Ben je het zat om de geweldigheid van GEWIS borrels aan je familieleden uit te leggen? Zoek niet verder, want op woensdag 8 mei organiseert de BAC een GESCHWISTER borrrrel! Breng je broers, zussen, neven, nichten en alles daartussenin mee naar de borrel en laat hen de magie van koud getapt bier, broodjes knak en shots ervaren!

Maar waarom genoegen nemen met een simpele uitnodiging als je het extra speciaal kunt maken? Van dinsdag 26 maart tot dinsdag 23 april kun je een gratis papieren uitnodiging in de vorm van een ansichtkaart naar je broers en zussen sturen en hen laten weten hoeveel plezier ze gaan hebben! Schrijf ze eenvoudig en post ze in GEWIS.

Dus zet het in je agenda en nodig je GESCHWISTER uit voor het feest van de maand. We kunnen niet wachten om jullie allemaal op de 8e te zien!

Tijdens de Ouderdagen kunnen ouders (of vrienden en familie) van eerstejaars en\of internationale studenten een dag vol colleges en TU/e ervaren. Professors, afgestudeerden en de Ouderdag Commissie zullen aan het woord komen en zorgen dat je ouders leuk kunnen kennismaken met je studie. De dag bestaat onder andere uit een campus tour, colleges, instructies en een gezellige borrel achteraf. Er zullen gratis lunch en drankjes aanwezig zijn.

Ben je ook bang om getroffen te worden door de giek? Kom naar het GEZWEM Zeilweekend en overwin je angsten!

In het weekend van 17 t/m 19 mei bevaren wij de tropische wateren van het Sneekermeer in Fryslân. Houd je van een gezellie weekend vol zeilen ⛵ met meer rum en bier🍻 dan het grootste oorlogsschip kan bevatten, meld je dan nu aan voor het GEZWEM zeilweekend!

Voor slechts 55 dukaten of 45 voor eerstejaars en 103 voor niet-leden (we accepteren ook euro's💸) regelen wij een polyvalk voor jou en je vrienden, een kampeerplek (zelf een tent⛺ meenemen of deel er een met vrienden), eten en drinken! Kom mee met het geweldige weekend en breng overdag de wateren van Fryslân, en 's nachts in de bruinste kroegen, in gevaar. Zeilervaring is niet nodig!

Schrijf je dus nu in met je beste vrienden en leer hoe je ze kunt kielhalen! Er zijn maar 24 plekken beschikbaar dus meld je nu aan!

The CPPS track of the Honors Academy and GEHACK present to you – Heuristic Optimization Contest (Ad HOC), a brand-new exciting opportunity for you to show-off your coding and problem-solving skills. This unique challenge is organized for the first time, and we are very excited to see how you – our honored contenders will tackle it! Bring a few laptops, up to three of your most trusted advisors (teammates) and your sharp brains to the battlefield and face the competition! And in return we will provide FREE lunch and snacks during the contest and a small social drink after everything is over and the dust has settled. Then we will also reveal who proved to be the fiercest challenger and award them handsomely! We will of course also show off our own solutions and techniques.

Unlike other programming contests you are already familiar with like EAPC, BAPC, and FYPC, which reward contestants for their speedy implementation and clever tricks, Ad HOC rewards solutions which balance accuracy and running time. You will be presented with one (yes only one) problem, and you will have 4 hours to battle 5 instances of it. The problem is a real-life task that people (even within our department!) get to tackle every year (admittedly, on a smaller scale). However, something is not as it seems... The problem is unsolvable (in any reasonable time)! So, then the best you can do is try to get veeeery close to a solution! The closer you get, the more points you will score and at the end – the team with the most points wins! To put it simply, there isn’t just one “best” solution, instead you can score points with almost any solution you think of. However, some perform better than others and will bring more points!  

Finally, you are free to use ANY open-source software, tools, libraries, programming languages, etc. Just like in a war, anything goes. Well, our form of the Geneva convention applies, and you are not allowed to use paid services – like cloud computing or supercomputing power (basically no nukes).

Every year our sister association, W.S.G. Abacus, creates a puzzle booklet for their members. This year they want to expand to all of WISO and they have asked us if members are interested.

We, the board, see many of you enthousiastic members making the Sudoku or the Crossword puzzle each day. So, we know some of you are very excited for this. They do have one request, that we also send them a couple of puzzles for this booklet. 

If you are interested in receiving a WISO puzzle booklet please subcribe to the sign up list below. If you are interested in making a puzzle please send a mail to board@gewis.nl and we will send you the puzzle booklet (as pdf) from last year. The puzzles have to be send to the board on the 5th of May at the latest.

