. As it is hard to leave the Parade to buy additional drinks. Also note that while the festival is free of charge, you have to pay (and arrange it yourself) for your travel to and from Amsterdam. However, you can get a group retour for a minimum of 7,15 a person*. So if you are interested in joining with this group deal, you can subscribe with that information and you can form groups yourself to buy this group retour. After a year of studying and telling your parents how much you loved your time here, especially the BAC borrels, it is time to let your parents experience the same. On the 13th of July, the BAC will organize the 'Os pa en ma borrel', which is Brabants for 'Dad and mom borrel'. As the name explains, you can bring your parents to enjoy a nice cold Grolsch (or a cold soda!) together with your fellow studymates. Next to that, the BAC will make sure there is some food that your parents can prepare, just like they do at home for you. So invite your parents and have a beer with them!

As after 3 long years of waiting, the Fraternity "In Vino Veritas" will once again host the legendary "Spel met Ballen" and naturally while you are playing, we at "In Vino Veritas" will make sure that you are never short on wine and delicacies.

Op 6 juli vindt de constitutieborrel van het 42ste bestuur van GEWIS plaats! Tijdens deze borrel komen veel andere verenigingen, het faculteitsbestuur, de familie van het bestuur, GEWIS organen en leden het bestuur feliciteren. We vieren hun installatie met een avond vol met gezelligheid, gratis bier en goede herinneringen.

Voor de constitutieborrel hebben we veel vrijwilligers nodig. We moeten de hele ruimte leeghalen, het bestuur en het gastenboek beschermen en het bestuur naar huis brengen. We horen graag of je beschikbaar bent voor die dag om één van deze taken te doen. Let op: als je het bestuur naar huis moet brengen, moet je nuchter blijven om te kunnen rijden. Als je beschikbaar bent, vul alsjeblieft dit formulier in.

De verplichte infomeeting, waarop alles wordt uitgelegd over de ordecommissie, vindt plaats op donderdag 22 juni van 12:40 tot 13:20. De locatie wordt later bekend gemaakt.

Voor niet-vrijwilligers begint de borrel rond 19:00 (het interne deel).

Every year, the introduction committee needs intro parents to house all new students. In this form, you will be able to subscribe to the introduction week as a introduction parent. The introduction week is from 21/08/2023 until 25/08/2023. This means that you HAVE to be available during those times. Next to that, there will also be a training day during the holidays where you need to be present. This day is on the Saturday before the intro week, so 19/08/2023. If you are currently studying, you can be an intro parent! You don't need to be a GEWIS member. If you are not able to find a fellow intro parent, no need to worry! You can subscribe now on your own and we can find you a partner! Take note, this year we are using a different selection from last year. Make sure you include why you want to become an intro parent as well as why you think you would be a good intro parent, as this is one of the criteria we will be using.