We all know what fire is. We have felt it up close and seen it in various sizes, from small to large. It can be nice and cozy when it's in a campfire, and we sit around it, but it can also be destructive, destroying everything in its path. Around 2 million years ago, humans started to use fire to our advantage. Over all these years, we have mastered the use of fire and controlled it to our benefit, leading us to where we are now. Even with the technology we have today, we still cannot control fire everywhere.

Almost everyone has seen fire breathers at festivals or in a circus, and it looks absolutely spectacular. Have you ever thought, 'I can do that?' Or maybe, 'I would like to learn that as well so I look super cool for my family and friends?' This is a unique chance to try it in a controlled environment. If you join us in this activity, it's your time to shine and breathe fire.

We have arranged for a professional trainer who is specialized in fire breathing. He will join us and explain everything you want to know about fire breathing. First, he will give an introductory course on all there is to know about fire breathing. After this, we will do some exercises to learn how to properly breathe fire. And finally, we will, of course, go outside and put into practice what we have learned. The entire instruction, including the fire breathing itself, will take between 3 to 4 hours. If you subscribe, you need to be present for the entire activity.

There are 30 spots excluding burgers! In case there are more subscriptions it is first come first serve.

Are you also looking forward to better and sunnier weather in coming spring? What better way to start off spring by running the most fun relay race of them all, the Batavierenrace! In the weekend of the 24th till the 26th of May, we from GEWIS will once again travel to Nijmegen to run together a distance of 175km to Enschede, divided into 25 parts, running during the night, in the morning and in the afternoon.

Like last year, we are running with two teams, so make sure to subscribe soon to not only run with us but enjoy the biggest student party in Europe on Saturday! If there are not enough subscriptions we will join with one team. In case of too many subscriptions, there will be a draw. We will sleep in our own tents on the campus of Twente University and every time a new team will go to their starting point to take over the responsibility of the prior team to run GEWIS to the finish. Hopefully, you're looking forward to this relay race just as much as we do (or even more of course)!

Enjoy a full day of lectures, business cases and panel discussions. Paired with a networking market, free lunch and a great outside social drink, you can enjoy speeddates with companies and get acquainted with EngD's and academic speakers.

Are you excited to spend your weekend in lovely nature and not afraid to engage in some adventurous activities, or just looking for a place to enjoy a cozy campfire all night long, or are you in for both? Then get ready for the B.O.O.M. Active Weekend of 2024!

This year, we will visit the Nonceveux in the Belgian Ardennes. Here we have arranged some great activities for you, both on the Saturday and Sunday. We won’t spoil them yet, but examples from previous years are climbing, traversing a trail between treetops and canoeing. Next to this, there is more to enjoy during the weekend, you can “stream” in the river at the campsite (ask B.O.O.M. members for details) and in the evening there will be a campfire to keep you warm. Since we are on a campsite, we will sleep in cozy tents.

You don’t have to bring/buy your own food or drinks as this is all inclusive during the weekend! On Friday you have the opportunity to taste Sako’s famous pasta salad, and on Saterday you can enjoy a nice BBQ. Next to that, we will arrange a sufficient supply of beers and soda (and coffee for the tough mornings, don’t worry).

The weekend will take place from 7th till 9th of June 2024. If you want to join please subscribe below. As we need enough cars to drive everyone to Belgium, people with a car available wil be given priority if necessary. If you have a car available, please indicate this and mention how many places (including yourself) you have in the car. We would also like to know if you have a tent and how many people could fit in it. We will not make tent groups but this might give other people some help in asking around to find a place to sleep :)

We are planning on taking 50 persons to our awesome weekend, so subscribe as soon as possible! When there is a lot of interest, we may be able to scale up, but we cannot promise anything yet!

Na bijna een jaar lang studeren en tegen je ouders vertellen hoe leuk het hier was (en dan in het bijzonder de donderdagborrels), is het tijd om je ouders dezelfde ervaring te geven! Op donderdag 13 juni organiseert de BAC weer de 'Os Pa en Ma borrel'! Zoals de naam al suggereert, mag je je ouders meenemen naar de borrel om te genieten van een heerlijk koud Grolschje (of een koude cola!) samen met je studiegenoten. Dus nodig je ouders uit en kom een biertje met ze drinken!

We are the organisers of the DET day 2024. This is a day when mathematics and computer science students from Delft, Eindhoven and Twente spend the day together with all kinds of fun activities. This year the DET day will be held on the University of Twente. The DET day takes place on June 20 and starts at 11:00 on the UT campus with a delicious ‘kroketten’ lunch! The whole day is meant to get to know each other and the campus. Lunch and dinner are arranged by us. The day ends with a drink and, of course, a party! There is also an option to stay overnight, after which we will provide a delicious breakfast. 

The prices shown are an upper bound and will most likely be a bit lower. We think it would be amazing for you to be there. Hopefully, we will see you soon!

P.S: Train tickets have to be bought by yourself if you have weekend-OV, but if enough people join, you can band together to buy group tickets.
